21:05 - Players who scout an already scouted location card can still collect either resource shown on the card. The marker simply notes what information was given since it’s not a memory game. Page 16 in the rulebook.
Looks like you're right, not sure if we learned this incorrectly via an old rulebook. Looks like you are absolutely right. We've added the correction to the description of the video. Thanks!
That is correct, but I actually like the decision of only being able to take the other resource, giving away the starfall location, or taking no resource to keep it secret.
34:30 - skimmers CAN be used without an airship and CAN collect starfall. The do not activate the explore spots and do not activate buildings. Rulebook pg. 15.
Awesome gameplay. I think the airship power aspect will certainly contribute to the replayability to the game. I would like to see a review on gameplay of the retail version vs deluxe versions! Seems like the ships and card/piece trays really add a stronge feel to the experience.
Haven’t seen this yet in the comments, so if I missed it, forgive me, but if I’m seeing correctly, Monique skips Naveen’s turn after Michael places a skimmer at the 50:23 mark. Had Naveen taken his turn, he would have placed his third airship first and had choice for turn order instead of Michael. I haven’t watched past this point yet, so I’m not sure if that would have had any considerable impact or not. Such a fun game! Thanks for sharing!
Great finish! I got concerned when Michael implied at the beginning of round 5 that he seemed to be in a "kingmaker" position with Naveen and Monique. Which would have been a serious red flag for me to not buy this game. However, fortunately that didn't turn out to be the case at the end. It may be hard to tell the potential strategies offered with only 1 playthrough, but the early game seems to be kind of dedicated to building up markets and resource gathering otherwise you risk getting run over in later rounds. I'd be very curious to see a contrarian strategy play out. Also, it would be interesting to see how this plays out at 4 or 5 players. I also like the subtle "Stratego"-ish element of selecting a power number for your airships and that they all cannot go over 10 in total; that's a smart bluffing mechanic. Excellent video all around.
With the rule clarification that Skimmers can win Starfall( we played as if they could not), I think the king maker situation I thought I was in would be an extreme rarity. The skimmers make it theoretically possible to win more than just 3 of the last round's Starfalls and thus each player should be able to have a hope of getting however many points they need over the current leader.
what a nice playthrough thx for that , i really enjoy this. What i noticed is that your followers are growing like weed. every week i see more and more people subscribe your channel. congratz on that. you 2 are the best board game channel !!! keep it up
Hey guys! Started watching you after seeing you play DUNE on watch it played. Was just curious about where is SoCal you are from? I am originally from north county san Diego.
You’d be shocked to know that it’s the iPhone 12 (standard not the boujie Pro 😉), with some audio editing to cut down on reverb(echo) and cut some harsh frequencies.
@@BeforeYouPlay oh wow, that is definitely surprising! But amazing, because I like your sound, which is maybe also a credit to your editing work! I may regret having just made the switch from iPhone to Samsung 😅
@@BeforeYouPlay iphone being used in both angles? or the sound pulled from just the one. Love that either way. Proves you can have successful content with just the phone in your pocket
"Skimmers can't win Starfalls". Did that change before production? I can't find that in the rule book. Just that they can be placed like airships, but can't explore or trigger markets & fortresses.
As much as I love your playthroughs. It's frustrating at times when it seems to be Kickstarter content recently. What happened to the Anachrony playthrough?
Hi, we just posted Reykholt, a top 10, Earth, Caverna: Cave vs Cave... so it's definitely not just Kickstarters. We need a balance in order to have a sustaining channel. Without these, there's no channel.
Yeah I don’t know what to say. A lot of people were asked individually to make content for this game. The guys behind IV Games are stellar dudes and our personal friends. We wish them much success in all their endeavors.
@Nature's Finest mostly adds. But now I see every creators posting videos about it. I don't have to watch those tho. But still... most of then are being paid. I feel like I can go nowhere to see a trust worthy critique of the game. They paid everyone lol
@@Gakraemer86 it doesn't look like the game has a single fleshed out direction or a single thing it does particularly well. Bluffing is a fun mechanic as is limited information, but it seems like you can more or less make suboptimal decisions and still stumble into a victory. The inclusion of resource generation seems to be a lazy way to tie area control to limited information, where a simple abstract game would offer a lot more. Why does it look fun to you?
@@bunchycarter8024 I think that the decision to invest in later rounds and more information when placing your ships is an interesting contrast to placing first and obtaining information and the tie breaker. I like that you can strategically place ships in locations you may know you will lose with the benefit of gaining resources. I also like that if you are not investing strongly in resources, and therefore information, you still can make educated guesses on which locations will score if the other players are taking resources while peaking. On the other side of that, is the interesting decision around whether to take resources and provide information, or keep the information to yourself at the cost of a resource. Ultimately, any game with a deck of cards or imperfect information can have people stumble into a victory. For instance, I could draw the perfect card at the perfect time in Terraforming Mars, Ark Nova, Brass Birmingham, Race for the Galaxy etc. It's part of the randomness in games. I don't have a problem with it here.
@@Gakraemer86 Those are games that I have played quite a bit, and where I disagree is that those games have a random component, but in no way can you stumble into a victory. TM is at the lower end of that, but something like Ark Nova isnt going to let you stumble into a victory nearly ever. That all being said, I dont have a problem with random. And I think I described this game to someone as probably a 7 on bgg, played twice, and then never brought up again. I think all the components you mentioned are cool, but ultimately I dont think it looks captivating enough to provide repeated play. There are limited options, limited strategies, and limited objectives. Take a game like Dune or TM or ark nova and you can play them a million times because the game will always be different, essentially because they have infinite options with limited objectives. I don't think I am the authority on what makes a good game though and am happy to have different opinions from people. This one doesn't look like one that I, as someone who loves games like tm or dune or everdell, would find enjoyable.
I think the difference here is that FS’s main focus is trying to drive interaction between the players themselves. Games like TM and ArkNova are more about the individual player and the board itself. So while those games offer more replayability in that the board path changes from game to game, FS is offering replayability in that the decisions the players make affect how the players themselves interact with each other in a tight race. So each session will play differently based on who you play with and what strategies they try each game. There definitely seems to be some defined meta risks meaning it’s likely that early market placements always outweigh early tower placements in terms of value, but the middle rounds of this game seem to consistently create a lot of tension and variability in all the games I’ve seen/played. (Like I think the bYP team demonstrated here) All of IV’s games are focused on player interaction so this design is consistent with their flavor, but I can definitely see if you prefer the euro/engine builder type of game that play a little more like MP solitaire then this would not strike the same chord

Yeah during the last round Michael could have taken the game with a final skimmer placement up in the meadows
The table presence of this game is on the level!
what an incredible ending. Naveen winning without knowing what the objective was, then winning it by turn order which then let him win the game.
Haha - yep, that alone should tell you if this is a game for you or not :)
Really enjoy your content and super excited for this game. That was a tight play through which I very much enjoyed!
Thanks for watching and catching those rules!!
Love the playthrough and the addition of Michael!
Favorite quotes:

"And I know nothing" - Naveen
