Most will do so long as it doesn't crumble and can be worked back into itself! Keep it in a freezer so it isnt too malleable when you work it... You can even use the wax from a baby-bell wrapping!
Alec Steele did you film this Alec? Huge fanof both yours and now Mr. Brazeals. My friend and I are currently starting to set up a forge and you both have the best instruction on youtube
You're explanations of tapers are the best on youtube. The whole "half-hammer face blows" or "half on half off" are so simple, but I've never heard them explained like that. Most people just say, "taper on the edge of the anvil" and leave the rest to the imagination. Thank you so much.
Private Class - This is one on one instruction with Brian Brazeal at our place in Brandon Mississippi, for 5 or 7 days. It is designed to improve your forging skills whether you are a blacksmith, farrier or knife maker. The class concentrates on forging techniques that move metal and the "elements of forging" while you forge the tools you need. Class cost per person is: 5 day 1250., 7 days 1750. Including all meals and a place to lay your head at night. You take home your tools.
If you find yourself with extra time on your hands you should do a few more of these videos in clay. So nice to hear everything you're saying clearly. *edit: spelling
I could forge a cold chisel using the same steps in this video just hammering two sides instead of four sides, ie, rotating 180 degrees instead of 90 turning 90 degrees? Obrigaado, Luiz (Brazil).
Yes, exactly. You can also forge hand held hot cuts and fullers that way. Anytime you want the largest or widest chisel or fuller from a given stock, you do not want to reduce the dimension of your starting stock.
Colton, if you or anyone else out there can afford to do it correctly, I'd love to film the forging of the hammer and more. I don't have adequate resources for all of that.
Hello, thanks for the feedback. Here in Brazil, we don't have a school of forging, we have to learn by yourself, or if you are very lucky to learn from a blacksmith already advanced in age. My dream was to be able to do a course with you, but I don't have condition. I'm learning a lot from your vídeos.
I also had to learn most of this stuff myself, and it took a very long time. I wish I would have had someone to learn from, also. That is why I have been sharing this information. I'd like to be able to share even more because there is a lot more to share. I had to have help making the few videos that we've made because I don't know how to do all of this computer stuff.
@@BrianBrazealBlacksmith Well... well..... well, if it isn't Brian Brazeal himself. Let me ask you something Mr Brazeal who do you think you are! Everywhere I go, I hear of the one Brian Brazeal. What do you say Mr Brazeal! Or maybe I should stop yapping and go out to my forge and practice some of those techniques you showed us and quit wasting time and actually become a good smith or even a great smith. Take care Brian Ill keep watching and practicing your techniques everyday.

When they said Brian can move metal they weren't kidding! He's moving cold steel like it's nothing.
😄 that is clay, but forgeable metals move the same with the appropriate surface area contact.
