  • On this channel I cover the histories of nations empires and people from all over the world. I especially enjoy focusing on areas that are covered less in the mainstream or examining a familiar topic from a different perspective. Historical topics are combined with animated maps and visuals that I draw, to hopefully condense complicated subjects into a understandable framework that will leave you wanting to learn more. I hope you enjoy these videos as much as I have enjoyed making them :) If you like what you see here then please consider supporting

Those saying the old lady is not right might be young or ignorant, most Akan/Ashantis know this history even from school in the 1960/70s, if you the cared to know. This is our history it might not be pleasant now and out of date but we learnt from history you can’t erase it.

It is fine. But what happened between two brother and sister should not have applied to everyone. There are some who toil with a wife, have children together so why should someone who never got involved with the wealth creation take everything. Some olden laws do not make sense.
This has brought so much animosity between families. It has caused many in marriages to be less transparent to each other. This law is terrible. It is destroying many marriages and mostly the men do suffer.

@Asharde Ashley, totally agree.👍🏾 v archaic system of inheritance, which needs reviewing & updated. Everyone has a father but not everyone has an uncle. Just confusion and creates hatred.

But Asantes aren't the only Akans. All Akans inherit matrilineally. Linking the abusua story with Asante is not very sound.

      They have told theirs.
And the story is true with them, so no one can begrudge her using her group as case study.
      You CAN'T.
Let others also tell theirs if they would.
It's like she saying, "I'm speaking Asante," instead of "I'm speaking Twi/Akan"
How can you begrudge someone for saying the former instead of the latter?
Regardless, a great deal of Akan folklore is Asante folklore.
      Fact!

@@ghanaking59 the main reason is blood line. Blood 🩸line can be traced undisputedly through the mother hence inheritance from the mother line. They thought a man might not be the actual father of a child as claimed. For they do that for avoidance of doubt. In the olden days women normally give birth at home so your mother, brothers and everyone in the household is aware and witnessed the baby being delivered by the woman but fatherhood is always subject to prove.
