    That is very fast. You can see how fast it impacts. What a great project!

      Thank you, Toadley Browne. This was purely a "myth buster" project that turned out far better than I had imagined at the time. This project rifle is a varmint gun of its own merits and is absolutely devastating on woodchucks. I have wanted to try the Hornady 35 grain V Max and Speer 32 grain for velocity, I expect I can break through to 5300 fps with either projectile once I am able to source these bullets.

    That one has some heat on it, and I like it!

    I have a 22 CHeetah Mark II which is quite similar. I built it on a short 700 action with a Boyd's thumbhole. The barrel is a 27 inch Douglas heavy sporter with a 1x16 twist. I load 55 gr. v-max with 50 gr. of H4350 , Chrony says 4050. That is a very accurate load, will make a three shot cloverleaf at 150. I have whacked two coyotes at 200 and it was instant death, no exit and about three drops of blood on the ground. I usually save the 40gr. for my 221 fireball. But you have my attention with these chrony numbers. My 1x16 twist does not like 60 grainers but I think it would handle the 40's. I have a 6mm-06 that will push 65 grainers to 4300. It will make a crow literally explode at 250 yds. Might be fun to try these 40's at 5000 just to see how many pieces float to the ground.

      You could probably obtain very high speed with the 40 grain bullets too, or for even higher velocities, you could try Hornady's 35 grain V Max bullets as well. This rifle has a 1 in 20 rate of twist, it was quite an ordeal to obtain the rifling button, some of the story is in this earlier video on my channel. ua-cam.com/video/xfH7RapqTl0/v-deo.html The slow rate of twist is the main reason, in my opinion, for the extremely high velocity, although, this prevents the use of bullets heavier than 50 grains. Have you tried Nosler's 55 grain 243 bullet in your 6mm - 06? I'm sure that rifle of yours is a screamer too! Let me know your results with lighter bullets in your 22 CHeetah Mark II, thank you so much for watching and sharing your experiences with these high velocity 22s!

      @@markcarew6724 Don't think my twist will allow me to get to 5000. But I think 4500 would be possible with a case full of H380.

      I believe your 22 Cheetah Mark II has slightly greater case capacity than the 22-243 Middlestead, I think you could be knocking on 5000 fps with 35 and 32 grain bullets. I have been using IMR 4320 with 40 grain bullets which may burn a little faster than H-380, let me know how you fare with your results.

    This is awesome, If i get mine built Im looking to shoot 75grn+ my spare .224 tube is a 1:8 so the long pills is what I will be after but this is sensational mate.

    I shoot a 22-243 plain Jane. I have 69 grain sierra hpbt at 3650. They shoot under 1/2 moa out to 600 yards. I want to try the 35 vmax. Do you have any recommendations on powder? It's a 28" barrel.

      Thank you for watching this crude video. In this rifle, I use IMR 4320 and IMR 4064 with light for caliber bullets. I believe H-380 and H-414 may work well with these light bullets, although, these two Hodgdon powders are a little slower than the aforementioned IMR powders. I expect your rifle possesses a much faster twist barrel than does my rifle which may affect your results. I have recently acquired two boxes of Barnes Varmint Grenade bullets in the 30 grain offering. I hope to try these bullets shortly in this rifle and I will share my results with you.

    I I know you're not sure about Barrel life yet but does the barrel get hot only after a few rounds like the Swift?

    • @markcarew6724
      @markcarew6724  2 роки тому

      Yes, the barrel is extremely hot after merely 10 shots in reasonably quick succession, I usually allow the barrel a few moments to cool between five shot strings. Thank you for watching.

    Did you just come up with this caliber I’m sure it’s not factory where do you get dies from for the ammo

      Thank you for watching the video. This wildcat was first described by Paul Middlestead in about 1960. It is the 243 Winchester cartridge necked down to .224 caliber with the shoulder pushed back slightly and formed to 35 degrees. Originally, this wildcat was chambered in barrels with 1 turn in 10 inches, designed to stabilize 80 grain 224 bullets. Middlestead created the cartridge to improve results beyond 500 yards with 224 caliber projectiles. I ordered the dies from RCBS, which has them listed as a "standard" wildcat offering in their catalogue. I formed the cartridges from new, unprimed Winchester cases, then fireformed them in the chamber of the rifle. Accuracy is quite good for such an overbore cartridge.

      47 grains of IMR 4320 behind a 40 grain Sierra hollow point and then down a 28" barrel with a 1 in 20 rate of twist. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    Way to hot burn your barrel at 1000- rounds. Hopefully it dont blow up on ya. That a ton of pressure. Speeds not everything.

    • @markcarew6724
      @markcarew6724  Рік тому +3

      This barrel now has 660 rounds down the tube and it has significant throat erosion, although, accuracy is still acceptable. The pressure is normal and shows no signs of impending doom. Speed is not everything, but it is with this particular project. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment.
