- How you ever wondered exactly what people are referring to when they talk about a "Dog Box"?
In this video we take a look at the Dog Box out of our Honda Civic Rally Car, and talk about the differences between this construction and a common synchromesh gearbox you'd typically find in a street car.

when i think of dog box straight cut gearbox i always think of the 2001 BMW M3 GTR.
the gearbox whine sounds like a jet engine as the revs piles up
clutchless dog box are bad for street driving if my info is correct since the dog box engagement works at high revs
low revs you will be grinding gears
For anyone wondering this a year on, and with a sample size of 1, I've got a Jericho 4 speed dog box in my V8.
So long as throttle is around 40% or preferably less to take some load off the gears you can slap your next gear in smooth as butter and with the sickening metal clunk that's disgustingly satisfying as you do.
You can drive around as you would in a normal car shifting at 2000+ RPM just fine :)

How do you take off? Does it still have a clutch?
The shaft that the shift linkage goes connected to at 3:08. Was that made like that to get rid of shifter slop?

Yep, got it in my race car and the one before. Quaife (amongst others) make them.
How much angular play there needs to be?
