6:25 For those out of the know, White Day is a Japanese holiday that acts as a counterpart to Valentine's Day. It's tradition for girls to give boys gifts on Valentine's Day, but in turn the boys are expected to give girls gifts a month later on White Day. As the name implies, a lot of times these gifts would be white to go with the theming. It's become less common over time compared to both just giving each other gifts on Valentine's Day, but it's quite an interesting deal. Speaking of Nintendo games, White Day actually exists in the Japanese version of the original Animal Crossing, where if you play as a girl you'll receive letters from boy villagers in March instead of February. Very interesting.
@wanderingwobb6300 Technically speaking, it doesn't even have to be wood! Mulch more or less just refers to something being used to insulate and potentially improve soil around a plant, though even looser definitions just boil it down to material spread over soil. It could be wood chips, but it could also be dead leaves, dry grasses, compost, rocks, cardboard, or even rubber chunks if fire hazards are more your style. My arboriculture professor had a mild obsession with it, alongside a disproportionately strong dislike of turf grasses.
The whole set up of the mulch story, only for the whiplash of liking the smell of gasoline like it was just casual stuff, really made me shake my head with a "Wait- Huh?!"
14:10 My time to shine! Aerospace engineer here. It would depend on the direction of takeoff and the depth of the roots normally but since this runway seems to be used for taxiing as well (driving the plane to park) the direction of takeoff doesn’t really matter and the plants are gonna be hit no matter what by some wind. I’d be more concerned with eating anything that is subjected to jet exhaust but that’s a biologist question!
I’m an aviation enthusiast (hence the username) and I’m more worried about wildlife interference (Usually bird strikes but there was that one plane that hit a deer when taking off from Charlotte)
Not sure if this applies in this particular situation but I know that some vineyards fly helicopters overhead as a frost-prevention measure. Something about the downdrafts pushing warmer air down to circulate around the plants and prevent them from hitting frost point. Maybe Mistralton's planes have a similar side effect? Probably to a lesser extent than the heat coming from the engines though ahahaha

@ Some Muslim terrorists stole some planes and crashed two of them into some very expensive towers full of office workers, killing a few thousand people. Governments around the world, but especially the United States, took this as an excuse to engage in mass campaigns of privacy invasions and "security steps" that never caught future terrorists but did make airports feel like prisons.
Throughout this Let's Play, one of my favorite things are the voices Chugga gives the NPCs, especially the more eccentric ones like the mulch lover. And I must say Kirby's commentary just keeps getting better and better. He has such a way with words.
Hey Chugga, to make you feel better about liking the smell of mulch. Mulch is mostly made out of composted plants, such as grass clippings or tree bark chips.
Mistralton City is based on and on a real world map where Teterborugh Airport is. It is a primarily civil read private airport that is also used for freight. The reason its not used for commercial passengers is because its not far from Newark airport which is the only commerical airport in the NYC area that isn't in New York state. It also flies over a lot of private and public roads. So some people actually get to see them fly in on their way to work

That mental image of Strutly smugly sliding into frame and standing/flapping directly in front of Harmony is too good, hope someone plans to make fan art of that. I also like to imagine after Strutly is done helping and the team leaves the building, Harmony and Strutly end up in a loud squabble against each other in the air, meanwhile down on the ground McFly and Pignati just look at each other in disappointment at their party members, Jade is a little worried about her friends, and Aidan ends up somewhat impressed by Harmony’s hot-headedness and goes “Wow...” like that meme of that one guy after seeing a girl vape
I love how they'd sooner phase out Hail entirely instead of just buffing Ice types a little, not even offensively, just let it resist a few things and it would be good
All it needs is to resist like Water and maybe Flying or Fairy (Fairy needs an offensive nerf anyway and if Fire resists Fairy, Ice sure as heck could use that help)
@@BronzeFacade Resisting Grass hurts what's already a relatively underperforming type, though Ice resisting Ground would make a lot of sense given things like permafrost and glaciers. Resisting Bug, Flying, or Fairy due to how cold weather interacts with sensitive creatures is likewise a thematic argument, with Bug being the worst choice mechanically since it already struggles plenty while Fairy is currently just too good. Water is laughably better than both Fire and Grass, which is why we kinda need something to make Grass better and something to make Water worse to bring the three closer to the parity they're supposed to have - and Water/Ice both mutually resisting each other fits on many levels.
In today's episode Chugga takes us to a tour of the city, and Kirby helps him by being there. Now for the only localized name in this episode. Skyla=Carolina, from geranium carolinianum (Carolina geranium) And that's pretty much it, not as much to say today.
