- I have changed all the electrolytic capacitors everything works in the camera except playback and recording I have cleaned the head drum in the cassette player and the problem is still there I do not know why this is!
The issue is they use through hole boards and the cap corrosion gets between the layers. I have restored most of the Sony Video Walkmans and inc the first GV-8 and they are terrible to restore but I have 3 x fully working units after obtaining 15 of them.
Oh what hard work!
I would not spend that time and money on components without testing them first.
A cheap ESR meter can show which ones are bad!
all the capacitors unfortunately had leaks and needed to be replaced. Everything worked on the camera except the playback and recording of the tape this may be due to overflow of the signal from a large capacitance capacitor that I made the mistake and put!
@@salvatorev_ Do you mean electrical leakage or physical leakage of electrolyte?
In any case, without an ESR meter you grope blindly!
@@emilalmberg1096 With physical leakage of electrolytic fluid, it's absolutely necessary to replace them right away, ESR meter not needed. That fluid will damage the PCB if left there!
You must replace all SMD caps. They all leak from that era. Through hole are ok most of the time. Shame Sony did not use tantalum caps like in their home video 8 decks.
@@emilalmberg1096
there's no questionning about those smd aluminium capacitors from this era : they ALL go bad even if no visible damage, period.
Whats the name of the song? I want to use it in my next time-lapse
Maybe the heads are broken, or the tantalums you installed have a very high ESR value, I suggest to install electrolytics caps.
I'm recapping a CCD-FX700e with electrolytic capacitors.
I have tried the cassette deck on other cameras and the head has no playback and records problems, also explain to me a bit with the capacitors what exactly is happening i have installed tantalum, in all the low capacities 4.7 uf 10uf i have put 22 uf in the remaining 33 uf & 47uf i have added 47uf and in 220 uf the exact same capacitance value what exactly is happening with these because I am a beginner and I do not know well I am waiting for an answer! be well you are the only one who answered my Question and I am waiting for news from your CCD FX700 repair ☺️
You should replace every capacitor without changing capacitance value, you can put an higher voltage capacitor if you don't have a replacement cap with the same voltage value, but I suggest to not change the capacitance value.
However, I'm an hobbyist, not a professional technician, but while changing NEC/TOKINS capacitors on PS3 FAT, I learned that the ESR value of the replacement capacitor should not be higher than the factory capacitor. Installing tantalums instead electrolytes shouldn't be a problem, because now I'm reminding that electrolytes have a very high ESR value, tantalums should have a much lower ESR value.
I suggest to restore the 4.7uF and 33uF capacitors, maybe this is the problem.
Have you tried to clean and restore soldering with flux on the various flat cables ports?
@@MrGasS now my camcorder has reached the level of turning off so as not to short circuit. of course when I did detach I cleaned all the boards and all the cables and connections and when I installed the new capacitors again I cleaned all the boards and cables! now all i have to do is buy the same camcorder from ebay and repeat the same process, will there be no problem tantalum capacitors ?? instead of electrolytes ?? do i just have to install the same capacity as the factory one?
@@salvatorev_ Yes, you should replace capacitors without changing capacintance, if a capacitor is 4.7uf you should replace it with a 4.7uf, if the factory capacitor is 4.7uF 6.3V and the replacement capacitor is 4.7uF 16V isn't a big problem.
The fact that the camcorder isn't working anymore is strange, is the power supply good?
Replacing electrolytes with tantalums isn't a bad thing, but I repeat, respect the capacitance values.
I use tantalums to recap PS1 consoles that people give to me, everything went good until now :)
@@MrGasS I have a lot of power supplies and they work fine but probably something is leaning on the camera boards, it short-circuits and switches off so as not to break, an electronics of this kind told me that there was a reason when people put electrolytes instead of tantalum in these cameras I do not know what else can happen the sony ccd fx series is very difficult to repair because it has at least 80, 90, capacitors that need to be changed, in other cameras I have replaced capacitors worked well with more capacitance the transmitters clearly and I would agree that the capacitance should be the same as the original! I would love to see your Sony ccd fx700 camera repair video ☺️
Hello, wondering if I can get any help. Dug out a parent's ccd-fx500e and accompanying family films - would love to be able to play them. I tried one and the playback was just noise. I don't want to try any other in case of damage to the tape during this process.
you're lucky you can playback at all.. try using a head cleaning cassette
Hi my camera hasn’t been used for a while there was a tape in it. Door opened and ejected tape but when closed wouldn’t drop the tape down any idea why ?
hi may be the camera video deck mechanism is jammed, also there may be bad capacitors on the board that are leaking and need to be replaced, what is your camera model?
Its gonna be bad capacitors...
Most of these things are ruined by bad caps these days..
@@VHSRecordingStudio this thing with bad capacitors started from 1988 until the end of 1993 in Sony cameras the cameras worked from 6 to 15 years at the most all the capacitors had already died either from leakage or drying out, my Sony CCD -FX 300 ( video8 ) purchased Dec 1992 fully functional until 2001 stopped recording from 2002 until about 2008-09 the camera only worked as player and about 2009 the camera started playing black and white tapes the cassette door would no longer open as it never worked again
@@salvatorev_ I wish Sony never used those cheap Japanese capacitors 😢

Hi, I have a Sony CCD-TR7 and I am located in Ontario, Canada. Playback works on my CCD-TR7 but the viewfinder has a white vertical line and the recording mode has distortion (I can see from using its rca outputs) can you recap the camcorder if I supply you with parts ? Name me your price I will ship it to you. I’d love to get the camera fully working. Mechanism is perfectly working.
