Mr. Rushinroulette - Point of fact: Air Force One is the call sign of any USAF aircraft upon which the sitting POTUS is aboard. Trump was in fact on the VC 25A with the tail number 29000. The other plane is NOT Air Force Two. When the sitting POTUS is not aboard, it is known as SAM (Special Air Mission) and then either the tail number, in this case, 28000, or, such other SAM call sign as assigned by the USAF. On this particular mission, tail number 28000 used the call sign SAM 45 in reference to Special Air Mission POTUS 45, which is Trump's number. If Trump departed Zurich on 28000, then it would be AF 1 and 29000 would become SAM 45. If the sitting VPOTUS is aboard, then and only then is it Air Force Two, and he flies on a modified 757.
I was stationed at Andrews when the C-32 (757) arrived to replace the aging VC37's (707's) I remember the first tail number we received was 980002 and then 990003. The primary Presidential aircraft was always 28000, I wonder when they swapped to 29000? SAM FOX Baby!!!
@Nilima Gosavi one is a back up, one is used to train pilots, when one goes to Depot (for major repair, upgrade or paint) there is still another one available. Both are used on an overseas trip in case one has a maintenance problem. The President of the United States is on a strict schedule and a broken airplane looks really bad.

jabber1990 possibly some of the helis were, but the 747s were in USA and flight straight over. some of the prep equipment is more likely at Rammstein though in the weeks ahead of the trip yes.
