It's so fun and exciting to see other people on a similar journey. We bought our house in Chile without ever seeing it up close, it was across the fence from the property we wanted to by. As we were in the process of purchasing our attorney discovered that the house was technically a part of the deed and the owner had 2 options. He could spend several months trying to separate it from the land we were buying or he could reposses it from the neighbor he had "sold" it to. The neighbor had never paid him. For the price of the land around the house per hectar we bought the house for about $1500 USD. We viewed it the day with the previous owners the day we bought it, after we paid! This is beautiful and actually made me cry. I'm ten years into my dreaming but I wont give up. You have given me an inspirational boost. Thank you for sharing and good luck on your new path
That was a fabulous video, what a great story. And yes, I would and did buy a house without seeing it. Also in lockdown, in 2020 with my husband. We found a lovely wee house in France and bought it from New Zealand. It was a year until we could get there, and I felt just as you described when approaching your house for the first time, completely emotional! Good luck , I can’t wait to see your renovation x
How wonderful. There are quite a few of us then… you are right, seeing it in reality is just how I imagined it, and there is an immediate emotional connection when it’s right. Wishing you much happiness in your new home. 😊🏡❤️
This is so beautiful ... you literally manifested this life 25 years ago and here it is :) what a place absolute seclusion My Mum lives an hour outside Cork City near Tipp. Kerry is theeee most stunning area :) look forward to seeing the other videos.
That’s exactly how I see it and would urge anyone reading this to hold the dream… keep visualising it and be specific about exactly what your ideal life looks like, and you will manifest it for yourself! There’s footage of Cork coming up so watch this space. Thanks for subscribing, I’ve given you a sub too! 😃🙏❤️
Ah I’m so pleased to hear that. So sorry for your loss, being a single mum is hard. A house in the woods sounds wonderful. hope life brings you gentle blessings and unexpected joy. 😊🤍
I bought a house in the city where we both grew up early 2022 without viewing it. Saw a video from estate agent t and my brother in law went to view it for us. He said the house (about 130 years old) seemed in sound condition so we put in an offer and it was accepted. About one month later had the keys and never looked back. We love it. Future semi retirement home in Dublin. Living in Spain past 20 years.
Absolutely. We couldn’t wish for anything more. We have plans to extend and modernise internally but at the same time honouring the soul of the dwelling. 😊🏡🌲

What a beautiful story, Jill. Truly. I got chills when you discussed how you'd felt upon arrival- how the house had been waiting for you, the trees standing watch. Thrilling. Thanks for sharing!
My little house waited 100 yrs for me…passed it on the road travelling south many times but never noticed it. It sat on the market for 5 yrs still waiting for me…that’s how I feel too, I’ve come home.
What a lovely video, I loved the story of the hidden house and the little dolls. Looking foward to watching all the changes etc that you will make, what an exciting adventure.😊
Oh wow! I love this and loved the story book. I live in a city in Australia but long to live in a cottage in the country or especially by the sea. I’m subscribing to watch your journey.
It's lovely!! I can fully see the potential beneath the dust and dirt that has accumulated through the years. The house itself appears to be in decent shape all things considered. Best of luck with the restoration. I too have been considering getting a property in Ireland as well as I have loads of family over.
You have an amazing story to tell. Transformative and rebirth. Always remember the "big picture" and mind your familial relationship and dont sweat the little stuff and the naysayers.
Very envious. What an exciting journey. It’s been my dream to have a homestead but I’m still in suburbia. I have a large allotment so I’m making the best of it. Good luck! Amanda
Lovely house , good bones, fantastic setting. The stove is lovely , there is an exact same one in my grandmothers house ,and it is still going strong . Best of luck with the house.
Thank you. It is a lovely stove but unfortunately way past saving. We will be using the current house as the sleeping quarters so the stove would need to be removed from the original place anyhow. There will be an extension to the rear where the living quarters will be, on the site of the original old that he’s house. I show the plans on the next video about the trees ‘I’m sorry - they had to go’.
