    Have any particular triumphs squeezing a project out of less fabric than was required?? I want to hear about it! It's one of my favorite things to try to do. 😁

    I love this kind of challenge: not enough fabric! For your drawstring, you could use a scrap fabric inside the casing so nobody knows.
    Very nice blouse!

      Thank you! Yeah that would be really cute, maybe even the view with the standup collar as a contrast too. I love introducing a new pattern that I like into the rotation for future tinkering!

    Oh man. I also have the spoonflower cotton lawn. Good to know these tips. I would have hated seeing those pinholes on my planned project...and it uses a lot of basting.

      I guess you could always do topstitching as a decorative thing which would hide the pinholes and hold the facing down? @tashacouldmakethat

    I, too, make the 'snip-snip' motion when looking for my scissors (I also add sound effects!). I do the same thing in the kitchen when going through my utensil drawers looking for a specific tool...I do believe that muscle memory plus eyesight helps me find the tool quicker. Or, I could just be kidding myself...lol.

    Hey, sometimes you just gotta fake it until you make it, lol! As long as you got a pretty blouse in the end, it was a success. I just had an issue with a Spoonflower fabric that was printed off grain. I didn't notice it until I started trying to cut it up for quilt squares, and I noticed it was quite a bit off from the directional print. I'm not sure I'll trust them again, considering the price. The fabric itself was nice, but this is why I hate buying online where I can't be all touchy-feely with the fabric!

    • @tashacouldmakethat
      @tashacouldmakethat  7 місяців тому +1

      That's a bummer about the off-grain print! I also noticed the price per yard went up significantly since I last purchased, and I never buy it unless there's a sale, so we'll see if I end up buying any in the future.

    Ha ha. Just finishing a project like that now. I had some fabric left over and thought I could squeeze a raglan t-shirt out of it. The fabric seemed stretchy to me so I didn't leave much ease. When I tried it on, it was too tight. I had to cut out a panel for the back and panels for under the arms from the t-shirt scraps. Then I top stiched all the new seams to make a design feature. Instead of a plain old t-shirt, I have a lovely designer one that makes me smile.

    If you move the two pieces near you up closer to the upper two pieces so bottoms are real close to each other (hem to hem), you have enough room to cut out the drawstring along the end of the fabric nearest you. Or, cut bias strips at upper corners away from you. In fact you can cut and piece from only o e corner. I do a lot of dresses for charity and bind the necks. I have made many neck bindings from a very small squarish piece of remnant by piecing. No one notices that they are pieced because they are on the bias.

  • @SherBear88
    @SherBear88 7 місяців тому +3

    You totally had me screaming at the TV screen because it’s very obvious that your drawstring will fit at the bottom of the fabric where you put the facings the drawstring pattern piece will fit right there! I absolutely love the top and love that fabric! I am fairly new to your channel and I am absolutely loving your videos!

    • @tashacouldmakethat
      @tashacouldmakethat  7 місяців тому +1

      Not on the bias it wouldn't have fit there, and I opted to cut it on the bias like the pattern recommended vs. the straight grain. It was close to squeezing in between the back piece and the front though.

    • @petapendlebury9024
      @petapendlebury9024 5 місяців тому +1

      ,@@tashacouldmakethatnow you've made it do you have a drawstring preference? Bias or straight grain? I love the 50s patterns artwork ❤

    • @tashacouldmakethat
      @tashacouldmakethat  5 місяців тому

      @@petapendlebury9024 honestly I can't say that I find either of them to be particularly better, so in the interest of saving fabric if I needed to, I'd probably just do it on the straight grain next time. I think it would be more important if it was a fitted style perhaps and you'd need some give in the drawstring.

    I love those colours on you. Cute top. I always learn something new watching your videos. I’ve been rewatching the pedal pushers video for how you do the waistband and the zip. That was a great three tips for one video! You could separate them out as “shorts” I would love to see how you handle the finish on the inside of the all in one sleeve curve. I made a Christmas dress that was a pop over all in one sleeve (is it called a dolman? ). The clipping required was something else! It’s not very pretty and a pain to press. How do you deal with that?

    Such a good blouse and love the tie at the bottom. Did you do a toile for this or was this a pattern you had already done? Or just decided to go for it, since it was a loose fit? There is always a great debate for me on making a muslin or toile, so would love to hear about your process for this at some point!

    • @tashacouldmakethat

It's a button up shirt, but my full bust is 38, but I am a sewing size c cup, so I was wondering if I put a FBA into my traced pattern would that get me close? I assume they are sized for a B cup,
    Any help would be appreciated

So I typically seek out vintage patterns that are a 32 bust. You didn't mention the size of the pattern you have but when in doubt it's worth doing a muslin of the bodice to be sure.
