In Italy 🇮🇹 the situation is similar so probably is an eurasian thing... I remember things like: Me: "mom, dad! I got a 9½/10 in [random subject]" They: "What was the best score?" Me: "[random kid] got 10/10" They: "so you could have done better" Me:😦 Or even: Me: "mom, dad! I was the best today in [random subject]" They: "How much of the test have you done?" Me: "I got 6/10 (minimum to pass), but it was an hard test and nobody did bett-" They [out loud]: "Do you think we care of what oher kids are doing?! You had to prepare better." Me: "wait wha-?" [Optional] They: "you're grounded" And also my mother and grandmother running after me with the slipper or the wooden spoon was normal, as well as random relatives asking stuff like "you gained some fat huh?" Or "Aren't you too skinny?" [depending on the period] So everything he said was relatable for me and I'm not even asian.