I feel like you're really excellent with episodes that are all about getting the vibes of a place. Those are some of my favourites, in every game you cover.
Emile, your play throughs are the BEST. They helped keep me calm in college, and now, 10 years later, they’re helping me keep my mind off a breakup and work stuff. So thank you. Love your content!
something emile forgot to mention with the weather tm's is that rain dance makes it so moves like aqua ring heals more, and the move Thunder bypass accuracy checks. also makes moves like hurricane more accurate. edit: Sunny day also makes moves like moonlight heal more, because in japan Sunny Day is called Clear Sky in Japan. Edit: appearently aqua ring isn't buffed by rain.
Just looked up both aqua ring and rain on Bulbapedia, and it seems like the "aqua ring heals more" isn't actually true, and that neither move affects the other.
Sunny Day improving Moonlight actually still makes sense even in the localized name, as the moon can be visible in the day and the more sunlight there is, the more the moon has to reflect.
I like mistailtin city. I can totally see it being a trading route and center in a legends arceus style game, being built with the farms on the bottom and the , and the booths at around where the takeoff is. A place where travelers stop and rest in the past in the place were people travel around the region in the future! Today, im playing cup head! I just beaten the mermaid lady, and I'm currently fighting Sally stageplay; easily my favorite fight in the game so flaw! The fight tells a story, the third phase looks straight out of a rpg, and the art looks amazing!
Nope. Scarlet and violet. U don't meet the actual professor in person till the final story. Otherwise its just over video calls. That's the longest it takes to meet the regional professor in person in game. U can nitpick that if u want given the circumstances behind SV's professors but still. It did Dethrone BW2

4:35 I'm very curious how the X & Y Let's Play will go, assuming it happens. I know some still love them to this day, but they've never really been among my favorites in the series. Quite curious to see how Emile feels about them beyond scattered thoughts.
I’m terrified of the gen 7 let’s play since I love those games to death. Hoping for it to be somewhat positive and not just complaining all the time, like we had for a bit during this middle early episodes of this series.
@@5ashll303 He's actually said that he really enjoys those games in the past. If anything, I feel most of the complaining will be on the original versions vs. Ultra, since there were some changes in the latter that he wasn't a fan of if memory serves right.
@@skinnym.4190 yeah. I’ll be interested to see which version pair he plays. I thought he was pretty positive, but to be fair everyone was when they came out only to later turn on them. But we’ll see..
@@5ashll303 He's said a few times that he likes the characters in Alola and thinks they're underrated, so I wouldn't expect more negativity than usual.
@@5ashll303 Nah, he mentioned liking them pretty recently, as in this year IIRC. I mainly recall because I'm also a big fan of the Alola games, so I found it nice to hear. I imagine he HAS to play Ultra due to the bigger Pokémon selection and extra features, but may find a way to still incorporate the original Sun & Moon.
I don't know where you were, but where I live what we call mulch is made of wood chips and fibers to cover the ground around plants. It's fertilizer that's made from manure.
And once again Professor Juniper just gives you a Master Ball, no strings attached. You know, for how rare these things are, it's interesting how she got hold of two of them in the span of two years. You can't even get hold of two Master Balls without glitching. Or you know, Action Replay.
She's a notable authority in the field of Pokémon. If anyone were to be given a Master Ball, it would be a Professor or a particularly high-ranking Trainer.

16:30 Some things not mentioned about Rain Dance is that Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight heal half as much HP and the move Thunder gets the Blizzard/Hail treatment where it is always 100% accurate
Updated Pokémon Statistics: Pokémon KOs: 289 - 239 Trainer KOs - 50 Wild Encounter KOs Party Pokémon KOs: 37 + 6 Rental Pokémon KO'd Escapes: 48 Implied Murders: 58 (Pokémon KOs started on screen, but finished off screen) Bonus Sodas: 1 Repels Used: 65 Failed Captures: 8 Double Battles: 21 Triple Battles: 2 Switch Battles: 2 Tracker Days Off: 4 Kirby Cameos: 10 I will be making a personal decision and will not be counting Kirby's Cameos towards my regular statistic upkeep... So in other words this will be one more uptick towards the Tracker Days Off!
