I find the thought of Hank calling John and excitedly telling him about his 2D glasses idea and asking for an investment just for John to respond with "Go suck it", to be very hilarious.
I had a project in high school for health class where I had to take an electronic baby home from school for several days. It had keys that were labeled various things like "feed" "show attention" "clean diaper" etc. It would record any neglect and would begin crying at all hours of the day or night. Even would record if anyone hit or abused the baby. I always felt more teenagers needed a project like this. Having an app for it could really be beneficial for health teachers. You're on to something.
There's a class you can take like this in Australia too but it's for an early development class that very few people take - probably 10-15 people out of 250. Only thing is that it wasn't an electronic baby with keys, it was a life-sized baby doll like a Baby Born that came with a bottle and a diaper. I don't know how it was recorded or anything but you'd have to treat it like a real baby (feeding, diaper changes, rocking it to sleep) etc. and sometimes it would just cry for no reason no matter what you did and you'd just have to deal with it. I think all teenagers should have to do this but I don't think it will ever happen.
IIRC one of the problems with those dolls in health classes is they actually caused some teenagers to _want_ to have a baby. That's generally the opposite of what the curriculum was meant to achieve. While most teenagers do struggle with the noise or the responsibility, there will be a percentage who want to feel needed. Emotional neglect in their own childhood can cause a few problems, one of them being they fixate on the idea of becoming the parent they never had. Similarly, the "just say no to drugs" or DARE campaigns tended to not work. It simply taught children about the wide variety of illegal substances in the world and implied people they know may already be using, or enjoying, them. It focused on fear, not recovery, and so like the sex education, tended to emotionally manipulate the most vulnerable children in unexpected ways.
You are a great dad! I can just tell. As a father of three, one almost seven and two three year olds. Being a full time dad is so much work but so rewarding! Its fun seeing you be so real, get some sleep.... you know whenever
I love this video because it so perfectly sums up what it is like to have a toddler and a newborn. Mine are both in college but I still remember the exhaustion.
I disagree with you about your lack of million dollar ideas. A large percentage of what you say is priceless. Your brain just oozes million dollar ideas in mass amount in form of brilliant books.
I almost started to cry because you are such a successful author and I just want to be as successful as you. I am almost done with my first draft of the book I plan on getting published. Just...wanna be successful in the new world.
At the time when you wrote this comment, John green was struggling to write his new book - ua-cam.com/video/MiX7fVkTbzM/v-deo.html I hope you got your book published, and DFTBA!
+agentrikamcgee || Yeah, I always thought that the original Tamagotchis weren't annoying enough. We need to make a crying baby version of them. That's a good idea, that will improve the world.
I think he is a millionaire but probably meant that not one singular idea made a million (but all the ideas and their variety of projects *combined* made him wealthy)
I had four kids down with strep this past April. 10, 7, 3 and 18 months. Then two got a reaction from their meds halfway through. I feel yours and the Yeti's pain.
My million-dollar ideas are generally songs. My song is an idea, and I hope to make a million dollars on some of them so I can live with my future family comfortably.
John Green ***** A bad idea...? This is pure gold. Think Teen Mom and teen pregnancy. Ok? See how many of those teen pregnancy shows are 50% a teen (lone or couple) being told by their parents they don't havr what it takes and them say yes they do.... See where I'm going?
call MTV, Spike or whatever tv channel big about reality tv. Have an outrageous show with teens who think they can pull it off. THEN hide some geek knowledge in it or come up with a way to make people leave this show MORE AWESOME.
The only problem with this app idea is that it will go off during school, or force me to turn my phone all the way off, which is a pain and I'm never going to do that. If it happens in english class I can just blame you and probably get away with it because my teacher loves you. Other than that I'm just going to get my phone taken away and get in a lot of trouble.
Rose; I'm also not John. But, I am going to be a junior in a month, and I can tell you that high school's probably going to suck, quite a bit. But you'll make amazing friends, do amazing things, and as long as you keep focused and don't let anyone pull you down or tell you that you aren't awesome; everything will work out in the end.
Thank the Lord I saw this comment and decided to click on your channel and watch your video. YOU ARE HILARIOUS AND A NERDFIGHTER WHICH MEANS I LOVE YOU. Another new vlogger to obsess over.
I still can't get over this. John, Vlogbrothers was YOUR idea. Tifios is YOUR book and movie. Both of these things have made over a million dollars and have made room for Hank to have all of his ideas. None of this would exist without you.