I adored your video it's something we've longed to do for a long time. My husbands father came from Cork, however his birth certificate showed that his mother, for some unknown reason had registered him under her maiden name on the birth certificate and so he has no proof and hence cannot reside in S Ireland. I really look forward to following your journey. Your lovely little house will be beautiful.
What a beautiful story soo far. I absolutely love it. Your part and the comparison with that that book, which must be amazing! And it was like a prophecy for you, wow! And it seems a very blessed place from a very religious person. I hope you will tell the story of whoever had lived there. I know exactly what you mean! We bought a wooden "barn" with lots of land around it just after the last lockdown. It sat empty for more than 20 years and was still in an extremely good condition. As it had no doors, the estate agent had just "just go in and have a look". Despite swallows living in it and apparently sheep visitors there wasn't much damage done. It is more a wooden house than a barn, as it was designed and built with excellent craftsmanship - with astonishing views of Bantry Bay, and a 'famous' mountain in the back, after which a novel from Daphne de Maurier was named. The decision fell instantly, after a few minutes we made an offer, and a short time later we became the stewarts of that wonderful piece of land. We want to protect it from "development", from monocultures (plantations of Sitka spruces aren't a living organism called forest), from overgrazing. We want to just let it be, to let nature do its job, just do some gentle "corrections", so that the soil can continue to heal and diversity can reestablish itself - apparently it was grazed heavily before the eighties. Similar to you we discovered interesting items like such a plastic milk bottle dated from around 1999, and seed envelopes (still filled) dating back to 2001). Later we learnt, that the place had been blessed by quite a famous Tibetan lama, we got faded, blurred photos from that little ceremony. I am looking forward to your own story of YOUR hidden house. All the best for this transformation - into your true home. Cheers from West Cork just by the Kerry border.
Ooh how wonderful. We have some tree vouchers to spend at a nursery near Bantry Bay. Do keep in touch, I’d love to hear more especially regarding your re-wilding project.
I used to read The Hidden House to my kids, now grown men. It made a big impression. And I bought, and am settled, in a hidden house in Co. Galway (though I did see if first).
I wonder if Martin Waddell realised much his book would touch people’s hearts. It’s a perennial charming story of how a dwelling will evolve for each new generation. County Galway is a beautiful part of Ireland too I believe. 😊❤️☘️
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland Bless you these things are sent to try us my lovely, I've subscribed to your channel today gives us hope so inspiring so Thank you ☘
Absolutely! I’m afraid the stove is rusted and falling apart - beyond repair. But the current house will be the sleeping quarters so the chimney will be coming out. 😊
That’s a shame. Perhaps you could consider a more modern one. They cook so well and throw out a lot of heat. Good look, I’ll keep watching to see how you go, all the way from Oz.
Hi Susan, I know Hull and Fleetwood well as my Dad grew up there and we visited grandparents at Skidby just outside Hull. Thanks for following our journey! 😊🙌❤️
Do you know the Bealtaine Cottage UA-cam channel? Colette is in Co Roscommon and has 3 acres. She has planted trees and has reclaimed the land thereby. It is a pity your house is in the middle of a Sitka desert but if you plant trees you can start to heal the land. All the best.
Yes, somebody pointed us in her direction the other day. She’s fabulous, and such an inspiration. We definitely want to introduce permaculture in the way she has and create a meadow where the rushes have overgrown. Noel is a qualified beekeeper also and in due course we’ll be keeping bees. I’m so excited about the future that I can run away with myself! 😊🙌❤️
As I see the wee statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Ste. Therese, the Holy Infant of Prague as well as the Sacred Heart of Jesus picture, I can almost assure you that a whole lot of praying happened there. I wish you all the best! 🤗
You’re right, and having got to know a neighbour who’s mother was born there and has childhood memories of the place, I can confirm that was the case! 😊🙏❤️
Some (important) things in your life are predestined, and you get a first glimpse of them many years or (more often) decades before they are manifested... in a book you read as a child or a figurine you bought, images you have cherished and kept for half your life - until one day you realize this is IT...