Personally Hail should have been just given the 50% Defense buff to Ice types rather than being outright replaced with Snowscape If Sandstorm can deal damage and give Rock types a 50% Special Defense buff. Hail can be given the same
I disagree tbh, Sandstorm at least can work with Rock, Ground and Steel type Mons allowing for a lot of team variety without needing certain held items or abilities. Hail meanwhile will funnel you into Ice types exclusively to avoid the chip damage, and Ice types just cannot tank hits to save their lives. Plus a lot of hail based abilities like Slush rush don’t exist yet I believe
Extra stuffs on the weathers: -Sunny Day also boosts Moonlight and Synthesis's recovery and lowers the accuracy of Thunder and Hurricane to 50%. Growth becomes a +2 to both Attack and Special Attack. -In contrast, Rain Dance causes Thunder and Hurricane to never miss. -For all other weather conditions except Sun, the above healing moves only heal 1/4 HP and Solar Beam's power is cut in half.
As of 2023 its still the longest we've gone since meeting the professor in person since SPOILER in S/V the professors were dead the entire time and you only ever meet their androids.

So mulch isn’t necessarily poop. While it’s a possible ingredient the most common ones are actually plant based, tree bark, wood chips, grass clippings etc. you’re just as likely to have shredded news paper as feces in it. That being said as manure is very good for plants a lot of high quality mulch does use it, I’ll never forget the day my Dad brought my Mom a literal truck load of dirt and shit to celebrate there anniversary
*On Team Plasma's ship* Sasha: Man, how many Swadloons did we steal that are now loose? Shantae: A lot apparently. It's taken us over a week to round these guys up. Shimmer: Well at the very least, it's given us a great excuse to hone the mind control for this little Dewott. *Ontario can be seen chucking Swadloons back into their cages* Shimmer: *sigh* It feels nice telling someone else to do our dirty work. Shimmer: Yeah well I forgot/don't care. Sasha: Actually, I think their names are Adam and Ava I believe. Shantae: Again, does it look like we care? *while the three are talking, Ontario spots something in the distance and investigates. He's then pulled behind a box via Shanir's Vine Whip* Shanir: Ontario, listen to me. I'm here to save you. I don't know how but you and I are getting off this boat and meeting back up with the others. Ontario: ... Shanir: Ontario...? *Ontario grabs Shanir and chucks her into view of the others. He then uses an Ice-Type move to freeze her in place* Shanir: Ice?! But how do you...? Shimmer: Oh, well look who decided to come back aboard. Shanir: Did you guys teach him new moves!? Shantae: Yup. What good is a Pokemon if they have no good moves to battle? So we had him learn some pretty devastating moves so he could assist us in combat. Including Ice-Type. Shanir: You realize you're also weak to ice. Sasha: I did try to warn you... Shimmer: Shut up! It doesn't matter because he's under our control. So, tell me Shanir. What are you gonna do now? *to be continued*
“[Rain Dance] doesn’t have too much effect in moves…” It makes Thunder bypass accuracy, that’s a good combo Also not mentioned, Sunny Day _halves_ the accuracy of Thunder (Sunny Day also increases the healing from Moonlight and Synthesis, not just Morning Sun)
11:44 I was listening in the background and thought the NPC was saying, "I eat **MULCH!!!** I need lots of MULCH!" and thought EWWW but then I looked back at the vid to see him sayin, "I need mulch." LOL

Kirby was so talkative in this episode!!! What an absolute cutie pie!!!
The Ace Pilot Medal guy must be a member of the industrious *TEAM SKY~*
1:55 These are the topical Clay Aiken jokes I come here for
Kirby's mighty talkative today, isn't he?
I love how they'd sooner phase out Hail entirely instead of just buffing Ice types a little, not even offensively, just let it resist a few things and it would be good
All it needs is to resist like Water and maybe Flying or Fairy (Fairy needs an offensive nerf anyway and if Fire resists Fairy, Ice sure as heck could use that help)
@@RoninCatholic I was thinking Grass or Ground since, as Emile said, ground is kinda *always* in the meta for its offensive coverage
@@RoninCatholic Thank you for explaining that, so many people think I'm crazy for saying this but it would be an easy fix they just never bother with
In today's episode Chugga takes us to a tour of the city, and Kirby helps him by being there. Now for the only localized name in this episode.
Skyla=Carolina, from geranium carolinianum (Carolina geranium)
And that's pretty much it, not as much to say today.
Localized where?
@From the french localisation of the games. For every episode I put the names for the new mons and characters appearing in the episode.
Kirby is such a cute and sassy cat. I love how he meows his way into recordings
Also Chugga. Mulch is made of wood. Manure is made of poop
I feel like you're really excellent with episodes that are all about getting the vibes of a place. Those are some of my favourites, in every game you cover.
I want the uncut footage of chugga selling mulch to the mulch man
Emile, your play throughs are the BEST. They helped keep me calm in college, and now, 10 years later, they’re helping me keep my mind off a breakup and work stuff. So thank you. Love your content!
