I recently did my knee too not a full dislocation slight dislocation and relocation of the knee. I found doing resistance band exercises and machine isolated exercises helped the most with rehabilitation on the knee.

Hi! I dislocated my knee a month ago and I’ll be starting my rehab soon. May I ask if it’s okay for me to climb up and down from a bunk bed during a rehab? Thanks!
@@Mikey00016For me it took 28 days to be able to go to school, swelling stops after 3 weeks I think, it depends how bad your case is. Good luck with recovery!
Those findings are completely irrelevant for a good amount of the cases. 1st: those findings were observed on both legs, this can be just observational, not causal (instability and pain leads to reduced activities, which may lead to weakness - therefore, strengthening not necessarily would be an important factor to fix this problem, but to revert its consequences - i.e., those patients maybe show weakness on their rotator cuff as well for lack of activity, and that would be irrelevant to the patellofemoral joint) ; 2. Trochlear and patellar displasia are the main biomechanical factors for patellar instability, and no strenghtening strategy will overcome that biomechanical disadvantage, as if the patient is weight bearing with external rotation of the knee the patella will move laterally, without any effective contention. External rotation is necessary to adapt our foot position on different weight bearing situations. 3. Even surgeries (reconstruction of the extensor mechanism), without fixing the trochlear and patellar displasias, are innefective. 4. The hip external rotators play an important role preventing/controling femural internal rotation during weight bearing. Honestly, those observations are quite irrelevant. A patient with that instability will dislocate the patellofemoral joint with or without strong hamstrings or hip external rotators, with or without good VMO function, with or without ligament laxity or tear. All the best
" A patient with that instability will dislocate the patellofemoral joint with or without strong hamstrings or hip external rotators, with or without good VMO function, with or without ligament laxity or tear." -Sure they may, but having bad VMO function with ligament laxity and a MPFL tear sure will increase the chances of dislocation won't it? And so the opposite is true that having good VMO function, no ligament laxity and no MPFL tear will make dislocation less likely
@@asharedo Hi, mate I dealt with that my whole life. I have done intensive training; surgery; extensor reconstruction... femoral and patellar dysplasia are the biggest factors. if there is external rotation of the knee + weight bearing, you go one way, the patella goes the other. Subluxations surely more common than luxation, all the best
thank you for this input. I don't have much experience with patellar dislocation, but so far none of the PT interventions have worked. You have a very good point about the biomechanical factor being a thing that predisposes a patient to dislocation and no amount of rehab can correct that. While I support that a bout of PT is worth a try, there comes a point where we realize that it's not gonna reverse the problem. Maybe in the future, my opinion will change...
@@Khakiness Thank you. 17 yers+ taught me that our profession is amazing, we can do so much. But we can`t fix everything, and depending on the factors behind patellar dislocation, we will not fix it, nor surgery will. I have seen a few times people with a reconstruction of the extensor mechanism of the knee still having persistent pain, subluxations and even luxations. Others, it happens once and never again, as trauma was the cause, and proper rehab does the job! All the best.
Ive dislocation mine by bending down and it just popped out of place but it never really hurt is there a reason why because i keep hearing its suppose to be very painful
@@SportsManiax1 i’m feeling much better now, it’s been 2 months ish. i can bend it fully, i can walk with 1 crutch but i need 2 to go up a single step to my bathroom. I’m still sleeping downstairs so i don’t know if i can go up the full stairs at the moment but I’m scared to go up them. I still need surgery though because I fractured my kneecap & tore my MPFL ligament. I’m on the waiting list for MPFL reconstruction surgery :) My advice would be to get to the physiotherapists as soon as you can. They will show you strengthening exercises to strengthen the muscle. Your quad muscles help to stabilise the knee - try your best at those exercises! Also, get walking everyday, try to walk normally -> heel to toe then lift and bend the knee a bit when you walk. Watch videos on youtube to show you. Get well soon!

It has been 1month already since I've dislocated my kneecap (3x) and I still can't walk until now. 😭😭😭 I'm so depress because of this. I just stayed in the apartment last holiday season. The doctor just replaced my knee support because they found out the reason of the knee pain recently too and it's because of patellar dislocation. I don't know when can I walk again. I have been attending rehabilitation but still so painful to walk and can't bend and straightestraighten my knee. 😭😭😭 Please help. 😭😭😭 I'm feeling hopeless already. 😭
@prospectionnumeric377 Appreciate your reply. Actually I can slowly walk without crutches already, but I am still using knee support everyday. I am afraid to take it off because I can feel sometimes that it will gonna slips out of place again but thanks to the support it didn’t. Have you experienced this too? 😢
9 days ago I have dislocated my patella (R) for 6x already since I was a child and the latest dislocation happened last week gives me tremendous pain. My ortho has reduced the patella however still I can't walk may legs stays straight with immobilizer and I can't even bend my knee. I feel like my muscles is so weak to do so. I will be starting my rehab next week hopefully I can walk again.

On my sixth dislocation, gomna have to get surgery. Do your physical therapy as much as you can.

Anybody knows why the isokinetic test in this video is performed with hip flexión > 90° and no in sitting position ? Thanks !
