I use seaklear in my reef for the last few years, dosed directly to my overflow, never diluted, no filter socks, just the regular filter fleece and over-sized skimmer.

I agree with your experience. Personally I've used Sea Klear Commercial Grade LaCl (undiluted) occasionally for the last 13 years directly in my overflow so it will mix in my plumbing and then filter through my Rollermat but that is only 100 microns and skim fairly wet. In my system 20 drops from my BRS 1.1ml doser reduces PO4 0.02 ppm for my 450g allon system. It does work, per the forums the 10 micron socks supposed keep the precipitates from getting back into your tank since it make cause breathing issues in tangs.

WOW....this could be a game changer for me. I struggle with high phosphates (greater than 1.7 ppm). I've used GFO and it gets it down some but never lower than 0.8 or so. This might be the ticket to help the GFO get it down below 0.3 or so! Great information!!!

Hi Ken, i switched from using GFO to Lanthanum and have been happy with the change. Only thing is the chemist from our brand here in Australia (Brand is Quantum which i believe will be available in the US soon) strictly says to never use Lanthanum and GFO at the same time as the Lanthanum can strip phosphates out of your GFO so apparently you should always remove any GFO or phosphate removers before starting dosing Lanthanum.
I went from cleaning my GFO reactor every 2-3 weeks and replacing GFO to now dosing a diluted Lanthanum solution using a dosing pump spread out 8 times a day which maintains my phosphates between 0.03 to 0.06 depending on my feeding. It is super easy to control the level this way. Just test regularly and if rising increase the daily dose until it stops rising then add some extra manual doses to drop to your desired level. From there just test regularly to make sure its staying were you want it. I have a roller filter which may also be helping. Over all i am happy because i just want to reduce the amount of jobs needing to be done. Just keep my dosing bottle full and that is it. Cheers!

You can use a phosphate remover for pools as long as you dose correctly. The Lanthanum binds with the phosphate and makes it a larger molecule. Then a 10 micron sock will remove. The residual lanthanum will be removed by the protein skimmer.

Here’s a good one but sum it up
      5ml for every 20gallons
Water gets cloudy which is why the video suggests using a filter sock, but we don’t care at all since were cooking rock. The lanthium draws out the Ph04 which precipitates out (gets cloudy).
      When water settles dose again
Repeat until you get zero phosphate.
You don’t really have to change the water out. BUT at the end your rocks will be covered in dust so the last step is to thoroughly rise it off. It’s harmless trapped phosphate.

NoPox is essentially carbon dosing to grow bacteria, which then consumes nitrates and phosphates in a ratio. A protein skimmer then exports the excess bacteria. What’s shown in the video chemically binds phosphates into a state that interacts with and as a result can be exported by a protein skimmer.

I don't know, but I can mail it to you. I'll need your postal code to get a quote, but assuming you want one bottle, shipping is likely $11.

Good video, thank you ... for my 100-gallon aquarium I should use 60 drops to carry my acceptable phosphate values. Now, instead of having that effect go up and down every 20 or 25 days, for example, could I have a weekly maintenance dose? for example 6 drops weekly? How could I calculate it?

    • @melevsreef
      @melevsreef  5 років тому +1

If you dose 60 drops once a month, why not try 15 drops a week? I’m considering that method myself today.

@@melevsreef I found a real problem using this product yes it got rid of po4 but it mimics calcium and it gets absorbed by coral skeleton aswell🤔 the apex doesn’t know any difference to the calcium and it stopped dosing kalk through my reactor 😳 I had to setup a seperate dose to dose alk till it finally dropped calcium essentially not dosing calcium at all it messed with the apex programs I do not recommend using this long term a Refugium is the key to lower phosphate and nitrates imo

@@smiles1969able Any time you add a chemical of any kind, it will affect water parameters. This is a flocculant. It may affect alkalinity but it won't affect calcium at all. When you dose a product, it's important to check water parameters a day or two later to see.
I've been using variations of this ingredient for more than decade (that's longterm, right?), and maintain water quality. I don't use kalkwasser; I do run a calcium reactor to replace alkalinity and calcium 24 hours a day. I also use the Apex controller which controls the calcium reactor to some degree, but not the way you do it.
If you continue to use it, you'll figure out that sweet spot and be able to dose without problems.

I do review products, but this was not a product review. It was me sharing my experience with it, while discussing previous products that worked as well. Phosbuster Pro, Phosphate Rx, and now Phosban-L. People want to see how things react in their tank, and my tank is a good way to showcase what happens.