Im gonna miss Kirby's input of all of Chugga's weird moments...
0:05 NOW'S YOUR CHANCE
something emile forgot to mention with the weather tm's is that rain dance makes it so moves like aqua ring heals more, and the move Thunder bypass accuracy checks. also makes moves like hurricane more accurate.
edit: Sunny day also makes moves like moonlight heal more, because in japan Sunny Day is called Clear Sky in Japan.
Edit: appearently aqua ring isn't buffed by rain.
Huh, even after all this time, Aqua Ring being buffed in Rain is news to me. That's kinda neat if right.
Nevermind.
In sun Thunder has its accuracy reduced to from 70% to 50%.
@@Flash33cDoesn't Hurricane also get dropped from 70% to 50%
Rest in Peace Kirby, your interruptions will be sorely missed ❤
Yeah… 😭
@@db_524 Kirby... 🥺
I just want a video where it's a day in the life of Kirby.
Me too. He's such a pretty kitty.
I have some bad news...
I understand you man. I really do.
I mean if you wanna pick nits, BW2 still holds the title for going the longest before meeting the professor in person 😅
Nope. Scarlet and violet. U don't meet the actual professor in person till the final story. Otherwise its just over video calls. That's the longest it takes to meet the regional professor in person in game. U can nitpick that if u want given the circumstances behind SV's professors but still. It did Dethrone BW2
I was said out loud when the blub came on, "Uh, he's techinally dead. That uh robot."
@@catherinebaldwin6580 for violet it's he. For scarlet it's she. However. Both are arvels parents. 1 walked out. The other...well we know what happened. It just reverses who did what. So either yeah. And technically even if they are a robot...still the professor
@SonicBlast4444 I'm only nit picking cause the professor was in fact dead the whole time in SV so. 😅
@@BubblingBrooke maybe so but the android does fufill their role as the professor. To everyone else except the player. And i guess arvel and the gang....the android WAS the professor. They count.
4:25, and to think someone had the bright idea to make her skip battling in the amine in favor of flying. Really want to know who's bright idea was that.
Good thing Cilan and Ash brought her to her senses.
“Listen, I like poop as much as the next man-“
*spittakes*
I don't know where you were, but where I live what we call mulch is made of wood chips and fibers to cover the ground around plants. It's fertilizer that's made from manure.
And once again Professor Juniper just gives you a Master Ball, no strings attached. You know, for how rare these things are, it's interesting how she got hold of two of them in the span of two years. You can't even get hold of two Master Balls without glitching. Or you know, Action Replay.
Wrong. Spoilers below for Black 2 and White 2:
In the postgame, you can beat Colress on the Plasma Frigate for a second Master Ball.
Or being extraordinarily lucky in the lottery in some games.
She's a notable authority in the field of Pokémon. If anyone were to be given a Master Ball, it would be a Professor or a particularly high-ranking Trainer.
@@royplatt455 Well... you _normally_ can't get two Master Balls.
@@rcmero you can also get one in BW by having 50+ different OTs among the pokemon you own.
Hearing Kirby meow makes me sad now.
I love the Mulch guy, Emile's voice for him was hilarious.
Chuggaa: "This might be the longest it's ever taken us to meet the Professor in a Pokemon game!"
AI Sada, AI Turo, and Professor Sada and Professor Turo's corpses: 👁️👄👁️
God kirby was so vocal this playthrough. Breaks my heart now.
16:30 Some things not mentioned about Rain Dance is that Synthesis, Morning Sun, and Moonlight heal half as much HP and the move Thunder gets the Blizzard/Hail treatment where it is always 100% accurate
As an aviation geek, this was my favorite part of black 2 😁I used to make up fake airline routes between Pokémon cities lol
Updated Pokémon Statistics:
Pokémon KOs: 289
- 239 Trainer KOs
- 50 Wild Encounter KOs
Party Pokémon KOs: 37
+ 6 Rental Pokémon KO'd
Escapes: 48
Implied Murders: 58
(Pokémon KOs started on screen, but finished off screen)
Bonus Sodas: 1
Repels Used: 65
Failed Captures: 8
Double Battles: 21
Triple Battles: 2
Switch Battles: 2
Tracker Days Off: 4
Kirby Cameos: 10
I will be making a personal decision and will not be counting Kirby's Cameos towards my regular statistic upkeep... So in other words this will be one more uptick towards the Tracker Days Off!
Personally Hail should have been just given the 50% Defense buff to Ice types rather than being outright replaced with Snowscape
If Sandstorm can deal damage and give Rock types a 50% Special Defense buff.
