While we do not know well enough about this new president, except that he's a disciple of the imprisoned former president, to answer what stance he may take seems a bit premature. So once you have answered the question, the solution naturally comes up: China as a long-term strategic partner as well as a solution provider, will be the most advantageous for Maldives. In that respect, India can in no way compete with China. However, I believe Maldives will maintain a more or less neutral stance not to excite India because India is so close to it. Maldives most probably will maintain a balanced position between India and China. It is too close to India and militarily very vulnerable, making it risky to side with anyone. 7:50 The rivalry stemmed from the border conflict between China & India in 1962. India lost to China, since then India has been the rival on all things regarding to China.
It's clear President Muizzu has the support of Maldivian people rejecting foreign interference in their domestic affairs, especially regional security competition between great powers. Problem for the Muizzu administration is Maldive's 500k population isn't even a rounding error compared with India's strength and power, and it is so close to India geographically, other great powers (US & China) must expand disproportionally high resources to overcome India's geography advantages. I respect the spunk of Muizzu and the Maldivian people to be geopolitically independent, but the tyranny of distance makes it hard for Beijing and Washington to intervene, if New Delhi is serious about overturning the will of Muizzu and the Maldivian people. So the key question is, how does the Modi administration feel about being booted out of an important geographic asset, and is he willing to defy Maldivian sovereignty by refusing to withdraw any or all of India's troops? Previous Indian leaders would leave Maldives when told to go, but I'm not sure about Modi. What will he do?
Indeed, Tony! And given how the economy depends on tourism, it makes more sense for them to cater toward Chinese tourists who happen to be big spenders!! The Maldives not going to see the same outcome with Indian visitors, if ever!!
@@geopoliticaltrends - I recall the last time there were talks of India sending troops to intervene in Maldives domestic affairs, the PRC responded by sailed a DDG past Nicobar Islands in the mouth of the Indian Ocean. India promptly stopped talking about intervening in Maldives. Do you remember something like that?
Maldives has made a wise choice of China as its partner for economic progress. China has the economic power and infrastructure capabilities to provide Maldives to improve the lives of its people.
the vital bridge connecting the 2 parts of the island nation was built by China . They also have other important cooperation on trade n infrastructures development with China.
Maldives need to be good with India because its a giant neighbor to the north and they cannot ignore its presence and influence, however, having Indian military in maldives is a step too far and it is turning maldives to a vassal state. Maldives also need to be good with China since Chinese investments are productive and Chinese tourist form a large percentage of tourist spending in maldives. Tourism is the primary industry of maldives and it can't loose the chinese tourist. India on the other hand have low productive investment. Most of it are delayed or military related investment which won't improve the country's productivity. Maldives should always be neutral and not attempt to play India against China. Maldives need both for its long term prosperity and security. My concern is that India will make Maldives choose diplomatically at first but it can become hot if the next few president won't allow India in.
"The Holocaust exposed the worst and best in mankind. Those who sacrificed their lives to save Jews from a supremacist ideology were the heroes of the day. Holocaust Remembrance means we realize that those who were brutally oppressed in Europe became brutal oppressors themselves in the Middle East in less than one generation. Those who sacrifice their lives to eradicate the supremacist ideology called Zionism are the heroes of today." - Dr Guido Bernelli And now India stands with Zionism ideology.

India has a GDP per capita of $6,100 as of 2020, while in Maldives, the GDP per capita is $13,000 as of 2020. In India, 8.5% of adults are unemployed as of 2017. In Maldives, that number is 2.9% as of 2017.
China is a good ally. It believes in common prosperity, not just for it's citizens but also for the nations of the world. For too long while power resides in the west, nothing much has been done to uplift the poorer nations, often they are colonised and exploited. But now that China has advanced, we can see that it is also helping these nations improve. If history is any indication, China was never hostile or war-like, even when it has the strongest military. China will never impose it's ideologies and politics unto others.. Chinese civilisation believes in mutual respect and mutual prosperity.
Any country would benefit if it rid itself of the Imperial Wests and it's proxies. And if it pick up a country with a win-win policy, it would only help itself.

Simply because when your leader is a wise person that thinks of it people and unlike those corrupted ones.
The new president is thinking about moving his country forward and giving a chance to his people to prosper. He sees that with China instead of India!!
That’s right, or you will end up to be the next Sikkim the country that India stole.
😂😂😂 look who is begging now
Maldives 🇲🇻 is an independent country and is entitled to decide its own destiny and rights.
Indeed!!
Not according to the United Snakes!
People of Maldives want USA regime to stop supporting the apartheid regime.
The president forgot to mentioned there r too many snakes which can b vicious biting the naldivian when roaminh about the corridor when India was involved. The dragon which is heavenly bless can give produced good result then those snakes.
JAYANT BHANDARI IS RIGHT ABOUT INDIA AND INDIANS.
FYI: Trying to bring on the show!!
