He goes by the name of The Treeman and hails from Liverpool and for the past four months I have been filming him trying to play the intro to his song 'Ghost of Love' which has frustrated him to the point were he has broke 3 guitars, almost chewed his hand off and smashed his house to smithereens...

fongfongy mmmmm not really. If he hit drums like that he too would probably break them. Or at the very least go through the drum heads. Drums isn't about using the full force of your arms and legs to hit the drum, its all in the wrists, fingers, and some forearm. The less energy being burned, the better. The point is to move around as fast and as accurate as possible with the minimal amount of energy. Just like a runner or an athlete. They are hold to pace themselves. He would tire himself out in a matter of sec's. lol a minute at the most.

Given the right encouragement he can do it...the poor guy is clearly trying to express himself. Theres clearly some trauma there in his story. He definitely made me feel good if its any consolation, nearly falling off my chair onto my kitchen floor. Its combination of the really tender song followed by the interruptions of pure anger that got me. Negative emotions are useless. Gurdjieff spoke of the constant expression of negative emotion as mans primary weakness.

Start slowwww. Use a metronome. Increase by 5BPM gradually. Only increase the tempo when you can play flawlessly at the current tempo. Stay calm. Breathe.
He will have to stock up on the metronomes, as he will probably give them the boot as well.

Once the gimmick of laughing at a guy raging hysterically is over, you realize its a guy who is blaming his hands, wrists, fingers, posture, concentration, and then taking his rage out on anything in range when in reality he hasnt practiced enough to earn the ability to play the song to begin with, and it sort of becomes a video of a guy despairing and falling apart in front of millions instead. Its like a fine line of comedy and tragedy whenever someone is really upset and raging haha.

Hope he learned to keep right on strumming along when he misses a chord because most people listening rarely hear small mistakes anyway unless we stop playing or point it out.
Its just a fact we all know that nobodys perfect & professional musician's mess up on stage all the time but we rarely ever hear it because they keep on playing without a hitch.
This man can play so I really do hope he kept it up because frustrations are just all apart of learning anything my friends so ignore it the best you can and play on. Keep on keeping on!

Always wondered what happened to my old music teacher...
1. Calm down. Take some deep breaths, drink some tea, take a bath, light a candle, go for a run, or go beat the hell out of a pillow or a punching bag or something else that's not going to break if you have to. Frustration is your enemy when it comes to music, and you need to learn to channel it or work around it.
2. Stop insulting yourself and beating the crap out of your hands and your instruments. That will get you nowhere except with beat up hands and an empty pocketbook from buying new instruments. Stop practicing before you get to that point of frustration. If that means taking a few days off or missing a song at a show or even missing a show, so be it. Let it go.
3. Try switching to electric. It's easier to play and has a more dynamic sound.
4. Learn an easier song. The success will keep you motivated to learn the tougher ones... plus you have a simpler song to play while you're learning the complicated ones.
5. Ask for help. Colleges, Music stores, Online communities, even UA-cam, are places that are literally CHOCK FULL of helpful, knowledgeable people who can talk you through nailing a lick or learning a song if you ask.
6. Got a problem? KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!) it. Simplify the riff. Take out the picking and strum through it.
7. If you mess up, in practice, remember that it's got to sound like utter crap before it can ever sound amazing. If you mess up in performance, keep in mind that you're likely the only person in the room who noticed. Especially if it's an original. As an artist, you always have the right to say "I meant to play the song that way this time"... even if you didn't.
8. GIVE UP. If all else fails, leave it where you found it and walk the hell away. Nothing is worth being masochistic to yourself or sadistic to your instruments over.
