46 years born and raised in Houston, many trips to Astroworld as a kid and I had no idea about that suite or how it's just frozen in time like that I'd love to be able to go there
i did the remodel there probably 30 years ago. we did the bar area you see with the astros theme.. when i got there it looked like the old pictures you showed.. we only did minor repairs in the suits and they still look just like they did when it was originally built.. i was told elvis would rent the whole floor when he stayed so im sure he has been in every suite. was also told he did not like the suite you thought he slept in and would sleep in the suite called the jungle room. thanks for the video. it brought back memories
I worked for AstroWorld as a teenager. I'm 57 now. We would sneak into that sweet all the time, and have a blast. We were well-behaved and respectful and enjoyed every moment. I can tell you more than Trey about that room, and I'm glad he shared this video with everyone it's a piece of Texas history.
I can not believe how gorgeous & historical that place is. And how they let it go! I can’t understand it! We have gotten to see that thanks to you! We need to start a petition on saving not only this place but other historical places here in the US!
This is amazing. So cool to step back in time and see it. It’s a shame to see it abandoned. Wish it could be restored and bring this history back to life.
This hotel still exists as the Crowne Plaza Hotel near the Houston Astrodome and still has several suites in it. However, less well-known is Houston's gaudiest apartment inside the Houston Astrodome, itself. This apartment also was built by and belonged to Judge Roy Hofheinz and featured a putting green, a shooting gallery, a puppet theater and a bowling alley, while a private terrace overlooked the playing field. The décor in the Astrodome apartment was gaudy enough to make Elvis blush!
Absolutely amazing! I always get a bit sad watching these videos, imagining all that once happened within those walls. That was a whole different time, and I love that everything is pretty much intact. Even the beds are made. I'd love to explore a time capsule hotel like this one day!
Wow! This was awesome. To just imagine Elvis in that Penthouse and what took place there gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Thank you for taking us here Trey and all the time and money it takes for you to do this for all us ELVIS fans. Great work as always
Very cool!! Born & raised in H-Town. Vividly remember the hotel and only ever heard stories or saw pictures of this suite..Was great to actually see inside.. Thanks for sharing!!
I was there in 1970. He was playing the Houston Rodeo. I was five and still remember. Saw him again at the Hofheinz Pavilion on the University of Houston campus. My dad was a huge fan!!
One word Trey 'Awesome' . I love that it is still all original and hasn't been changed. Like certain parts of Graceland it original and like you said how it would have looked when Elvis stayed there. I love it. Thank you so much Trey !
Hey there Trey. Loved this episode. I saw Elvis that night. I was a teenager in love with him and still an. The rodeo concert was crazy and sold out. It was awesome.
@@GlobetrottingWithTrey I'll answer. I was there. It was the beginning of Elvis touring after the 68 Special. Over several days 200,000 people saw him in my beloved Astrodome. It was huge for a concert. Of course we were all excited and loved that he went around the arena in the back of a truck to get closer to the fans, as was his way. But I preferred seeing him in Vegas up close and personal.
I have been in there for an event for OTC (Oil Technology Conference). It was dinner and business keynotes for a tech company. We were given tours of the entire floor. I believe to preserve it, they only use it for tours and special functions.
Wow, great find. Wouldn't it be wonderful to renovate rather than replace? The history of those rooms - if walls could speak! Love that story of Elvis waking to find the queues waiting. In our hearts, in spirit, they still are. Thank you for sharing this with us all. TCB.
Nice video, although it isn’t abandoned so much as it is just closed off. There are occasions where organizations such as Preservation Houston, etc. will arrange tours of the suites. Personally, I’m glad that it’s been kept as is. Roy Hofheinz was a genius, and he had a wonderful suite in the Astrodome itself, but I understand all that has gone away, so very nice that the hotel has hung onto this. I’ve actually seen personally-signed cheques from Elvis when he stayed there. LOL!

Kiss played. I want to say the music hall but stayed at the suites at the hotel. A friend of mines older brother hung out in the lobby and got there autograps. It was in the makeup days and were not allowed photos but recognized them and some signed album's. Houston is a dying city it will go to the wrecking ball. Our new citizens from Venezuela and abroad dont care about the ASTRO WORLD hotel.
Seeing the Astrodome again brought tears to my eyes as a former member of the UH Cougar Band during the mid/late 80s when the Coogs played their home football games in the Dome. I spent a lot of Saturdays in that place and at AstroWorld. University of Houston also fairly recently tore down Hofheinz Pavilion where the Coogs played basketball. We would walk to HP from our dorm at UoH and watch the Rockets play. Super cheap since we were students. I'd forgotten about that. Thanks for bringing up long forgotten memories!!