I talked to a liquor store owner from Nepal two days ago and when I told him he looked like a cross between a Chinese and an Indian he kinda took offense to that! He said there is nothing good about the Indians so don't say he looked like them! He went on to tell me India invaded his country with the help of the British and took large swathes of land from his country and said that Indians can't be trusted with anything, especially when it comes to money!
@@choungchiv2441 As another nepali person, i would say south asia is still an underdeveloped shithole directly as a result of hostile indian foreign policy. India has problems with all its neighbors, and people all over the asia pacific region despise indians for good reason.
oh no Dr. O... India is a world power in their minds. They will throw old dehusked coconuts at you.
India is as delutional as the US. 😂
Or cow-dung 💩😂😂😂
India really needs to come to grip with the reality on the geopolitical landscape!!
The elite is too busy squezing the last wealth out of the poor.
60% of the taxes are paid by the poor.
Which country does the same?
😂 they will save the cow 💩 for themselves... they do eat and bathe in it ! They even drink the cow urine ! This is all factual not kidding !
India wants to lease Maldive island to Uncle Sam for military bases. 😂🤣😆
Wise man...👏
Truly looking for the best for his People.
China is presently, short and midterm, the best commercial partner for any Nation on Earth...
Including Bharat (India) itself.
That's what any good/effective leader would do!!
But India's arrogance put paid to that, tends to side with whoever it deems advantageous, but certainly got it wrong this time.
Interesting. Nice show with deep knowledge of World. Is it coincidence- INDIA IS ENVIOUS! Nicaragua $260 Million Purchase 500 Chinese Bus | But Not Cooperating With India by Insider Project, You tube
India's Jealousy and Inferiority Complex vis a vis China is becoming a problem in terms of their Trustworthiness as a BRICS Partner.
We have to create rules or a code of conduct for ourselves as BRICS that actively discourage our members from AUKUS-ing with GMO- Nations .
You got a point there!!
That means India has used by US. “Shame”. By the way Maldives 🇲🇻has perfect geographical location for controlling the Indian Ocean ships 🚢 trafficking movement 💪🇲🇻🇷🇺🇨🇳🇧🇷👍
As a result of climate change and rising sea levels, countries like China with strong infrastructure capabilities are vital to the survival of Pacific island countries and small Indian Ocean countries.
You made a great point about climate change and its effects on island nations that are going to need China's help more and more to build infrastructures to help combat rising seawater! I haven't thought about that!
China is the place you get the very rich tourist now and in the future and so in business you all way look after your best customers
Get out peaceful community 😋
Another brilliant Video ....10/10
thank you!!
Great news and commentary/analysis!
thank you!!
Maldives new President must put this change in their Constitution as well to ban foreign military in Maldives. This may need a referendum.
Smart move by the new president of Maldives
why is this even news.. its no brainer for the Maldives to side with a luxury ocean liner rather than jump on a sinking rotting dugout canoe..
For any Leader to become independence from US , he or she should not has asset ( dollar & properties) in US.
This is the wisest decision made by a country leader in 2023.
7:50 The rivalry stemmed from the border conflict between China & India in 1962. India lost to China, since then India has been the rival on all things regarding to China.
Great news stand with China !!!
Well presented and factual. This will anger US & her lapdogs 😅
Maldives has made a wise choice of China as its partner for economic progress. China has the economic power and infrastructure capabilities to provide Maldives to improve the lives of its people.
the vital bridge connecting the 2 parts of the island nation was built by China . They also have other important cooperation on trade n infrastructures development with China.
comme toujours merci dr. David
Pas de quoi!!!
What impoverished India wasa doing in Maldives?
👍👍
"The Holocaust exposed the worst and best in mankind. Those who sacrificed their lives to save Jews from a supremacist ideology were the heroes of the day. Holocaust Remembrance means we realize that those who were brutally oppressed in Europe became brutal oppressors themselves in the Middle East in less than one generation. Those who sacrifice their lives to eradicate the supremacist ideology called Zionism are the heroes of today." - Dr Guido Bernelli
And now India stands with Zionism ideology.
LOL--Hinduism is the originator of "Aryan Supremacy'' theory.
What do you think caste system is?
Hitler learnt from the best--hindoos and in turn the now ruling party BJP and organisation behind it--RSS adopted fascism from italy. This is from their own website..SMH!
India has a GDP per capita of $6,100 as of 2020, while in Maldives, the GDP per capita is $13,000 as of 2020. In India, 8.5% of adults are unemployed as of 2017. In Maldives, that number is 2.9% as of 2017.
Game over Indian/India. Your expansionism plans are over
Good in the Maldives.
He seems to be happy that Maldives has told Indian troops to leave the country.Very funny.
Modi should pack up and leave unless you want to be evicted forcefully by the host government. No shame at all
Yes
Always interesting contents.. This news caught me by surprise
I always want to bring info to you/all that I believe will have impact the geopolitical trajectory down the road!!
Thanks for shaing your perspective!!
O really , which country are you from
Any country would benefit if it rid itself of the Imperial Wests and it's proxies. And if it pick up a country with a win-win policy, it would only help itself.
