Remarkably, Angelina keeps a journal in which she records her thoughts such as what she felt and realized when she met the homeless girl at six years old and gave her her shoes. I am convinced that Angelina understands that the musical gift she is endowed with came from the Heavens and that she has been touched by the Hand of God. Oh yes, and Cuteness Overload.

Perfect description - 50's gramophone with the crackle. I remember watching the needle hit the record, the anticipation of the first note after the crackle, then being totally immersed in the music. That's Angelina... I hope after signing the record deal that she actually puts out LP's and we could relive those days.

Angelina’s supreme self confidence in her abilities is evident. I agree that her mind seems to be able to channel the songs she sings. Angelina also has an uncanny ability to mimic the vocal styles of the artists of the past and present. There is also a fact that goes unmentioned and that is even at the age of six, Angelina is reading the lyrics. In her nine year old performance of “I Put a Spell On You” she wrote the arrangement. The notes you see her pass onto the music director is Angelina making a request. She is a bona fide musical genius.
Now, let's hope Republic makes available to Angelina and her family its "in-house" genius under the direction of "the Boss," that is the "Lady Boss." We can hardly wait.
One of the things that is very different about Angelina from most people besides her amazing voice is her ear for music before you can sing a song like this you have to be able to hear all the nuances like the phrasing, the vibrato, and the tone. Each of these is a skillset on there own, but you have to be able to hear them first separately. I heard a voice teacher explain how different Angelina's vibrato was that it was from the 40's and 50's not a modern type but when she sings a modern song her vibrato is more modern. She can hear what most of us don't hear in a separate way and knows how to apply them together.
I tear up every time I watch this video, and it gets worse every time I see it, which is about 100 by now, because this child’s innocence is in such stark contrast to the world in which we live. It’s too bad she couldn’t have remained 8-10 years old forever, locked in that innocence of childhood.

Good to see you sticking to the young Angelina. IMO she is such a rare and important artist that I think it is good to study her progression. It really shows how consistently she grows and evolves in her skill. One thing I especially like about this performance is how she is able (at 8 years old) to stand out there in the middle of a sea of people and just fall right into that world in her head where this song lives. She is so natural, so relaxed... every time she sings, it seems like she is exactly where she wants to be. It's almost wrong to even call her performances "performances", it's more like we're just watching her live in her world for a few minutes.... and what a beautiful world she lives in.

When you are Eight and already a Jazz Great. She stated in an interview that singing takes her to her happy place, so basically, she has a built in technique to overcome nervousness. Please keep going on this route. It will be quite a few videos until we can get your songwriter's perceptive on her major musical arrangements. You will probably see videos of her "correcting" something, it really is just her adjusting how something played to how she wants it to be.

EVEN AT THIS AGE SHE WAS ARRANGING ALL HER PERFORMANCES. plus you must also realize, ENGLISH is not her first or second language, its more like 3rd or 4th. so you hear some words with a slight edge to the way she pronounces them.

Frank Sinatra was also know for his impressive breath control. Which allowed him to stell stories without the usual interruptions (a novelty at that time). The audience was totally mesmerised by that. Reminds me of a certain norwegian girl, too.

I think she came from another planet to fulfill a mission. After your stint reviewing the vocal pyrotechnics of Dimash, it is good to see you back reacting to Angelina. You will soon learn that she can project emotion that touches your soul in most of her performances. I don’t recall any other memorable performances as an 8 year old, and you’ve already reacted to “I put A Spell on you at age 9. To me the next great performance is feeling good at age 10. By the way the orchestra was on a separate stage way behind you that you can see in the opening. I think putting her on a separate stage in the middle of the audience was an effort to put her closer to her adoring fans. She was a “National Treasure” having just won Norway’s got talent. There’s at least one other concert she does at an older age with the same stage setup. I believe it is also “Feeling Good” but I prefer the indoor version with a larger band both at age 10. Either of these will require your medication close.
I love this performance. As you say, she went deeply into that place she speaks of, and swayed, with the odd little smile. I can tell by her eyes now, when she is really "going for it". (I'm a hypnotherapist, so I'm used to watching eye reactions). I love your heart for her, Soul. You say what I'm thinking.
One of my most favorite Angelina Jordan’s songs! Thanks for the review. As you said, this is unbelievable. This is insane. Every word she pronounced, every note she sang, was impeccable. It was flawless to the most extreme. And yet, it was just a tiny girl casually singing. I would still say that for all the combined qualities Angelina has, she is no doubt one in a billion.
The location setup makes her look even more tiny in this a sea of people. And such a powerful performance. But thats Angelina, she's singing three words and she has you. She doesn't need a hook, she has that one voice to catch them all.