As a native Houstonian + former employee of now defunct AstroWorld. I am pleased you showcased this once Guinness World Record breaking suite. The reason the floor is NOT used is it it is NOT "Code" It's old like Disneyland + not ADA compliant. The "Judge" had exotic and over the top tastes. The Astrodome to us "old school" means a lot including the former park. While they exist in the "South" to attend the BB game or park was NOT segregated. @@elvispresley9632 Hi Elvis....I have a lot of printed articles about the hotel. The model of the park was/is on display @ Central Branch Library in Houston, TX downtown. I was actually tasked with bringing it from the Astrodome to Astroworld where it was to be restored and placed in the atrium of the administration building. That NEVER happened, but thankfully it DID get e temporary restoration, but still needs some TLC. Ed Henderson made the model & drew the 1st park map. HE is who told me where the model was @ AD.
Hi Trey. Reply to your question. What stands out about this concert was it was my very first and it was Elvis!!! Teenager and loved him since I was 10 years old. The entrance when he arrived in the red Jeep and riding around the dome. All the girls rushed to the rail to see him up close. Girls screaming and crying (me included). He was a beautiful man. He put on a great concert but far away. All the great songs and dancing. It was wonderful. I still have all the Elvis souvenirs, program and photos that I could buy. I saw him 3 more times in Houston.
Born and raised in Houston,my senior prom was in this hotel! and I just recently found out about this! Wow! Piece of history! Had no idea that was up there! What a gorgeous suite that was!
Hi Trey, I am amazed that this suite has so many of its original features after 52 years even the books in the library are still there. Is there anyway of checking to see what plans the authorities have for this suite? I'm thinking that the rest of the hotel is still being run as a hotel and that they will restore the suite eventually. An amazing Walt Disney link too. Take Care
ISN'T THIS JUST AMAZING!!!!!. I WONDER TOO , IF AUTHORITIES ARE GOING TO " OPEN THIS PART UP FOR GUIDED TOURS AS WELL ". LIKE YOURSELF, RIGHT DOWN TO THE BOOKS ON THE SHELF , EVERYTHING HAS BEEN KEPT IN IT'S ORIGINAL DECOR, AND INTACT , LIKE IT WAS " BACK IN THE DAY " , SO TO SPEAK. A GREAT NOD TO " WALT DISNEY, ELVIS, MICHAEL JACKSON, PRESIDENTS ,AND SO MANY MORE,,I EXPECT. HAVE A GREAT DAY, AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. TC ALWAYS PLEASE, AND GOD BLESS Y'ALL 🙌 🙏 ✨️. AMAZING HISTORY IN THIS PLACE!!!!.
Elvis played for the Rodeo in the Astrodome. The Astrodome has been mothballed, and no longer used for activities. Every couple of years new ideas are circulated on what to do with the empty building. The hotel still operates as a hotel in the lower floors
Wow. Just WOWWW! How cool is this? How did you ever get to go in there, Trey? And what will ever become of this? Such a shame just sitting there. Thank you so much for taking us along. I loved it! 🤩⚡️

I remember back in either 1984 or 85, my high school teacher stayed at this hotel. It had something to do with photography and she told us she picked the jungle room and described it just like you recorded.
WOW! Shocked am I... this hotel has been under renovations for YEARS! For most of my life I have heard about this suite. Judge Roy Hofheinz was pure showman of his day and age.... and this was his baby... even have heard tales that Howard Hughes shut himself up in this suite for long stretches of time. Once they even offered tours of this and tours of the suite in the Astrodome it's self. I sadly was never able to take one... but, have heard of them. Surprised that this sits so much like it does. Have often wondered whatever became of this suite... kinda guessed it had been gutted long ago.
Exactly and right now it’s still 1970 up there! Hopefully this video will be viewed by a million people and show that people would pay to tour or stay there! I’m here to help them promote the place to fans… save it Wyndham!!
This is amazing! I’ve stayed here and NEVER knew what was above my head! Please go back with a lighting source so we can see the rooms that were to dark. Oh hell, now I’m going to go back and tip the maintenance man to let me in and explore this piece of history one day.
There are pictures provided by Paper City and Chron if you google Astrodome hotel celestial suite. I actually found the walk through gave a more realistic view vs the pictures felt a little filtered. I’m such a fan of historical sites but I get it how you would like to see it with a lighted view for the nostalgia effect. I’m grateful for this beautiful view

