Someone should do a ‘Then and Now’ shots of these streets.
I lived there from 1962 to 1965 and by then, there were very few traces of the war years left.
@freebeerfordworkers They should have applied that energy to the countries they invaded first...!
I would have imagined that would have been the case in the Western Sectors, I remember visiting the East Sector around 1985 and some of it was still run down
@@woodenseagull1899- and it is that kind of foolish thought held in 1919, that led to a second Great War which rent Europe and the world just over 20 years later; it’s said that those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it……….
I was born there in 1948, and there was plenty till the late 50s. We used to play in the flattened ruins (where I nearly broke my leg), found parts of weapons, burnt big heaps of christmas trees at new years eve and saw cheap outdoor films on the housewall leftovers from bombing. 62, the year after the Berlin Wall was built and Peter Fechter had died in his blood at the banks of the river Spree, bc noone from Berlin/East came to help and noone from the West dared to, bc they were threatened with machine pistols from the eastern border troops. Also the year of the Kuba crisis…
9:22 Selling medals for cigarettes . Cigarettes was standard currency in that days.
Berlin less then 24monrhs after WW2 and everyone is dressed classy and streets are relatively clean alot better then most US cities 2023.⬅️fact
did we see the same video? streets aren't clean, everyone lost someone, scowls on faces, clothes that haven't been washed for weeks. Turns out, the grass isn't greener on the other side. Don't like the US? Then leave.
The Berliners look cleaner and richer than the British in 1947……..Britain was such a dirty hovel by comparison to Germany
Berlin is still a horrible, dank, miserable grey concrete jungle.
@@doug6500 Modern day GERMANY is Soulness, ridged, humourless and self entitled. Their contribution to the human race is the huge number of Cemeteries across Europe...!
@@doug6500 - Nonsense...Today it is a wonderful, modern, futuristic city, so full of life and with such an international environment. I love Berlin.
@@lindaatkinson3962 International environment, you mean overrun by POCs. Germans lost everything.
Yeah because the western allies pumped millions into reconstruction leaving our own working class areas derelict...read a book!
Beginnings of prosperity are there already.
And with original audio, too. Quite a rare catch.
Немцы решили забыть войну и начали восстанавливать берлин, чтобы очистить себя от скверны войны!
Comrade, can you blame them.Germans are an amazing folk and Russians as well.
Germans looked too clean and sporty.....needed to still be a bit more humble.
Take a look at the city of Dresden horrible site needs a lot of rebuilding
