Oil leaks are apparently common with these. In under 5 mins learn how to fix them! About an hour of your time and you can get back to cutting
    Tools needed:
    10mm socket and ratchet
    Long flat head screw driver
T20 torx (plus driver, either battery or mechanical)
    T10 torx
    Needle nose pliers
Adjustable pliers (slip joint or similar)

Did mine (DCCS670) yesterday. Took photos taking it apart and all went well with reassembly. The star bolts have slots for a GOOD flathead screwdriver. Too bad they made us fix their problem, but I liked seeing the innards of my PLASTIC chainsaw LOL. As others have noted I believe it is from where the tank fill hole assembly marries the saw body. I applied gasket sealer there and around the pump tube stopper. The cap is NOT the problem. A small amount still drips from the port next to the bar - but so does my Stihl. So far pretty impressed with what I've been able to cut with this and the lack of fire risk and noise is a plus. I won't get rid of my gas saws for bigger jobs though.

I found the oil leakage on my saw was from the o-ring on the outlet fitting to the bar, the small o-ring didn't fit tight enough into the yellow casing. I replaced it with a thicker one and cured the leak problem.

So if you were to store it in a certain position to keep that seal elevated above the reservoir, on which end would you have facing down?

Your video inspired me to take a look at my chainsaw which also stopped oiling. In my case the strainer on the end of the tube in the oil tank had clogged with sawdust. A quick clean and all working perfectly again 😊

I contacted dewalt to ask if they had resolved the oil issue a year or so ago because I wasn't going to purchase it with a known leak. The answer was there was no design changes and to just store the saw with no oil, which does absolutely nothing about the leak.

Just bought a DeWalt 8 inch battery 20V chain saw. After cutting about 40 pieces of prune/wood, it worked great. I placed the saw down to use the next day. Noticed next day it was leaking oil. WTF - it was new! Such a great saw to have this problem. It's not leaking from the cap, so appears to be leaking from within. I can try to fix it or return it.... Since it's new, will try to return it. Great video - If I have any problems returning it, I am going to follow this video.

This is a ridiculous amount of work to have to do to fix a problem that Dewalt is aware of and does not fix. The saw is a mess to keep with their recomendation to empty the oil after use.

I honestly/sadly found out that it's better to just not use oil and say f*** it. I own this exact saw and it totally leaks just like this one so I don't even pack bar oil but I run the chain a little loose/RCH, and carry break cleaner and motorcycle chain lube. Both you can get in a spray can. Obviously you need a chain file and a skip tooth chain helps but you'd need that with a gas powered saw...
I'm a born and raised Montanan and I can honestly say that with two cans of spray I can out cut the average out-o-stater with two 9ah batteries and my p.o.s. 12" dewalt 20v, upgraded to 16" with skip tooth and no bar oil ever.

It’s a damn shame, a company like DEWALT, Black&Decker, or Stanley, who owns these companies, put out a product like this, with known design flaws. I have the chainsaw, which leaks, polesaw leaks, all brand new.. DEWALT will not stand behind the product they make. I have everything DEWALT, as far as my battery powered tools and I regret it. I purchased a brand new drill combo with batteries and spent around $350, one of the drills would not work correctly, straight from the box. DEWALT, or Stanley, customer service, said they could not fix the drill, to not send it in. Instead they wanted me to drive 1.5 hrs, to a repair shop, to get the drill fixed and said I may be charged for the bill.. I lost it! DEWALT/Stanley, is a terrible company to have to deal with. I’m almost embarrassed to say, I own the tools they manufacture… They have known issues with tools and refuse to make changes, or go the extra step, to make it right.

Can anyone show me the magic between 55 seconds and the one minute mark? I can not figure out the process for the handle removal.
Also, than you for the tip I read in here that the 10mm bolt is left handed thread. I just lightly held onto the gear with a set of pliers and the bolt came right out.
I would have 100% tightened it to the point I broke it had I not read that.

    • @Cut.Weld.Repeat
      @Cut.Weld.Repeat  Місяць тому

Hi Randy, once you remove all the screws (check both sides) the whole unit splits apart in half, with a screw driver or pry bar. The safety handle bar is also held in place with a few screws. I think 1-2 were really deep so you need a long screwdriver to access. Once those are removed the safety handle comes right out. Good luck with it

I fixed the tank oil leaks and that is fine now but the oil pump puts out some much oil that it runs out the bottom of the cover while running and coats the whole inside of the cover, Made the out put hole twice as small but dose no good still puts out way to much oil, No other chainsaw dose this and have had a lot of them, Have to try something else with that one, Now it is seeing if I can adjust the pump, On top of it the oil cap locking mechanism has to be the worst design in the history of chainsaws, It is disgusting for years now they do nothing about it after thousands of complaints, How hard is it
