    THANK YOU . there are way too many BASIC videos about conjugating common verbs that are not suitable for an intermediate french learner . This is perfect . Make more of these videos with verbs with prepositions or useful (but not super common like "être, manger, arriver, laver") verbs.

    @froet213kil on ne peut pas car le verbe est "aider à", it is like a phrasal verb, "à" is linked to "aider" so you can't in this example. however with to go "aller", there is no problem because you can say je vais manger or je vais à la maison, the verb is not "aller à" but "aller"

    @z3158755 100% sur, "arriver" has several meaning: Je n'y arrive pas: I can't do it, etc...

  • @Frenchspanishonline
    @Frenchspanishonline  11 років тому

    yep: a place means one goes there to do something one would not normally do there; just to say where you are. a short or a long while. But of course if you are a painter working there, you can also eat there!

    to say 'I want to' in French it is just "manger" so je veux manger is correct (however for this particular verb, je veux à also exists and je veux à manger means I want food, je veux à boire means I want a drink)

    well, to get ready is "être prêt à", to prepare people's mind is preparer les esprits, and we can se préparer to get ready too!

  • @SreevatsaKota
    @SreevatsaKota 11 років тому

    Marvellous, so essentially ''dans'' with a place means one goes there to do something one would not normally do there...or if it's only for a short while?...as opposed to the use of ''au'' and a place where one goes for the purpose of doing exactly that which one is expected to do at such a place...(gosh...I've typed so much now, hope I have been able to make myself understood...)...Thanks for your responses and knowledge.

  • @Frenchspanishonline
    @Frenchspanishonline  11 років тому

    the same thing, using dans you just say where you are or where you go. for exemple, je suis allé dans un restaurant pour demander l'heure (I stepped in in a restaurant and asked the time), so you went in it but not for what usually people do in a restaurant.

    I have a question about one of the phrases that you use. When you say, "Il reussit a terminer les devoirs," why is les used instead of ses for his?

  • @Frenchspanishonline
    @Frenchspanishonline  11 років тому

    well, correct, it is but not all the times and with a different meaning, when you say je suis dans un restaurant, you mean you are in a certain place, je suis au restaurant, you mean that you are going to eat there. Dans is for locating people, for exemple if you are a painter and you have to paint the walls of a restaurant, you can say that je suis dans un restaurant. But if you are with friends eating there, you will use "au".

    I really like your videos. This one made me think that it’s about time I got down to learning by heart the verbs which are followed by the prepositions ‘a’ and ‘de’. I have a question about assister a. I thought that in English it meant ‘attend’ in the sense to be present at, not pay attention to. Am I wrong?

    • @Frenchspanishonline
      @Frenchspanishonline  4 роки тому +1

      Pauline6247 to attend, to be at

    • @Pauline6247
      @Pauline6247 4 роки тому

      Learn French with Pascal Thank you so much! That was very prompt. So in the present tense it would just be translated as ‘attend’ then, and your example ‘J’attend la reunion’ would be ‘I attend the meeting,’ as I attend TO the meeting would mean something completely different.

    @ 3:20: Perhaps it might be better to say "getting ready" instead of "preparing to" for "Préparer à". Since, in English, "preparing" is methodical, whereas "getting ready" is for a state of being, a state of mind, or attitude.
    Hence, "I'm getting ready to go out".