Achh! Dang. Missed you guys again. Next time either of you is in town, we would love to take you out geocaching! I really think it's something you would love; especially you, John, with your love of hikes and the outdoors and stuff. You go out searching for little treasures people left. We're doing a UA-cam show on it, and we'd love to have you along. Please join us next time you're in the LA area!!!
HAHAHA John is definitely still suffering from lack of sleep, especially from the ramblings on being awesome at the end, good luck John, hopefully the new addition sleeps more soon!
Completely random but I just watched you and Hank's Pottercast interview and I am so happy that you chose your favourite book as Deathly Hallows and favourite character as Harry Potter. They're also my favourites in their categories (with Dumbledore as another favourite character) and believe Harry is was too underrated which makes me upset. Anyway, great video :)
I would say read Looking for Alaska first and then The Fault in our Stars, saving the best for last. Looking for Alaska is an amazing novel, however, The Fault in our Stars is number one in my heart.
More advice to add to Maggie Aungst's great list from someone entering their last year of high school. Be apart of the school. Join clubs, volunteer, participate in events and spirit days, and maybe cheer on the home team every once and awhile. It is an opportunity for you to be apart of something bigger than just go to school, learn, graduate. It will give you the chance to be apart of a community, to meet new people, make memories, support others, and to grow as a person :)Make the most of it!
It's DFTBA when someone's going through a rough patch and they need to be reminded and then TYFBA for when they did something awesome and you're thanking them for it! :) I use both very frequently.
I feel your pain, John. Our girl is 6 weeks old and had one of those binge-crying sessions, much like our Netflix watching, but much less satisfying. Oh, and we don't watch Netflix at 4am normally...
My high school did something very similar. We were given a life size and weight plastic baby that we had to carry around in a car seat for a week. It had a simple computer in it that caused it to start blasting crying noises randomly. You were given a set of keys labeled feed, change diaper, etc and had to try to figure out which would stop it. The computer also had an anti tamper sensor so the teacher knew if you did anything that could have hurt your baby. Like rip its battery out or drop it.
I'm sorry you and the Yeti are so sleep deprived. I hope you can get some sleep soon. Also it's not a super terrible idea. They have a doll that does the same thing as part of some high school courses, or as a deterrent for teen girls who are trying to get pregnant because they think babies are cute but don't know the demands and stresses of raising a human child are. Thank you for continuing to be awesome!
Thank you so much for your support! Where do you go to school? If you are in the Northeast you might even be able to come and see it (if we can get this whole project approved, that is).
Hey John! I just wanted to apologize for meeting you at vidcon and bursting into tears.. I felt really embarrassed afterwards, and I'm sure it must have made you uncomfortable, it's just that your work has changed my life in so many positive ways, and I was trying to thank you for that. DFTBA -Jade

Thanks John for the vidcon shout out..wow that was a surprise and in time I will return the fav..... I had spies at vidcon who woke me in the middle of the night to tell me the good news. Remember I live a long way away! Best way to control the phone baby is let it watch a whole bunch of kids videos on the tube...problem solved and you can get on with your life. Click happy kids I call it....if your phone has arms....maybe thats another million dollar idea for you.
Hankgames x2 sounds like an amazing idea!! Mostly just fun to laugh at, but that's part of what it is now! An do try your best to sleep, John. I hope Alice is doing well and Henry gets well soon. DFTBA.
Totally Love this idea!!! I had the baby class, and I passed with an A- despite the death threats of throwing it out the window of a moving car and seconds before it was scheduled to shut down my little cousins snuck into the room and dropped it on it's shoulder. Hence the A-
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Hank asked to borrow a thousand bucks for 2D glasses from you, you said no and now he's the sole owner of the company? That just made me grin so hard, thanks. :D No wonder you always mention its success with that sort of grudging admiration. :'D Kinda reminds me of how my grandma always said we can either share the money for a lottery scratch ticket or the winner gets to keep all the money. "I call everyone daddy!...but you're like actually a dad.."
Hank games times two is THE BEST IDEA
He did it with Pikmin.
And it was the greatest thing ever and it needs to keep happening. Even better, John should play some games at times two.
+Joy Baker Yes, I would love to here what AFC Wimbledon would look like at twice the speed.
You are a great dad! I can just tell. As a father of three, one almost seven and two three year olds. Being a full time dad is so much work but so rewarding! Its fun seeing you be so real, get some sleep.... you know whenever
Did anyone else feel extremely tortured by the crying?
yes. yes indeed.
So ... you download it to your teenage-kids phone hoping it makes them use condoms?
this IS a million dollar idea
Best way to reduce teen moms.
Or you basically make the app a virus and people have to pay you to get rid of it
I love this video because it so perfectly sums up what it is like to have a toddler and a newborn. Mine are both in college but I still remember the exhaustion.
