Nice Scoops Will! Can you do me a favour please? Next time you are in your workshop can you tell me how much room you have between your lathe and the back all where your tools are? Just trying to plan the new workshop lol 😀
Great work William, and a real good way to use up the last bits of wood to save it from the fire or landfill😁 To help save my knuckles from the propeller I use a long tool rest. Put the right hand end just past the bowl and use a bit of coloured tape level with the edge of the bowl and mark the left end level with the handle. Easy to to see the diameter of the piece then and a reminder of the possible danger ⚠️😉
Cheers Michael thanks for popping in for a look, I just cut them freehand down the middle with the bandsaw with a 6tpi blade on, I don't use any jig, now I did mess up one or two at the start 😆 I must make a little jig for a future video, Kind regards From Will 👍
Love the scoops, they are a great use of cuttings from your trees! I know I would buy some at the craft fair : ) Thank you for sharing William. Brilliant job!
Thanks very much for watching, I just cut it freehand down the middle, no jigs, any little saw blade marks get sanded away easily, Kind regards From Will 👍
Thanks very much Mark I appreciate you watching mate, I started my woodturning journey watching UA-cam so I glad to be able to give something back, Kind regards From Will.👍😊
Great idea. two for one. If I tackle this sometime, I will want to make gauges that are calibrated to exact measurements. Now to save up for some spigot jaws. Wishing you a blessed 2025!
Finally, a productive use of all my little cutoffs and the “logs” the grandkids bring me :) Just never thought of using the chuck with one jaw removed. I truly hate making jam checks when there are multiple items that all vary in size.
@William_Kenny I will be getting a lathe in the near future. I'm in the process of buying a new home. After everything is moved and settled in, I'll be looking forward to giving turning a try.
I was searching some videos for learning wood turning, and this thumbnail caught my attention - so I watched. I've now watched several of your other videos and subscribed, but I thought I'd comment on this one. :) As someone interested in learning about this (and also just enjoys watching skilled crafting) I quite appreciate your narrative style, and your ability to put words to the skill you're showing. But, also, as someone who knows more about graphics and video production than I do about wood turning, I also want to say I really like your camera and lighting set up, your production is very clean, and your editing is beautiful, and never gets in the way. I think a lot of people don't appreciate how much effort goes into making production and editing so natural it's invisible during the viewing process. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to watching more. :)
Wow thank you so much I'm glad you like my videos, I always strive to improve on them when I can, I appreciate you watching, subscribing, and for the very positive feedback, wishing you all the best with your turning feel free to reach out if you need any help, Kind regards From Will 👍 😊
Thanks very much. I appreciate you watching, I don't over tighten, and if I use a softer wood, I sometimes place a small leather strip in the jaws, the odd time I do get a little mark but you can sand it away quite easily, Kind regards From Will 👍
@@William_Kenny Hi Will, I've subscribed and will browse your videos over the next few days. I was really impressed with your ingenuity. I suffer with chronic sciatica and can't stand at my lathe for hours as I used too. Smaller projects mean I can carry on turning.
i like watching raw wood pcs turned into something functional! thank you for that.. would be neat to see if you can include the measurement on each of the spoon, if it’s a teaspoon, 1/2, a tablespoon, etc.
Thanks for a great lesson. Excellent use of waste left overs (waste not, want not). How long do you dry your garden pruning off cuts before turning? Cheers
Thanks very much Peter, it usually takes a few years to dry, but it doesn't have to be completely dry because you're turning it small and fairly thin, so after sanding, it's usually perfect, Cheers From Will 👍
A good idea to not show a potential difficulty, and it gets away from showing a possible risk. Some viewers might slavishly follow something they see a skilled worker do, and not fully understand where any danger element might lie.
Thanks for a new way to use stuff that has little value as firewood and that will provide me with a new spindle challenge, I like the idea of using a chuck to hold the scoops instead of countless jam chucks cheers and thanks from down under
