    I watched this video with a ton of skepticism but my forehands improved 100% after doing these drills for 30 minutes!! The drill finally taught me how to get rid of the dreaded wobble.

    The challenge with learning to throw putters as an instructive method is that the flight of a putter is drastically different than the flight of a fairway or driver. You must throw putters slightly nose up to get them to fly straight (and even on hyzer they must be a little nose up). You can see this in your first hyzer shots. You throw them nose up to control speed and stability. You're not going to do this on full power shots. You also aren't learning some of the most important principles of powerful and accurate forehand shots, which are takeaway, follow through and footwork/lower body involvement.
    While I think that throwing putters is great for learning some small things on the backhand side (clean spin, correct timing and not rounding, etc.) I think it's much better to "practice like you'll play" with forehand, and throw a mold similar to your on the course mold, but a little more understable.
    I throw the felon for most of my fairway driver forehand shots. I use the convict for field work sometimes, to drill spin generation and angle control. I think these things are way more important and instructive for developing your forehand than popping a putter at a basket 100 feet away

    My issue is that If I get enough wrist snap to eliminate the flutter, the shots go too far. I just can't power down my forehand. Anything 150 feet and over is smooth with both stable and understable discs but 100 foot shots, I have to throw backhand.

  • @stardustie
    @stardustie 3 роки тому +1

    So I can do all of these shots 9/10 times with a putter and have rang the basket from distances like this. But for the life of me I can't drive for shit. When I use a driver I'm either releasing really really early, nose up, way too much anhyzer, flutter or a combination of these. I just can't figure out how to add speed to match a faster disc without breaking my form.

    Says to keep the elbow tight but that's not what I see in the video

    • @dlewisfl
      @dlewisfl 3 роки тому +1

      exactly ... the best side-armers right now do not keep their elbow tight to the body. It varies based on what type of throw you're making. Watch when this guy throw hyzer vs. anhyzer and there's a huge diff in the distance between elbow/side on those two throws.

    My wrist isn't flexible...Is there a way to get more rotation on the disc without having a lot of flexibility on the wrist? Thanks for the great vid...

    • @clipnclap4256
      @clipnclap4256 3 роки тому +1

      My wrists have no flexibility either buddy. I will say once you get the timing of everything down the limited movement won't matter as much as you think. You can still find a way to load the wrist

    Nice video. Good for practice, but how do you get rid of the flutter? What the key?

    • @BuckrayTFM
      @BuckrayTFM 3 роки тому

      The grip you have to have a firm grip and the disc has to snap through on a straight line and keep the palm up through and after release

    • @BradSchick
      @BradSchick  3 роки тому +2

      Typically the flutter is from a lack of “snap” from what I see. It could be a combination of other things, too much arm involved, etc. Work on the snap and don’t try to throw it too hard. Smooth is the key!

      Most were APX in either Jawbreaker plastic or the old Swirl plastic.

    I was expecting a drill to improve my sidearm by getting a clean release. Instead I watched you practice throwing and called it a drill. I could make a video and name it "Improve your distance with this simple drill" and all I say is just throw further, practice on hyzer, flat, and anhyzer. All you have to do is just throw further, it's that simple.

  • @ajazsyed3263

    • @BradSchick
      @BradSchick  Рік тому

      Yes, the old APX in the soft Swirl plastic. They do not make these in this old plastic, but do in Jawbreaker.

  • @dlewisfl

    You say keep elbow tight and demonstrate jamming it into your side but when you actually throw your elbow is not tight and there's a huge difference in elbow position between hyzer and anhyzer. Scott Stokely, one of the best sidearm throwers in history, says "elbow tight" is bad advice. This is a good practice drill.

    • @BradSchick
      @BradSchick  3 роки тому

      Hey Dan, thanks for the feedback. You make a valid point, maybe I should have explained that better. When I say tight, I don’t mean attached to your hip. It’s a fine line, and an error I often see new players make. Their arm is way too far outside their body. It’s worked for me, maybe it won’t for you. I have known Scott for 100 years, he’s a good friend of mine. Have a great holiday, don’t lose sleep over this! 🥏😀

    There are as many definitions of "snap" as there are disc golfers in the world. One sure fact about this term, is that it's extremely unclear because of that and in my opinion should be avoided in tutorials. It has to be possible to explain what you mean in one short sentence instead of using this one word. It only brings confusion and honestly I'm starting to cringe when I hear it. I've just seen David Feldbergs vid about back hand snap and right after Ezra was mentioning it in a tutorial but in a different meaning. I'm not saying anyone is wrong here, they just mean different things when they use that word, I like all those guys and I don't want to bounce back and forth between all those tutorial and get confused ;P

    I've been playing since 2000 and I've seen hundreds of people throw, and the one thing I've learned is that the ability to throw forehand has mostly to do with your hand shape and the natural flexibility of your wrist. My son could throw fh at age 6 like it was nothing. I've seen others who have seemingly excellent mechanics who can't get the flutter out no matter what they do or how many instructional videos they watch. I've personally never seen anyone who couldn't throw one clean actually learn to do so... either you can or you can't imho. Think about it... if it were possible for anyone to learn then obviously every single touring pro would have a killer forehand...