Obviously they would have to make sure, it would be made safe for tourists, and people whom live in Texas. There are SOOOOOOO MANY ELVIS FANS, MJ FANS, HISTORIANS ETC ,ALL AROUND THIS BIG WIDE WORLD 🌐 WE LIVE IN, THAT WOULD LOVE ❤️ A GUIDED TOUR!!!!!!!!.
THEY COULD GATHER PEOPLE ( LIKE YOURSELF) , TO GIVE SOME PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE, TO ADD TO THE GUIDED TOUR.
HAVING SAID THAT " I DID READ A REPLY FROM SOMEONE, THAT SAID " SOMETIMES THEY DO OPEN THIS UP TO THE PUBLIC???".
THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH, FOR YOUR WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE MICHAEL, MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!.
I WOULD ABSOLUTELY 💯 👌 ❤️, PAY TO HAVE A TOUR OF THIS HISTORIC PENTHOUSE ,AND ANYTHING ELSE.
SO MUCH HISTORY TO BE LEARNT, AND IT'S JUST SITTING THERE " FROZEN IN TIME " , WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, AND MIND BLOWING!!!!!!!!!!!.
OH , OUT of curiosity, what work did you do at AstroWorld , before it was shut down????, if you don't mind me asking.
Anyways, I WISH YOU 🤞 A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR, STAY SAFE, AND TC ALWAYS PLEASE.
GOD BLESS Y'ALL 🙌 🙏 ❤️.
MICHAEL TAYLOR, IT'S ME AGAIN.
IM GLAD TREY GOT TO VIDEO TAPE THIS, IT MUST BRING BACK ALOT OF MEMORIES FOR YOU.
OK , HAVE A GREAT DAY, AND TC ALWAYS, AND GOD BLESS Y'ALL 🙌 🙏 ✨️.
Great job, Trey. Really enjoyed it.
This is amazing! Great Job!
Its amazing that its abandoned yet i don't see any dust or cobwebs anywhere. I hope they have plans to restore it.
great episode Trey, 70s were the best of times, Thank You
Yes they were!
Absolute time capsule. So happy you could see it. So much noise from the freeway.
Pretty cool Trey, thank you for sharing!
Great Job thk u!
WOW!!! It's still beautiful!!!
Born and raised in Houston,my senior prom was in this hotel! and I just recently found out about this! Wow! Piece of history! Had no idea that was up there! What a gorgeous suite that was!
Wow. Awesome 👌.
Amazing Trey. Didnt know it was still there!
It is amazing place though. Good video.
Elvis played for the Rodeo in the Astrodome. The Astrodome has been mothballed, and no longer used for activities. Every couple of years new ideas are circulated on what to do with the empty building. The hotel still operates as a hotel in the lower floors
My mom went to see Elvis at the rodeo. I will never forget that. I was just a baby. She went to the 1974 appearance. 😊
Wow. Just WOWWW! How cool is this? How did you ever get to go in there, Trey? And what will ever become of this? Such a shame just sitting there. Thank you so much for taking us along. I loved it! 🤩⚡️
I hope they find a way to do something with it and fix it up without changing it! Keep it just like it is but with some tlc
@@GlobetrottingWithTrey Yes, absolutely! How cool would that be⚡️😎
This has been great! So weird that it's been that long and the same! Thank you Trey.

Great, great video!
Wow !! Thank you for the video 👍👍
I love this, Trey!! Thank you!! I subscribed
I remember back in either 1984 or 85, my high school teacher stayed at this hotel. It had something to do with photography and she told us she picked the jungle room and described it just like you recorded.
Thank you for sharing this it was extraordinary you always do such a beautiful job I respect you very much keep up the good work God bless you always
I live not far from here. This is the coolest thing ive ever seen in houston!
It’s a hidden Houston treasure still with us!
Wherever Elvis was anywhere in the world have now becomes a museum of its own, but Graceland and Tupelo to start with.
Brilliant. Let’s hope that room is kept and not destroyed or modernised because once it’s gone it gone
Exactly and right now it’s still 1970 up there! Hopefully this video will be viewed by a million people and show that people would pay to tour or stay there! I’m here to help them promote the place to fans… save it Wyndham!!
It’s so clean, omg look at that bed. 😮
Let me know when u go!!! I'll chip in with the maintenance man ;)
I wish they would bring back multi level floor plans . So much fun .
I agree Trey I think that Elvis was staying in that room!
Gotta love H.TX. Homegrown Houston
.I remember this hotel. Can u imagine the smell of aging velvet?? Omg thank you
It's truly beautiful. If I had money, I would definitely invest in this place. If someone is willing to invest they should leave it as it is.
Great video Trey. Really enjoyed it😎✌️
Awesome job!
Great job trey bringing the history to Elvis fans Going were most fans can't!! what happened to the hotel why isn't in use any more?
.
The hotel is still used.. the suite is not..
Amazing video and information. Thank you for sharing! TCB