I disagree with you about your lack of million dollar ideas. A large percentage of what you say is priceless. Your brain just oozes million dollar ideas in mass amount in form of brilliant books.
The sweet sweet scenery of John's book hutch and his green walls-it is so good to see you!
I almost started to cry because you are such a successful author and I just want to be as successful as you. I am almost done with my first draft of the book I plan on getting published. Just...wanna be successful in the new world.
At the time when you wrote this comment, John green was struggling to write his new book - ua-cam.com/video/MiX7fVkTbzM/v-deo.html
I hope you got your book published, and DFTBA!
One of the more clever ways to be passive aggressive about parenthood. I dig it.
He seems so stressed and I don't know why I find it amusing 😂😂
John I'm glad you are back :) we all missed you very very much. Good luck with you're baby and thank god for coffee
I missed you allot John, and you sound like a great father
So... it's basically a Tamagotchi ...without all the meters that tell you what it actually needs... on your phone?
+agentrikamcgee || Yeah, I always thought that the original Tamagotchis weren't annoying enough. We need to make a crying baby version of them. That's a good idea, that will improve the world.
Hannah, grace, mamrie and tyler are adorable, so are jack and finn.
how is John not already a millionaire i mean with the success of The fault in our stars and everything
Shovel Knight he is... keep shovelin
+Shovel Knight He is a millionaire several times over!
I think he is a millionaire but probably meant that not one singular idea made a million (but all the ideas and their variety of projects *combined* made him wealthy)
Sarah Kamil so John only made a million extra out of his books?
The fault in our stars, is a terrible book to listen to at work.. i couldn't stop tearing up.. But thank you john and Kate.
I had four kids down with strep this past April. 10, 7, 3 and 18 months. Then two got a reaction from their meds halfway through. I feel yours and the Yeti's pain.
Well you did come up with Vlogbrothers!
My million-dollar ideas are generally songs. My song is an idea, and I hope to make a million dollars on some of them so I can live with my future family comfortably.

Market this idea as an App/educational etc.. $$$ cash it for the foundation, for scholarships etc.
Mind-numbing things have a monopoly of the money making and air to the masses. Let's fight bacn!
your and Hank's adoration of Jack and Finn makes my day.
THIS IS PERRRFFFFFF. John you never cease to amaze me.
Hank Games x2 works super well with Pikmin 3!
I couldn't focus on anything in this video ecept how much he wouldn't show up in front of a green screen.
tomagochi?
As much as I have enjoyed your John-subs, I have missed you John!!
I literally just screamed and giggled at the same time when the video ended. I MISSED YOU.
"Who the eff is Hank?!?"
-The Game Theorists
lol..... IM HANK....sorta... my name is Hank...get it?..... I use a lot of dots
This is a painfully neon green shirt. Great video though :-)
The Green Brothers, you are both so incredibly awesome! Thank you John for every video you've post. All Non-stop awesome. tHankuHANK too wat
Rose; I'm also not John. But, I am going to be a junior in a month, and I can tell you that high school's probably going to suck, quite a bit. Sorry John, Tamagotchi already exists. You need to try harder to be as awesome as Hank :P
Thank the Lord I saw this comment and decided to click on your channel and watch your video. YOU ARE HILARIOUS AND A NERDFIGHTER WHICH MEANS I LOVE YOU. Another new vlogger to obsess over.
Wait no! Hank games times two seems brilliant! The CLOP video sped up made me laugh harder than anything I've seen in a long time.
"And I told him to suck it." My favorite part of that video. Oh I love John.
This is a great birth control reminder
Kinkajous are also pollinating mammals. Pretty cool!
I really wonder who dislikes this kind of videos. It's mind boggling : both the power of John's idea and the disliker's mind.
I am an undergrad in theatre too...and this is a fantastic idea!!! I love it!
I still can't get over this. John, Vlogbrothers was YOUR idea. Tifios is YOUR book and movie. Both of these things have made over a million dollars and have made room for Hank to have all of his ideas. None of this would exist without you.
fantastic.
i've known about this stuff for several months (maybe even close to a year?) and i still haven't seen every vid.
well done!
I love it. John Green is back and as awesome as ever. :) But far more tired!
Matching your shirt to your wristband. Love it!
John .........you ....are AWESOME !!!!!!!!!
Achh! Dang. Missed you guys again. Next time either of you is in town, we would love to take you out geocaching! Small, adorable and seemingly nocturnal....class.
John you're a freaking writer every idea and plot you get for a book is a million dollar idea.