16:39 making Thunder and Hurricane 100% accurate tho is a great utility for Rain!
Hail also makes blizzard 100% accurate
The way Emile say Mulch made me laugh so much i shed a tear.
Not just Morning Sun, but I think Photosynthesis also heals more in Sunny weather.
Extra stuffs on the weathers:
-Sunny Day also boosts Moonlight and Synthesis's recovery and lowers the accuracy of Thunder and Hurricane to 50%. Growth becomes a +2 to both Attack and Special Attack.
-In contrast, Rain Dance causes Thunder and Hurricane to never miss.
-For all other weather conditions except Sun, the above healing moves only heal 1/4 HP and Solar Beam's power is cut in half.
Trust me, Chugga, I use my vitamins too instead of selling them.
Spoiler Pokemon SV
Considering how you never actually meet professors Turo or Sada, this is probably the latest you meet a professor of any generation
The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC:
You FINALLY MEET THEM a year after the game's launch
@allingbrodniak8819 Heh, I guess that's true, now that you mention it
I...think Emile mixed up mulch and manure. I mean, mulch can have manure in it, but it's not a requirement, lmao.
17:44 "And it's not just because of that lady that I'm doing" Ah, another choice Chugga quote
I laughed too hard at the use a Masterball on a Fearow or Tentacruel reference
As of 2023 its still the longest we've gone since meeting the professor in person since SPOILER
in S/V the professors were dead the entire time and you only ever meet their androids.
18:18 Omg my art! Thank you for using it for the end credits! :’D
0:54 "As a resort, please accept this HP UP as a gift! my speech went a little sour there"
Dont you mean My speech went a little SOUTH there
okay i leave
So mulch isn’t necessarily poop. While it’s a possible ingredient the most common ones are actually plant based, tree bark, wood chips, grass clippings etc. you’re just as likely to have shredded news paper as feces in it. That being said as manure is very good for plants a lot of high quality mulch does use it, I’ll never forget the day my Dad brought my Mom a literal truck load of dirt and shit to celebrate there anniversary
*On Team Plasma's ship*
Sasha: Man, how many Swadloons did we steal that are now loose?
Shantae: A lot apparently. It's taken us over a week to round these guys up.
Shimmer: Well at the very least, it's given us a great excuse to hone the mind control for this little Dewott.
*Ontario can be seen chucking Swadloons back into their cages*
Shimmer: *sigh* It feels nice telling someone else to do our dirty work.
Umbreon 1: Hey, we have an update for you.
Umbreon 2: All Swadloons on the lower decks have been recaptured.
Shimmer: Excellent. Good work you two.
Umbreon 1: We have names you know.
Shimmer: Yeah well I forgot/don't care.
Sasha: Actually, I think their names are Adam and Ava I believe.
Shantae: Again, does it look like we care?
*while the three are talking, Ontario spots something in the distance and investigates. He's then pulled behind a box via Shanir's Vine Whip*
Shanir: Ontario, listen to me. I'm here to save you. I don't know how but you and I are getting off this boat and meeting back up with the others.
Ontario: ...
Shanir: Ontario...?
*Ontario grabs Shanir and chucks her into view of the others. He then uses an Ice-Type move to freeze her in place*
Shanir: Ice?!
Bro rain affects hurricane and thunder. I think morning sun heals less too
Moonlight also gets its healing cut by half
lol i love hearing Kirby’s meow in the background. He’s such a good boy ❤️❤️
Sixth gym and no evil team interference on the way there? Blasphemy!
“[Rain Dance] doesn’t have too much effect in moves…”
It makes Thunder bypass accuracy, that’s a good combo
Also not mentioned, Sunny Day _halves_ the accuracy of Thunder (Sunny Day also increases the healing from Moonlight and Synthesis, not just Morning Sun)
Hell that whole rain dance-thunder combo is exactly WHY some electric types can even learn rain dance!
In my nightmares, I will be hearing Emile shouting MULCH for months.
Mulch isn’t necessarily manure, it can be dead leaves left to decompose on soil or bark chips
11:44 I was listening in the background and thought the NPC was saying, "I eat **MULCH!!!** I need lots of MULCH!" and thought EWWW but then I looked back at the vid to see him sayin, "I need mulch." LOL
Kirby is very opinionated about Mistralton today
8:50 Flying Gem. Maybe less like solidified jet fuel and more like BLUE ICE that failed to melt.
Yay, one of my favorite town themes!
Kirby is a lot more talkative in this episode compared to his previous guest appearances.
