    Thank you so much for this tutorial! It is really well made and super helpful in this process. This is such a niche topic that its hard to find information on it for model kits, but this really knocks it out of the park. I appreciate you raking the time and the energy to help us all!

    I just started using pigments and attempting to figure it out and your way has been literally the best way for me to do it and I just wanted to say THANK YOU!!!!!

    Thank you for this! I’ve used “model pigment powders” before but they’re so expensive and can be difficult to find. I’ve thought about using ones for nails but wasn’t sure they’d actually work b/c they’re like $1-$2 on eBay vs the $10+ for the ones I’ve used previously. It appears the application (and results for that matter) is the same. Thank you again!

    That finish is just goat , you know I'm wondering if some alclad aqua clear would seal it , then it could be cleared. Id love to do a large scale truck model like that but without a clear id forever worry, lots of ideas to think about though !.

    On model cars I use common glossy floor polish. Can be dipped, or brushed on without streaking. Also it's acrylic so it doesn't affect the paint, or powder.

      Do you have a specific one that does the trick? I don’t know much about floor polish and don’t want to choose a wrong one

      @evankimbrell3222 I use Future but it's discontinued, and getting hard to find. Quick Shine is supposed to be the same product. I've seen several videos where it was used.

      @@anthonyhendricks7377oh that’s awesome. I actually almost picked up some quick shine yesterday but they were out of stock. Would you go with the multi surface floor finish or the multi surface pure wax? Thanks for replying!

      @@evankimbrell3222 I would use the floor finish. I've got a stockpile of Future Floor Polish. It's out of production. I bought it up when I heard it wasn't going yo be available anymore.

    This is soooo sick thanks for sharing! I have some questions if that's ok! If you use a lighter shade of powder (like yellow) would white spray paint be better as a base(or work at all)? And... Can you paint on top of the powder? Like for example if i wanted to use this as a base color and paint stripes on top or something!

      Asldfkjdslkf I'm horribly sorry, I never saw this - might as well reply to it now for completion's sake :'>
      For your first question: NO, lighter powder shades do not go on a lighter base but still black!! This is the basic principle of a mirror: cdn4.explainthatstuff.com/how-a-mirror-works.gif
      HOWEVER, you can get some pretty neat effects if you use powder on gloss white (or other color), where it will, depending on the powder, turn into a nice colored or even pearlescent sheen visible from certain angles. Not quite unlike interference! A lot of nail powders even show how different the powder will look, depending on the base: bit.ly/3uID9eL
      As for the second question: I have found that I can add details on top of chrome powdered pieces just as on any other surface, really. Once the part is cured, not even water should wash off the chrome powder anymore; given you polished it on well enough to stick to the paint. I'm not sure about stenciling or masking tape though, would be careful with that or anything sticky 🤔
      Late, but hope it'll help still, or someone else 🙈

    I do have a question, what if i will use a matte black instead of a gloss black, will it come out different from what you did? Or it doesnt matter at all?
    Thanks for the answer. :D

    • @maiasaliger8691
      @maiasaliger8691  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! Unfortunately, I am fairly certain that it will not work at all the way you hope - the matte black would likely not hold the powder at all. Though as with everything I say - go ahead and try it on a plastic spoon! Best way to experiment and see how it will turn out 😊
      If you want a matte look, you're probably better advised to add a matte coat on top once it has properly cured, however also and most definitely try this on a spoon first to see the effect! Nothing worse than ruining a painted piece 😅

      Thanks for the reply. I am trying to use this type of customization on my Gunplas, hehheheh. And yes, I do after a matte finish on my chrome powders. And yeah, maybe a top coat of matte/top will do the trick. Thanks again. :D

    Nice vid tutorial.. i just want to ask can achieve some kind that effect in clear plastic without totally block the translucency of the plastic? 😅
    I want to try on my gunpla custom.. thanks for response

      OH CRAP I'm so sorry I totally forgot to reply to this!! I'm honestly not sure I can answer that, as I have never tried using it on clear plastic.. But I imagine you could test that on a clear spoon; and instead of using gloss black paint, you'd just use gloss clear. It *might* work, but definitely test that theory first! If you're going for an iridescent kind of look (like the colors on soap bubbles), I fear that using these powders will not yield the desired result... but again, feel free to give it a try! Let me know how it goes c:

    Can this powder work on no coating gundam? Directly on base plastic part

    • @maiasaliger8691
      @maiasaliger8691  5 років тому

      This and any nail powder should work on anything that you can spray gloss black on! The gloss black base coat is highly essential though, you can NOT apply the powder to bare plastic. Always wash the plastic parts with hot and soapy water first to remove oil and grease, then spray the gloss black and follow the video! :)

      Are the gloss black spray can at fully dry or semi dry condition? Please explain me

    • @maiasaliger8691
      @maiasaliger8691  5 років тому

      @@sukirmanmaman6739 Definitely NOT dry, the paint must still be tacky/slightly sticky. I usually test on the alligator clip holding the plastic part - if you leave slight finger prints without the paint sticking to your finger, it is in the perfect state. Definitely test on spoons, practice is key to get a feeling for it! :) Remember to NEVER directly touch the painted part (even with the powder on it) with your fingers before it hasn't dried for 12-24h. After that, you can safely touch it and the powder will not come off anymore.

      @MaiasaLiger thankyu for your inspiration, im from indonesia.. i had bought chrome nail powder to try like you had done... had you try a kind of topcoat? Who the best topcoat apply the powder

      @@sukirmanmaman6739 Unfortunately I have not yet been able to find out how to topcoat the powders I use - adding a clear coat with a spray can WILL dull the colors a lot, and hair spray does not work any better either. I have not tried fixatives or airbrushing yet due to a lack of materials. Sorry that I can't help you with that, I don't know the answer myself D:
