One thing to note, if you're looking at getting the range, you can buy a 20-40$ wifi travel repeater(with a phone power bank) and it will boost the range to a similar level as the sky controller.
Incidentally I have the Bebop 2 and a Shield Portable. For some reason my newer Razer 2 bugs out on the UI trying to get the update process done, and your video reminded me I have another compatible device to try updating with. Booted the Shield, updated the flight app, got the update installed, and now its too dark to try flying and see if it worked XP. None the less, your video has been helpful.
Just because I've seen some comments asking: the original Bebop was also called the Parrot AR Drone 3.0, and - simply - the [Parrot] Bebop. Calling it the "Bebop 1" is fairly recent. Just btw, I picked a factory refurb' (1 year warranty) up in Jan (2017) for $140 USD (pretty much a no brainer purchase).
I completely agree with your use of the shield as that is what I fly with now. Much better than a tablet. The app does need some work and I am waiting for the update that is supposed to be out this month. But I have had some great flights with mine so far. I agree the sky controller is big and I find the shield to be the perfect for mobility. Also for battery life check out my video of the 2500mAh battery from the old ar drone as I am getting 15 min flights out of mine.
Love the drone. Went out last night & bought one & for now i'm controlling it with my Sony Xperia Z3 & w/just my phone she flies up to 300m which is fine indoors but i've also got the Skycontroller that came with it & that extends the Bebops range to 2km. Only downside so far i've found from the drone is the Flight 3 app is a bit buggy & the battery life sucks but hey i'm use to that cuz i've got a GoPro Hero 3 BE which that in itself is a battery eater. Just wish they would've stuck a 4k camera rather then a 1080p but i know the 4k would suck the life out of the drones battery. I've seen online a lot of ppl complain about using the drone via tablet or phone & what they don't realize is on the "normal" settings in the drone it uses the accelerometer in ur phone so unless ur phone/tablet is held at 90 degrees in front of u it's gonna shift left or right, backwards or forwards once u touch the screen cuz that's how u flight it. The joystick & ace modes let u manually control the drone instead of the automatic mode. The other thing ppl don't realize is the range isn't just horizontal it's also vertical so it's best to check out to see if the area u live in has any flight restrictions. Here in Canada i was given a pamphlet when i bought my drone that gave me yes or no questions on a diagram asking which areas i would be flying in, what i was going to use my drone for & how much it weighed. The pamphlet had 4 options & 3 out of 4 of them required me if i needed them to contact my local transportation safety board & either get a special licence or permission to fly due to the max range of the drone since it can fly up to almost 6500 feet up in the air. All in all this drones a hell of a lot of fun & once i get more flights under my belt i hope to program the drone to auto fly so that at the same time i can be driving my RC Monster Truck that's equipped w/my GoPro. Also too u don't need to have a tablet or smart phone when using the skycontroller as i was able to just use an HDMI cable & plug my skycontroller into my 32" tv & i flew my drone around the apartment just looking at my tv :P

Just orders a shield off eBay. Once it gets in and I verify that it's in good working order I'm going to buy a bebop. This all the bad press that drones have been getting lately, I'm thinking it may be best to buy a drone that doesn't look like the stereotypical DJI, white hard plastic, with the legs, the gimbal etc. The bebop is very light, from what I understand... only about a pound. In any case, I'm looking forward to it. Some of the videos I have seen shot from these things are just magnificent. Can't wait to give aerial photography a try.
For this price range, by far the best drone for my collection. When I destroy the one I have, I WILL purchase another! My Note 4 controls this drone very well. The ONLY problem I've had is flying at 2 meters over under ground electric. Took awhile to figure out why it would not respond and it's underground utilities that really mess with it.
You don't need a Shield. An Xbox controller will plug straight in any Android phone. I use the Mad Catz CTRLR which uses BT4 for crazy low latency and it works great with my Parrot drone plus has a bracket for holding the phone.
Parrot bebops are good for beginners. Always remember to calibrate every time you change battery... better off to fly in a large indoor area first,until you get the hang of it. It's best to fly outdoor when its calm sunny day and don't fly it too high up! Bebops are lite,it can easily get carried away by strong wind...RTH(Return To Home) is not accurate,10 to 15 meters way out!!!..
What's the difference with the regular parrot bebop that you can buy on amazon versus the bebop he's using in this video ? I am confused. Is the 3.0 referring to an update ? I thought there were only 2 bebop drones, the Bebop and the Bebop 2. ?
Not sure I want to spend another $200.00 for this but I have to agree the tablet app is a little week.Have only tried my BeBop indoors but it seems to have a mind of its own which kind of scares me taking outdoors. Could do a lot more damage.

+victor chakmakian Well. I can fly really nice with my ar 2.0 and has used it for like 3 years with a few rotor replacements. It was like playing a game to me using touch screen. And i will replace it with this soon because my ar 2.0 is old and i had a major crash because of a fault some months ago. And i also flew it from my computer a few times with my xbox 360 controller and that is just as nice using this shield thing. If i had my logitech pro 3d youstick when my previous drone was stil working i would probably also try that.
Didn't you have to manually map the touch controls on free flight 3? I have a bebop and a shield and both ar drones and the app didnt seem to be mapped to the physical controls like the previous free flight app had been. Is there a way avoid manually assigning the joysticks to the screen etc? Would really appreciate it thanks

There's no place to get the pictured remote for $200 as stated. It's the shield portable. Misleading and wrong info on here. Agree with the thoughts on the drone itself though.

Because a "CPU" is the chip installed on the motherboard inside your PC. Attempting to remove the chip from your PC and ask it to recognize a drone is a pretty large favor to ask of it. Typically, the CPU will require a bit of extra hardware/software before it begins recognizing ANYTHING. Confused yet? Great, now good luck, LOL.
Ford Ivey not about the price it's about the functionality and the parrot bebop isn't far away from the DJI inspire the bebop has really good stabilization like the DJI and the camera is not very far from the DJI.

Im not trying to fly such ranged with my skycontroller too, but I extend the 150 max range and its so much cooler to fly with the skycontroller
The sky controller is only about 50 to 60 dls more than the shield controller and for that amount well worth it.

Make sure your drone is fully updated and use the new WPA2 feature if you want to keep your drone safe!! I got a video of it on my channel.