WAIT. HANK GAMES TIMES TWO SOUNDS AMAZING. I NEED THIS. I WOULD TOTALLY WATCH THAT.
We've seen one! Hank played Clop and double speed. It was pretty freaking excellent.
HAHAHA John is definitely still suffering from lack of sleep, especially from the ramblings on being awesome at the end, good luck John, hopefully the new addition sleeps more soon!
Yep. He's kind of amazing like that.
I missed you so much, John.

Genius! You sir have just solved the main problem. Well done in your awesomeness. :)
I love your shot of Jack and Finn

How did I not know about the 2-D glasses?! Definitely getting a pair for my mother.
The fact that all your Vidcon footage contains Hannah Hart in some way is amazing.
It's DFTBA when someone's going through a rough patch and they need to be reminded and then TYFBA for when they did something awesome and you're thanking them for it! :) I use both very frequently.
thank you john for making a video even though you're tired ^__^
I feel your pain, John. Our girl is 6 weeks old and had one of those binge-crying sessions, much like our Netflix watching, but much less satisfying. Oh, and we don't watch Netflix at 4am normally...
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your work, but unfortunately my local library only has a few copies so I probably have to wait a while.

Thank you so much for your support! Where do you go to school? If you are in the Northeast you might even be able to come and see it (if we can get this whole project approved, that is).
I now understand all the in jokes and I'm all prepared to see Hank perform at Summer in the City next weekend :D x
My bundle of joy is due in a couple of weeks. Stop scaring me John.
Yes, he has! As a matter of fact, it was John's recommendation through tumblr that introduced me to The Johns Green. :)
Sweeeet! Thanks. Ever since I got bifocal contacts, I cannot focus at all on 3D. This means I can go to the movies with the kids again! Hooray!!! :)
Kinkajou's are SO CUTE!
I love this video the most.
I just fangirl when John acknowledges youtubers
You guys make my day!
Yes! Finally caught up! I have now seen all of the videos! :D
Hey John! I just wanted to apologize for meeting you at vidcon and bursting into tears.. I felt really embarrassed afterwards, and I'm sure it must have made you uncomfortable, it's just that your work has changed my life in so many positive ways, and I was trying to thank you for that. DFTBA -Jade
John has had at least one million dollar idea, and it is on my bookshelf.
oh god, i really love him... he also can really write.
THIS IS A GENIUS IDEA
and they should make a PSA commercial to go with it.
I don't really have advice, but I do have a list based on mistakes I made in high school!
1. The way you get people to like you is by talking to them.
2. Don't reject possible friends because you fear they aren't "cool" enough.
3. Your PE teacher probably doesn't hate you, just wants you to try to play sports cause getting you to do that is kind of their job.
4. Don't freak out about your GPA/the SATs/community service/having lots of extracurriculars. Awesome colleges don't care.
.... When a vlogbrother vid comes out on your bday it makes your bday 1000x awesomer :3
Oh my gosh, someone else knows what a kinkajou is! It's my favorite animal and everyone thinks I'm just making something up when I mention it.
Hankgames x2 sounds like an amazing idea!! Mostly just fun to laugh at, but that's part of what it is now! An do try your best to sleep, John. I hope Alice is doing well and Henry gets well soon. DFTBA.
You are brilliant because of your books
I really like your idea !!
That was actually a pretty good idea of hanks, my favourite hankgames video is the one that is sped up, with the unicorn!
CLOP x2 is an AWESOME idea! Many Nerdfighters cannot stop laughing!
Kinda reminds me of how my grandma always said we can either share the money for a lottery scratch ticket or the winner gets to keep all the money. Tough decisions, tough decisions...:D
John, I met my first IRL Nerdfighter at a party on monday and IT WAS AWESOME!!!
I really like this idea. Like a lot.
Hello! I'm going to be a Junior myself next year, but I can still give the same advice I gave to incoming freshmen last year right?
1) DO YOUR HOMEWORK! It may not have been that important in middle school, but homework (at least in my experience) is very important in high school
2) Be a nice person. It may seem like a lot of people are jerks at school, especially if you go to one with a lot of people. But new friends are all around you just waiting for you to meet them :D
3) DFTBA of course
I intern at a company that makes apps, and there are definitely some technical hurdles to implementing the app you describe- we tried to make a contacts management app, but ran into difficulties because iOS is kind of a control freak, and makes it very difficult if not impossible to have an app running in the background that steps forward on cue and overrides other phone functions- iOS says it's the boss, and apps get use of the phone's hardware at its discretion.
:D Thanks, man. The last one especially rings true to me.
