    Which is your favorite of the coats I made? I don’t think I can pick one! And is it wrong that making this video made me want to sew another coat?! Ughhh. 😂 (p.s. I forgot to show that I made the button for the green coat too. 😜)

      Wow, just wow thank you, this video is so inspiring.Would you consider a button replication demonstration video? Also, I have been looking for the pattern for the first coat/jacket since I passed one up on ebay years ago. Fantastic shade of yellow and great lining on that first coat and great style!

      Oh-oh-oh - suggestion for tutorials _{just imagine me nerding out at the back of the class, hand stuck straight up into the air.}_
      - Bound Buttonholes (ie, I get what's going on for the front of the coat... _I think_ - but how do you get the back/facing side to look That good?),
      - I heard you say you added an extra lining? Lambswool and Thinsulate - combined... Hi, Canadian. How do you do that (so I could reverse engineer my present coat).
      - How do you make a casting of a vintage button and how do you make (& colour) the replicas?
      - Did you do pad stitching on the collars? If not, how do they have That much body to stand posed like that?
      - Show us how you do a stretch test.
      - Show us how you weigh the hem and where is best to place the weights. My guess was to use the weights for fishing line, but those contain lead... coins win.
      - Did you interline the last, black coat with horsehair canvas?
      And... could you do these as stand-alone (and therefor searchable & rewatchable) videos? Please & thank you. Absolutely loving the contrasting lining. Well done.

    I was going to comment that I have a few patterns, including the Charm one, but that I'm still too intimidated, but just as I was thinking it, you told me to just do it. Maybe I will, but later. Right now I'm working on spring clothes in an attempt to gaslight winter into thinking it's over and ending winter is my top priority 🤣

    I remember when I made my first vintage coat your Instagram highlight about the black coat was so incredibly helpful! I interlined mine with bamboo quilt batting after seeing yours with the thinsulate. Best decision I ever made. Shortly after I made it my health took a dive and I really struggled with the cold but my knee length 40s style coat was like wearing a duvet. I wouldn't have been able to leave the house without that coat. It's not lasted as well as I had hoped so will eventually be refashion into something else but I'm still so proud of it. One day I'll make another!

    I've always been intimidated by coats but the idea of interlining with Thinsulate is so genius that I might have to give it a go. I always get so sad when the Alberta winters mean I have to hang up my dressy wool coats in favour for my big parka 😫

    • @tashacouldmakethat
      @tashacouldmakethat  Рік тому

      Yes! You should absolutely try using Thinsulate! It was really a game changer It was a bit weird and bulky using it, but particularly with a thick outer fabric and the right shaped coat pattern it's marvelous how you just have no idea it's there.

    Oh all of your coats are lovely. I would wear an of these styles and I can see why they are your favourites. My dream coat right now is a double breasted, at least 3/4 length but full length is better. It will also need a hood and maybe a caplet. The fact that you add an insulation into yours gives me hope that I might be able to do it. I keep having a problem with the idea of the price of good wool fabric which is silly. I want this coat to last which means good quality warm fabric!

    I'm too scared to attempt making a coat, although I would love to. I have several patterns from the 30s and one of my goals this year is to keep a more regular sewing time in order for me to feel more confident and maybe try making a coat later on this year. I've never done lining before and I think that's my main concern. Also wool fabric can be expensive, let's not talk about Harris tweed or Shetland tweed (I live in Scotland), so messing up with expensive fabrics is not something I want to regret.

    • @tashacouldmakethat
      @tashacouldmakethat  Рік тому +1

      Ooh 30s patterns are gorgeous! Honestly I thought linings seemed intimidating until I first did one, and then I realized how wonderful they are because they mean you don't have to finish any of your seam allowances. 😁 Expense of fabrics is one of the reasons I always do a muslin for coats (I've only dreamt about sewing with Harris or Shetland tweeds 😍). Because then I at least know I'm not investing a ton of time into something that won't fit right in the end!

      Thank you! I use more modern fusible tailoring methods so I don't do a lot of pad stitching (though I've done some). Jackets for Real People is a super helpful book about that and they talk through interfacing too. I buy my different professional grade fusibles from Fashion Sewing Supply, including fusible weft which I've used for different purposes in coatmaking including flatlining pieces. I've so far just felt the need to use their ProWeft Light for that but they also have a medium and I think heavy grade too.

      Thank you so much! I'll look for that book. That's good to know that you have had such great results with the fusible interfacing. Thanks for the recommendation. It's hard to know what is good when you're shopping online.@@tashacouldmakethat

    Where is the pattern for that cardigan? The collar, the bar wings! It’s amazing!!!

      No pattern for the cardigan, it's something I designed for myself a couple of years ago. I may eventually make a pattern with the shape. 😊

    I am curious why you dont sew on a vintage machine. Love my singer 500a!

    Please can you show us a cost from start to finish? The ideas that you have for cold weather are ideal for many of us. Did you embroider in chain stitch? I must make longer gloves...😊

      (Sorry, catching up on comments while I was out of town) I may walk through it next time I make a coat but all coats are very different, so nothing would be exactly the same. 😊 The longer gloves are a godsend for shorter length coat arms I must say! Re: the embroidery, believe it's stem stitch.

    Hi, very enjoyable video! When on the green cost you say you underlined with vintage tailoring methods, what did you use? I'm about to start a jacket and don't want to use iron on - avoiding plastics plus unlikely to stick to the fabric. Thanks.

      Thanks! As I said in the video it's fusible professional grade interfacing, so you do iron it on (but technique is everything). It's nothing like the interfacing from craft stores though and is very high quality. I've used their pro sheer, pro tricot, and pro weft for various purposes. I use their interfacings all the time, no issues! Here's where I purchase from: www.fashionsewingsupply.com/index.php?cPath=22_31

      @@heathermyers2763 No worries! It's good stuff though, and the pro sheer products in their line, I've put in many machine wash/dry garments without issue. Highly recommend.
