Thank you so much for posting this video. Today our GSD of 14 years had repeated failed attempts to walk up the apartment complex stairs, but managed eventually.
We have noticed in the past months some slight balance issues and wobbly walk, then the hesitation of climbing furniture such as sofa or up in the bed. Then slight issues of transitioning from sitting to walking, where in order to walk our GSD needed to drag herself forward until the legs got some momentum/found friction on the floor.
And today it seems to have hit critical mass and all of these symptoms are present at once, especially her inability to place her back paw in the L position (footing), instead dragging the top part of her paw on the floor/walking on the top part.
It is clear as day that it is DM, and me and my spouse are having the discussion of putting her down... It would be easier if she was in miserable pain from cancer and "ending the suffering" would be the obvious choice, but now we have to "pre-emptily" end her life even though the GSD don't realise she is in such fragile state. The GSD seems to have two appointments in her future, a last photoshoot and a visit from the veterinarian (before she loses the ability to walk).
Having worked in hospice for a long time I thought I was going to be ready for our GSD passing, but it just feels emotionally like we are butchering our dearest puppy, while intellectually knowing we are doing it for her quality of life.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are so sorry to hear your pet is going through this, but always recommend you visit a veterinarian as different neurological diseases can often present similarly. Here is more on DM in the meantime: sevneurology.com/blog/degenerative-myelopathy

@@SEVNeurology Thx for the reply, the issues appeared on a Sunday and we put her down the following Wednesday.
We decided it would be cruel to prolong it any longer , the GSD died while still being able to somewhat walk, but noticeably more tired (she could keep up on workouts last autumn ).
Sorry for the lengthy former comment, I was deep in grief trying to process the whole ordeal, thx for doing what you guys do :)

    Can French Bulldogs get DM?

That would be incredibly uncommon. There are other conditions in FBDs that are much more common. But yes, it’s possible.

not painful but definitely stressful for the dogs trying to walk. CANNOT afford an MRI. Outrageous prices. Sooo we live with same symptoms but not DM. Did the test.
