I don't care what people who hated this movie say, I loved this movie and thought it was scary & funny at the same time. it was like National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation meets Black X-mas but with Krampus

When it comes to the look of Krampus in this movie. Its writer an director Michael Dougherty did his research an discovered. That the only constant things in all the descriptions where he has long horns an a long tongue an goat feet. So he did want to give Krampus a face in this movie so Krampus is wearing a mask made out of someones face. That's why the mouth was always opened an never moved an the eyelids never moved. Because Krampuss real face is behind the Mask face you see.
He did that because he didn't want to be the one to say or show his face. Like this is what Krampus looks like because the elfs faces are all actually. Different people's interpretation of what Krampus looks like. He sent people to the real Krampus Festival to get as much information an lore as possible. Before making this movie so by having Krampus wear a human face mask over his real face. It means that no ones description of Krampus is wrong. Because you never see Krampuss face in this movie.
Now about the ending Max's grandmother never confronted Krampus. She had the opportunity but she just let him leave so she was left alone.
Now Max did the opposite he confronted Krampus an wanted to undo his wish. He was willing to sacrifice himself for his family. Wich his grandmother didn't do. So they all got a second chance with the memory's to make sure. The lesion sticks because Michael Dougherty said nothing in the movie is random.
The movie a Christmas Carol playing in the background. In the start of the movie is a foreshadowing of the events of the movie. In that movie Ebenezer Scrooge gets a second chance but he remembers what happened before. So that means they get a second chance but they remember the events that happened.
Side note Michael Dougherty also wrote an directed the movie Trick R Treat 2007. He confirmed that both movies happen in the same universe.
This information comes from Krampus the naughty cut. Basically the directors cut of the movie on the audio commentary an other bonus features for the movie.
Also this movie was basically kinda cursed. Because on the audio commentary they said basically every single day or other day. That they were filming this movie someone working on it had a family member die.

The Helpers all have names, which is part of what I love about the movie, how much creativity rather than just making them generic.
Der Klowne is the Jack in the Box, Perchta is the cherub(creepy angel), Teddy Klaue(Teddy Claw)is the bear,Tik Tok is the robot, Lumpy, Dumpy and Clumpy are the gingerbread men and the creature in the snow is the Snow Beast.
30:57, I love Der Klowne applauding happily when the elves come to his rescue.
Playing "Up on the Housetop"as Krampus comes is just cool.
Krampus is wearing a face as a mask. You can see the eyes are more goatlike and the skin beneath is...definitely not human.
Glad you understand the ending. A lot of people believe that Krampus has them imprisoned, but that is not the case. The comic "Krampus:Spirit of Saint Nicholas"confirms that he watches everyone and is ready to punish them if they lose the Christmas Spirit again.

Krampus is a demon that, long story short, Saint Nicholas of Myra gave an ultimatum. Either return to Hell and serve the devil, OR remain and serve St. Nicholas while not uttering a word.

The clip of the ghost of Jacob Marley is from what I consider The Best Version of "A Christmas Carol" starring Alastair Sim. It's a MUST SEE!!!

Yeah here in Europe Krampus is know for working with Santa.
So while Santa brings presents to good kids, Krampus would take the bad ones to punish them.
Love that you don’t see his face but just a wooden mask like they’re still made here in the mountain regions.
This easily one of the best PG13 scary movies.

On the audio commentary for Krampus the naughty cut basically the directors cut of the movie. Michael Dougherty says that was done because in every single discretion of Krampus. There is only 3 constant things they are he has big horns , a long tongue an goat feet. Every thing else changes from discretion to discretion. So he decided to have him wear a mask made out of someones face. So you don't see his face that way no one's discretion is wrong. Cause in point the elves their faces /mask are all different people's interpretation of what Krampus looks like.
He sent people to the real Krampus Festival to get as much information an lore as possible about Krampus before making this movie.
But he obviously changed the part about beating an putting people in bags. Because as he said no movie studio on earth would approve of an fund a movie. That has a demon beating kids an putting them in a bag.
He said they had a hard enough time with the baby. Because they had to fallow a bs rule that limited how much the baby could cry on set. That includes off screen that's why the baby is hardly in the movie. Because if something fell an made a loud noise an the baby started to cry. They would get in trouble so the baby was hardly even around.

The most unrealistic thing about this movie is inviting your family you don't like to stay in your house with you for like three days at Christmas. Eat dinner, exchange gifts and get the f out.

This is a good movie, but it contains two mistakes (the baby and the dog cannot be guilty of anything) and a bad script choice (max should have accepted the gift) which prevented the production of a sequel (maybe even set many years later) to conclude the story of the trapped family.
