Rest in peace Maestro Seiji, condolences the family, fans are always invited to keep the memory alive and organize tribute events 😢😢😢, big loving hug Maestro Seiji forever alive in our hearts 😢😢😢
I'm sitting here crying throughout the tribute to Cicely Tyson. I recently read her autobiography and I almost feel as if I knew her. What an inspiration she is!
WTF was this stacked Kennedy Center Honors like damn!!! Two of the most iconic trail blazing talented actresses, one of the best maestros to ever live, one of the most well-known influential directors with the best film franchises, and one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever. Plus the damn tributes were at their best.
Rewatching this and seeing Carrie Fisher and Aretha Franklin I was just overwhelmed with emotion. And of course Gina and Rita Moreno and Cicely Tyson made me cry.
I thought I cried when Aretha sang, but when CeCe sang "BLESSED ASSURANCE" IT WAS OVA, not over but OVA. Miss Tyson was on her feet; when you KNOW LIKE YOU KNOW you can't help but praise him, and the dam broke.😭😭😭😭
42:49-57:07 is the tribute for the legendary Ms. Cicely Tyson and what a beautiful tribute it was in celebration of her wonderful career. Rest in peace Ms. Tyson and thank you.
The Kennedy Centre Honors series, especially this one, re-affirms my faith in all things bright and beautiful. Through their brilliant performances honoring the honorees, these remarkably talented artists, in their amazingly incredible presentations, remind me, so cogently, about a better time that we all knew and loved. I cry, laugh, and feel; like I haven't felt like for so long. Its like being born again and seeing life and its possibilities, afresh, for the first time. The lives and times and of the honorees parallel, and illuminate ours. Shukriya, Dhanyavad, Nandri, Thank you 😊 🙏
Keysha Latee not only you ; but Cecee sang like an angel and all other performances before and after pale in comparison even the queen of soul (no shade) just the honest to God truth!!!!
Carole King you are beautiful. Physically Mentally, Creatively and a very beautiful soul!! Thank you for the songs, music and memories that still touch my Soul ❤❤❤❤
Thank you, thank you....Been waiting for the "full" of all these wonderful artist..... their stories and talents that I have been graced with watching throughout the years..
Wow. I'm a huge Miles Davis fan. I had no idea he and Cecilie were married. I can watch Yo Yo Ma for hours. Carole's reaction to Aretha gets me every time I watch that performance. The way Aretha just throws her coat down onto the stage. She was truly Queen of soul.
When Aretha Franklin walked out it caught everybody by surprise and her performance blew everybody else out of the water in a night of other great performances.
This was beautiful, I started my journey watching a video of Ronee Martin singing in America's Got Talent, which lead me to Aretha Franklin's Natural Woman, which lead me to this show, gotta love UA-cam!!
Sue Walsh, I totally agree. Miss Tyson is still magnificent ! I was lucky to meet the great lady while she visited my Mother at her home to gather from my Mom a rare sapphire -blue rose cutting from among my Moms garden of rare roses from all over the world. We chatted for a short spell and learned quickly, she is truly a special, amazing lady. Miss Tyson collected her rose cutting, than stuffed in my Mom's shirt pocket her family recipe for corn bread. Than arm and arm walked slowly together to the front of my Mom's estate. The old ladies hugged and kissed, waveing to me and than was driven away in her limo. I'll never forget that day.
These shows are so great.. fans are invited to ask another brand new one every single month, we have to celebrate so many great performers yeah, they made of our lives a better place wishing them never get tired performing and entertain us fans because.. we can build up a better humankind together..we have to put worries behind and focus on feeling just fine ❤🎉❤
TheRudi101 Oh yes she is a wonderful delightful inspirational dedicated actress to any role she played in I just loved her in autobiography of Ms. Jane Pitman😋😙
Cicely Tyson, I never forget the look on her face when in Sounder she ran to meet her husband, short clip of it is included in the tribute here. An iconic moment, something I've never seen before or since. Do you know what I mean?
Fun fact: that was actually the second take. The producer was so teary-eyed from her performance, he wasn’t sure if he got the first one right on camera.
Thanks Bro. It's good to take time out and reflect on the goodness of great people whom have made it possible for our freedom and independence. Least we forget the women of Afghanistan today; searching for theirs freedom.
Her mother was jus scared for her and alot of people who go to Hollywood do not come back ok. Drugs, see, alcohol gripped them and tear them apart like nothing. I Am so glad u had your mother's determination and grit to stay on the right course.
of course carole king was for the finale and omg what a brilliant way to end with aretha franklin. haha. she really had that purse with her before playing the piano.
I remember reading a behind the scenes book on the making of the movie where this was mentioned. Carrie Fisher was a bit peeved that the director and Ford did not include her in the discussion. Ford suggested it because he thought it fit Solo better, and he was right.
Rita Moreno and Cicely Tyson in the same ceremony and that's just perfection.
Aretha and Carole’s entire reaction still makes me cry after watching it a thousand times.
Yes !!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Rest in peace Maestro Seiji, condolences the family, fans are always invited to keep the memory alive and organize tribute events 😢😢😢, big loving hug Maestro Seiji forever alive in our hearts 😢😢😢

