finally, I found someone that really teaches the secrets of the watercolor technique... thank you sir!
This is the best watercolor tutorial for Pumpkins, ever! I look forward watching the Pumpkin Wagon. Your choice of color pallet is brilliant. Thanks for sharing
Thank you Annie!
Thank you! I have seriously enjoyed this tutorial. Love Fall and your clear. imaginative directions allowed me to add touches, adapt my pallet and give demension to a delightful project.
Your shadows are my favorite part of the whole painting! They have so much life and really define the midtones. Gorgeous, gorgeous color.
Always great to watch you paint and listen to your comments about what, why, and how you are painting! Thanks, Rick, for this tutorial!
Thank you!
I have to add that that is one of the reasons I love your tutorials. What why and how! One way to remove the fear and difficulty of watercolour!
What a fun seasonal painting. Thanks.
Thank you Rick. I did the pumpkin tutorial last year. It was a great success and is hanging in my kitchen. I love it!
I don't even know how to start thanking you for your tutorials. What I have learned from you is astounding! When I follow along and paint with you I feel like a real artist! I wish I could show you my pumpkin painting... I'm so proud of it! Thank you so much!

Without a doubt, everyone enjoys your UA-cam channel with your excellent painting tutorials.Ahhhh!...pumpkins,sure do make us smile...such great values giving the painting the atmosphere of a fall day...also, the tumbling aspect of the pumpkins is an interesting way to portray them
Thanks for the great comments Linda!
Once again.. you take a challenging subject and break it down to make it seem do-able ... even for me ! " ] ... Thoroughly enjoyed the entire tutorial .. and of course learned something ... as always ! Plus .. the sun shining on the pumpkins just makes me happy !! thank you !! ...
Thanks for the great comment Sharon!
Hi Rick! Your pumpkins watercolor is glorious!! Neat idea for masking off the light areas of the stem. Beautiful transparent layering, and wonderful tip about following the stem with your brushstroke. Wonderful dark, mysterious areas between your pumpkins really set off the fruit. I love how you explain your process so clearly. So pretty!
Thanks for the great feedback Dena!
@@RickSurowiczWatercolor Have a super rest of your week, Rick!

Love your pumpkins. I gave them a try and posted in your Facebook group - Thank you!!

That's great!
Thank you! I did last year’s tutorial and can’t wait to try this one. The shadows are fantastic.
Have fun painting!
Very nice work.
Thank you Kevin!
Impressive work, thank you🙏
Thanks!
PS Also; thank you for doing intermediate longer wc tutorials. I know how much time goes into painting and editing tutorials. Most artist are willing to do longer beginner tutorials. But at some point you do kindof control that. And since I have no wc classes in my neighbourhood for intermediates I very much apreciate you taking time to answer questions and do longer tutorials. I might be intermediate. But I like to finetune basics. And it is always nice when you can ask an artist and they actually will take the time to answer this. PS2. Since we enter the holiday season can you do a series of winter cheer paintings that will work for cards as well as bigger size paintings?
I'll be doing a few with a Holiday theme.
Great tutorial - thank you! This is going to be so much fun to try!
Thanks!
I really love this painting! It is so lively and sunny! You worked your magic on some simple pumpkins and it is beautiful!
Thanks Donna!
Great work, Rick!
Thank you!
Awesome work!
Thanks Debbie!
Thank you!
Fantastic Tutorial Rick! We are doing a Plein Air at Hunter's Farm and this will be most helpful.
Thanks Bruce! I hope your Plein Air outing went well!
@@RickSurowiczWatercolor It did. Everyone commented on your video and loved it.
Rick, I can't get the effect you do with the water bottle. I bought the one you recommend. The spray is fine except it also sprays some large blobs of water. Any recommendations how to fix this or work around it?
When I use the spray bottle, I often start close to the paper. I lift and pull away at the same time. Also, normally, I don't depress the spray button all the way down, just part way.
Very nice 👌👏👏🙋
Thank you!
You think I can reach the same mixture using ds pv19 ultramarine and burnt umber? ( I can always add in quin gold when needed for the glow ) I don't think I will have the patience for your tape method... Guess I will be using my sennelier masking fluid with the small dispenser needle like thingy for it.
You should be able to get close to the warm dark tones.
@@RickSurowiczWatercolor is there a sub to reach the cool tones? I have a small set of ds colors; I could opt for a mix with pyrrol red with hansa yellow light instead of quin gold I guess for a cool tone variation. I rarely use cool color mixes. I like the warmer tones. I have some cooler tones but they seem to be unemployed on my palette lol
Salve bellissimo! Ma curiosità che tipo di scotch usi per mascherare le zone da non dipingere? Grazie
Thank you! I use a tape called "Duck Brand".
Rick, this is wonderful!...is it possible for you to share the reference photo...I would love to try it 😊
Opps... nevermind... you already did!!!!!! 🙄😂
Where do you get the reference photo?
I have the reference material link posted on the top of my online learning center landing page. There is a link at the top labeled "UA-cam Reference". Here is the link: ricksurowicz.podia.com/
The instructions are to do the initial wash wet on dry and then after that wet on wet. In the video the added water after the initial wash is by spray bottle. Are you using any other water on the paper that is not shown in the video? It doesn't look like but I don't want to use too much.
No, the paper is getting saturated from the spray bottle.
Thank you Ric....Another grear artwork! Quick question, can you please share the brand of your frisket, so I can ask my friend to buy it for me in U.S.? More power to you.
Thanks WIllie! I use "Grafix Incredible White Mask". I get it from Amazon.
@@RickSurowiczWatercolor Thank you Rick
@@RickSurowiczWatercolor Is this the white transparent tape? I would like to request my friend in U.S. to buy it for me. Thank you.
"and I enjoy painting pumpkins from time to time" - I literally burst into laughter... Anyone else?
Its an all year round addiction here... I use the white pumpkins a lot in spring fun with greenery.
Yes! I break into a big silly grin when I see all the pumpkins coming out for October! You are not alone! This has inspired me to paint some !
I am all about the pumpkin!! Hehehe I am even hosting a collab where people paint or draw pumpkins or use the color orange- there is something wonderful about pumpkins!!
👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️
Great painting. TFS. You might want to do something about the shadow that your arm makes on the painting. I was a little hard to view. But, really fun.
Thanks for the feedback Sarah!
I have NEVER,EVER seen packing tape used as a mask! What the heck kind of tape are you using? I truly can’t believe this works on most papers...
Hi Tony, It's clear packing tape. I use it on 140lb cold press Lanaquarrelle watercolor paper. I'm using "Duck" brand, but I've used others. I recommend trying your particular roll of tape and paper to see if they are compatible.
All I said was “ yikes”. I would end up
Tearing paper.
Great tutorial. Thank You 😊
