I am lactose intolerant but horchata is one of my favorite drinks, I used Almond milk instead of cows milk. It makes it very creamy and adds in that almond essence if you don’t have the almonds on hand. Very yummy! 😋
I just made this with the addition of almonds, vanilla, some soy milk and a quarter can of condensed milk. I accidentally let the rice and cinnamon soak for 23 hours but I have to say, this is the best horchata I’ve ever had! Thanks for sharing!
LOL!! I laughed so hard when you talked about the ice cubes at the end because I live in San Antonio and it's TRUE!! Can't have aguas frescas without ice!!
Have you tried toasting your rice in a dry skillet? That’s what I do in place of almonds when making it for a friend with nut allergies. Gives a very similar nutty/toasty flavor. Definitely an extra step, but worth it!
I made horchata for the first time this week. It is so delicious. I liked your video the best. I also saved and finished cooking the strained rice and I’m glad I didn’t dispose of it! It delicious. Like oatmeal when you pour milk over it.
I did a Mexican food Thanksgiving dinner and made your horchata recipe, with almonds. Everyone said it tasted better than any they’d had in a restaurant. Thank you!
Oh my goodness!! My daughter has 3 bowls of cinnamon toast crunch cereal every day...nope not to eat the cereal...to drink the sweet cinnamon milk!!! I will be making this for her TOMORROW (if i had cinnamon sticks I'd be making it right now) She's 4 and has asked me if i can just make her some cinnamon milk like chocolate milk and i recently looked up some recipes for cinnamon syrup to do that but i think this will be a hit in my house with EVERYONE!! My sister in law makes it once a year and i never end up getting any because it goes so fast but have always wanted to try it SO I SHALL MAKE MY OWN!! thank you so much for sharing this recipe 😊
YUM! Love horchata, but I don't find it in Tennessee, and never knew how to make it. Putting some rice and a cinnamon stick to soak so I can make this in the morning! Thanks!
You mentioned throwing in some almonds, which I did not have, so I used almond milk...sitting here with a big, yummy, ice cold glass this morning. It's better than I remember it tasting! Thanks again!
I’m here in Tennessee and we can find it all over bigger cities that have Hispanic stores. Even got it at a small town Mexican restaurant last weekend.
THANK YOU! Every recipe I’ve found is so inconsistent and overly complicated, I made it for the first time today and added some abuelita chocolate to it, turned out fantastic
Thank you! Do to time, I boiled water before soaking, then followed the rest of the recipe & we got to have it by dinner time. (2 or 2 1/2 hours later) So good. We have decided to incorporate it for Taco Tuesday each week!
Very good, love your remarks, especially when someone tells you it's not part of the recipe. You do a perfect job and you're spot on. BTW, please tell Dax I really enjoyed the video of H2O water slide, he and Bo were so cute. Lovely family.
So I made other videos horchatas that use sweetened condensed milk and all of that and honestly it didn’t taste at all like what I’m used to here at home this was more natural and tasted more close to what I’ve tried so thumbs up to this thanks girl
Yes !! I'm so happy you posted this..my son who is picky just told me he likes this drink , so now I can make it ! Oh btw thats right about Texas we sure do need that ice 😉
My hubby LOVES horchata, I've never made it before but he is going to the store to get the cinnamon sticks for me. I can not wait to try your recipe! Thank you for sharing. I will add another comment later on once I get it made and let you know how it turns out 💗
Great video and you're right who in their right mind would considers ice to not be an ingredient that's so dumb they need to stay in their lane your watermelon juice video was great I just made some this week
I never knew what Horchata was until I went to Washington.I went to Starbucks and I felt so embarrassed asking “What is horchata?” And they looked at me like I was crazy. But I eventually bought the horchata frappe and I love it... I’m from the Pacific island of Guam and everything was so new to me. 😂
I guess there's probably not a lot of Mexican restaurants in Guam, LOL. Just like there's not a lot of Guamese restaurants in the states. I forget the real name for Guamese people.
🤣.. funny!! On a serious note, I Love Horchata!! It's like drinking dessert! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the recipe, and of your Grandfather's too! Cheers!

LOL! @ 5:23 " Well, guess what honey...". Oh my heck! I busted out laughing like a crazy person. Great video, as always, and that sass you have gets me every time. Use all the ice, mija. It's hot. 👍💖
I only heard of this drink because of the song (yes, Vampire Weekend's) and I really wanna make some. It's funny that it's a summer drink because it looks so Christmas-ish ☺️
Ice is an important ingredient!!! Lol. I'm from Houston, and it's hot down here!!! I just finished making this for my boys ❤ they love it! Thanks again for another delicious recipe(:
Ok, in Russia my spanish-speaker friends use for cinnamon, rice, vanilla sugar and almond. For pasta from rice and almond they use metal sieve and after this utilize in sweets with melted chocolate (they also have secret ingredient) it. Sounds strange, but its tasty.

I use lactose free cows milk.
I tried this recipe and it tasted so authentic! It came out perfect! I used two cups almond milk two cups water. Thank you for your videos!
Did you use almond milk for the whole time she added it I want to make some and I’m just wondering?
