The father's reaction was just the cherry on top, all his scenes show you he is so absent whilst still being there, that's a huge reason why Vanya is the way he is, and because his mother is so domineering if you combine that with the father's lack of effort you create a mamma's boy.

1:25 it can't be noticed here because it doesn't have subtitle in it. but what IGOR said in this scene was "It would be appropriate that Ivan apologizes". Igor really cared for Anora so much. when she was at the plane about to leave and said she will call a lawyer, i really thought that's what she will do, take off with Igor, call a lawyer, get half the money and be rich with him... unfortunately it didn't end that way😔 but i guess the movie teaches us it's not all about the money
Because she isn't use to nice men because of the nature of her job. Or at least she is use to keeping those men at an emotional distance, nice or not (and we see what happened the one time she let one in with that spoiled brat). The whole movie she deep deep down knew Igor was looking after her the whole time but rejected him at every turn. Verbally assaulting him every chance she got even in the scenes she was warming up to him and they were being civilized. That's why it ends the way it does. The sex was fine on her terms. But when he tries to force a kiss (and the intimacy which comes with that) it was all too much for her and that's why she starts slapping him and balling her eyes out and so he let's her cry on his chest. He represented the intimacy that scares her the most so her default was never to be nice to him. Like the car he was sturdy and reliable and low maintenance and that scared her.
i think it kinda resonates with her calling him a fagg*t bcz the car is very feminine (as he said it was her grandmother’s) in case to show the last bit of her personality, but knowing that igor still sees her the same way no matter how mean and rude she is to him, she couldn’t hold it anymore
the first hour of the movie shows a whirlwind romance and they had good chemistry. i think she wanted to believe it so much that it clouded her judgement
It was more of she wanted to feel love, money, and more. But she saw that ivan didn't care about her, he didn't love her (which is why fled), saw her for her body( and this resulted with him being with diamond), had too much pride in himself (money and that strip club scene), and was an immature brat (as shown in the strip club, the house, and with his parents, and the intoxication), and he was submissive to his own parents. The mom enables him for the majority and the dad laughed when Anora called his own son a pussy because in a way she was right. Igor cared for Anora as a human being and felt sorry for her, he did restrain her for the greater good and only saw him as some lowly henchman, but in reality he cared for her and saw her as a victim of ivan. He himself is a victim as you can see how he is mistreated by that family. Ivan just wanted a fantasy but there is more to that and he didn't know how to be a proper husband because of his immaturity, not to mention calling ani an escort, and the behaviors he had against her when he fled the home.
Spoiler alert ‼️ The movie was so good. I don’t blame her she fell in love with him and he fell in love with her…but he was not ready to grow up. Plus he started to change when his parents got more involved 🫣…
@ i thought that too lol but if you rewatch you’ll see what I mean. 😭 the director of the film and the actor that played Vanya they explained he was in love with her… but as soon as the mention of him being cut off he just shut off all emotions…
@@Lovelyonuoha tbh that’s an interesting perspective but I thought the film was a play on how the rich use the poor or working class as toys or disposable bc his family saw her as trash and he called her an escort, but if the director even said it then I can’t refute it. @@davidcummings4383 my perspective was this as well… according to the director and the actress Mikey.. her character fell in love with Vanya and the fantasy. Originally she saw him as a job. But because of the similarity in age it blurred the lines of keeping things professional with the client… he said all the right things at the right time… everything was going as planned until his parents heard about him getting married. The scene where you saw her addressing this to him saying he is an adult… he was 20 years old and she was 23 I think..🤔 it’s crazy because when you watch it the first time you don’t notice these things.. if you watch it again you’ll see what I’m talking about I was actually shocked lol 😂 The guy to me appeared like a fantasy, and I noticed she did fall hard for him as if he was her Prince who was rescuing her from her lifestyle or whatever. At first watch, you interpret his behavior to her as if he was just using her for fun. But when you pay attention, the second time you start to notice he is struggling with growing up and is actually experiencing first love. 🤣 I think his mom babies him to be honest.😬 It’s sad because the guard who is similar in her lifestyle of being used for his body asked his employers to apologize to her. He spoke up for anora, and gave her strength to tell vanya’s mother off. At the end anora realize she didn’t understand what genuine kindness looks like without a transaction using her body.
It’s quite funny that for American society, Anora seems like a typical American, while for us, she looks like a typical Uzbek, associated with someone from a kolkhoz. She’s a person who, despite coming from a post-Soviet country, doesn’t speak Russian and always finds ways to make money easily.