Just an amazing young lady. Puts you into another worldly place each time. As you have seen in the few videos you have done, Angelina is where she belongs, absolutely at ease like a walk in the park. Seen all her videos numerous times and it never gets old as you continue to see the grace and beauty and heart she pours into every song. Keep going Soul.
Have you noticed she has total control over the vibrato in her voice. This is more like 'Summertime' than 'Gloomy Sunday'. Most adults don't have that control. She is special that is for sure. She went through a big Amy Winehouse period, it's coming up.You'll find she dives in with both feet in adopting a style. Then as time goes by she starts eliminating different aspects of the voice and style of another singer until she has just what she wants from them. Then she distills things from there until the parts she wants to keep are tucked away in her brain waiting to be called upon to make a song work. She is a musical savant and her instincts are precise and correct. I know by now I shouldn't be surprised, but I am.
I'm nodding my head in agreeance to everything you've articulated. Her use and mastery of vibrato is enviable to most artist and its almost unfair that such a 'gift' resides in such a young person.

This remains one of my favorite Angelina performances. 8 years old, and she just blows me away with her tone, phrasing, and the maturity of her voice. Dinah Washington won a Grammy for this song in 1959; she has one of the most beautiful vibratos ever. pa1189j has created a terrific mash up of Angelina and Dinah performing this song. It's interesting that you mention the crackle of vinyl. Two of her later studio masterpieces, 'Shield', and 'I'm Still Holding Out for You', have some of that added very cleverly by post-processing to give that vibe directly. Listen for it when you get to them.
Soul, understand your request. I think if we all show up we can keep you inspired to keep this going. I had told you after a while the shock will wear off and you will become in awe of her when you listen to each song you hear her sing. And, you will occasionally tear up depending on you mood at the time. Soon, you will get past her age "thing" and understand she is much more than a very young person with an unbelievable sound. Angelina nails that 50’s vibe beautifully-her voice here takes the color and timbre it needs to pay homage to Dinah, but it’s still 100% Angelina. Her jazziness is not overdone, and like always, her timing and phrasing is ridiculously perfect. Not perfect for an eight year old-just perfect for the lyrics and sentiment of this classic.

After your stint reviewing the vocal pyrotechnics of Dimash, it is good to see you back reacting to Angelina. You will soon learn that she can project emotion that touches your soul in most of her performances. I don’t recall any other memorable performances as an 8 year old, and you’ve already reacted to “I put A Spell on you at age 9. To me the next great performance is feeling good at age 10. By the way the orchestra was on a separate stage way behind you that you can see in the opening. I think putting her on a separate stage in the middle of the audience was an effort to put her closer to her adoring fans. She was a “National Treasure” having just won Norway’s got talent. There’s at least one other concert she does at an older age with the same stage setup. I believe it is also “Feeling Good” but I prefer the indoor version with a larger band both at age 10. Either of these will require your medication close.

There has never been a singer that showed not only excellence in all her
performances but versatility as well. She's a 'once in a lifetime' treasure.
Her voice at that time is something to behold. raspy tone + dangling vibrato = awesomeness. The NGT judge commented Angelina must have drunk a whole bottle of whiskey and smoked 3-4 packs of unfiltered cigarettes to get that raspy effect the next day. Just an amazing young lady. Puts you into another worldly place each time. As you have seen in the few videos you have done, Angelina is where she belongs, absolutely at ease like a walk in the park. Have you noticed she has total control over the vibrato in her voice. This is more like 'Summertime' than 'Gloomy Sunday'. Most adults don't have that control. She is special that is for sure. She went through a big Amy Winehouse period, it's coming up.You'll find she dives in with both feet in adopting a style. Then as time goes by she starts eliminating different aspects of the voice and style of another singer until she has just what she wants from them. Then she distills things from there until the parts she wants to keep are tucked away in her brain waiting to be called upon to make a song work. She is a musical savant and her instincts are precise and correct. I know by now I shouldn't be surprised, but I am.
I'm nodding my head in agreeance to everything you've articulated. Her use and mastery of vibrato is enviable to most artist and its almost unfair that such a 'gift' resides in such a young person.

This remains one of my favorite Angelina performances. 8 years old, and she just blows me away with her tone, phrasing, and the maturity of her voice. Dinah Washington won a Grammy for this song in 1959; she has one of the most beautiful vibratos ever. pa1189j has created a terrific mash up of Angelina and Dinah performing this song. It's interesting that you mention the crackle of vinyl. Two of her later studio masterpieces, 'Shield', and 'I'm Still Holding Out for You', have some of that added very cleverly by post-processing to give that vibe directly. Listen for it when you get to them.
Soul, understand your request. I think if we all show up we can keep you inspired to keep this going.
I had told you after a while the shock will wear off and you will become in awe of her when you listen to each song you hear her sing. And, you will occasionally tear up depending on you mood at the time.
Soon, you will get past her age "thing" and understand she is much more than a very young person with an unbelievable sound. You know what I mean. Yes, she is physically still young and growing but her soul has been around for a long, long time.