Now our Cicely is gone 😭
I thought I cried when Aretha sang, but when CeCe sang "BLESSED ASSURANCE" IT WAS OVA, not over but OVA. Miss Tyson was on her feet; when you KNOW LIKE YOU KNOW you can't help but praise him, and the dam broke.😭😭😭😭

I believe Aretha stopped playing piano around this time due to the pain. I think this is why Carol was so amazed to see her at that piano!
The Carole tribute was pretty darn perfect. Great choices for tribute artists.

Absolutely amazing! Art, music performances and what a privilege this live audience had to see such a great performance by Aretha!
The performances in given for these artists were incredible, I got goosebumps when George Lucas held Carole King's hands up in the air in 1:27:21.

Aretha killed it twice in one night, with natural woman and in the finale alongside the other great singers. My favorite KCH of all time!
When Aretha Franklin walked out it caught everybody by surprise and her performance blew everybody else out of the water in a night of other great performances.
The way aretha killed her set and the song at the end
She was so effortless. What an incredible woman.

The stage is too small for Rita and West Side Story
We bring down the house everytime. BEAUTIFUL. RIP Miss queen.
I've been watching these Kennedy Center awards all night but this is the 1st one to make me slow clap...to Aretha Franklin
President Obama is holding back tears at Aretha Franklin's performance.
Marsha Lois Camille Philpotts he wasn't crying . He just wiped his eyes
He admitted to crying
He wants to sing so bad but I guess he doesn’t want to be seen singing “you make me feel like a natural womaaaaan” 😄
These five are truly legends.

One of the greatest scenes in American cinema. Only Miss Cicely Tyson!

Aretha: "Hold my fur coat for a sec."
Err really they think that I’m embarrassed for my generation not knowing real singers like Aretha
Cece winans and Aretha Franklin really toke moved us♥and almost everyone was in tears.
I cannot imagine the cost to rebuild the theatre after Ms. Franklin brought it down.
WOW Carol King ♥️♥️♥️♥️✌️😎 love her so much.
Her mother was jus scared for her and alot of people who go to Hollywood do not come back ok. Drugs, see, alcohol gripped them and tear them apart like nothing. I Am so glad u had your mother's determination and grit to stay on the right course.
Rita deserves this and more!!
Imagine the talent inside the building that night. Not to mention how powerful the performances of Blessed Assurance and Aretha’s You Make Me Feel.
of course carole king was for the finale and omg what a brilliant way to end with aretha franklin. haha. she really had that purse with her before playing the piano.

I remember reading a behind the scenes book on the making of the movie where this was mentioned. Carrie Fisher was a bit peeved that the director and Ford did not include her in the discussion. Ford suggested it because he thought it fit Solo better, and he was right.