Hello and welcome to Ireland very sorry to here some of the headaches the garage should have offered you a car or van you should invest in a wheel barrow and a couple of cube tanks for storing water they hold 1000 litres rain water collection 🙂 get some fire putty i would restore the stove love your videos the digger man did a brilliant job on the drive using tram and the ditch looks kool
The music is very repetitive and distracting. Ur voice is much more enchanting. The music takes away from ur soothing story and video. I would omit it for gaining more viewers who would also find it distracting. It’s a lovely video. I’d pan a little slower on the interesting parts. Others find things interesting that u might not, like the cupboard filled with dishes. It makes one wonder who the original dwellers were. Maybe something softer like “Enya” would as music that doesn’t need a copyright, but the music u used is like repetitive musack…Ur video is too good for cheesy sounds.
@@janefinlaw2977 Ah, wonderful. They must have uploaded footage from when they met Noel. How lovely of them. Welcome Jane. You’ve come at the right time, we’re just getting started. 😊🙌
I think you’re referring to the part of the video where I show footage sent to us by our friend in Ireland. I have no control over this historic footage which was not originally made with YT in mind. We were just so thankful they could visit on our behalf.
Congrettiolations with buying this house this is going to be a intresting time for you It looks really nice and a wonderful spot to But keep in mind that 6 acers is a lot of land to keep up to And the house 😅I wish you good luck and hope you wil be sitting by the fireplace one day and think this was all worth te evert xxx
Wonderful looking forward to more.. let me ask you to pan the camera slower, have pauses and not everything should be so closeup.. check out Bealtaine Cottage.. Colette is a master with her camera of sharing her three acres in west Ireland..
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland yeah isnt she great! I mean her camera style, she is generous with the time she takes that allows you to fully share her experience...and she hardly edits.. both footages were a bit hurried.. the interior of the house was hard not to be a bit dizzy and couldn't get a sense of the room when the camera is so closeup though occasional close ups are great..
No no regrets, we heard about one which we were in about 10 years, the other I gave a list to a family friend , we pray she would be guided to to right home for us and we are here 11 years later, no plans to move yet .
@@jjb8171 it does have foundations. as it was built in 1935. Our structural engineer has examined a test hole we dug in the kitchen. These will need to be certified by building regs of course.
No, we have a legal right of way. But the forestry commission don’t own the road anyhow. It’s owned privately by a herdsman/landowner who has become a good friend. He can’t be helpful enough. If the ownership ever changes hands we still have a legal right of access. The forestry commission have their own fire break paths which they will use when felling patches of trees.
I am also keen to move to a rural location in Ireland, but have been told that British newcomers are not at all welcome. Is there truth in this or should we go for it?
Great question. I honestly think that it all depends on the attitude, ie NOT having an attitude of entitlement that is part of the psyche of the British colonial past. At first, I think perhaps locals (tradesmen Noel interacted with when he was here alone at the very beginning) were perhaps wary of him and were polite but a bit distant. As we’ve worked with the same team and they’ve got to know us it’s changed. They were perhaps just weighing us up in the beginning. Maybe they expected we would be using it as a holiday home with no intention of living here full time or integrating into the community. Showing an interest in learning about the place, people, customs and traditions is respectful… rather than wanting to import one’s own culture. For example I wouldn’t want to just hang out with ‘ex-pats’. I feel uncomfortable with any language that identifies us in different tribes and thereby separates us. Ireland has had enough of that in the past. I recognise that Ireland is a very spiritual place. Our materialistic mindset of buying up and owning things (land/property) can be insensitive and inappropriate. Like I say I tread lightly. I feel very lucky to be here and am always grateful when I receive a friendly welcome. I’ve yet to experience any hostility or frostiness. Maybe I will in time because my accent is so strong and obvious. When I do, I won’t take it personally because I totally get it, for all the reasons indicated above. Sermon over! 🤣☘️❤️
Thank you for your time and insight, its good to hear your experience has been favourable. I completely agree with all you say, and wouldn't behave any other way. My folks enjoyed their retirement in Brittany, they made the effort to speak French, get involved and made many friends. We are Cornish, so there's already an element of kinship there due to close Celtic connections. I hope that might also be the case in Ireland. Back in the 90's I spent a week in Mayo with my then American girlfriend and her her local Irish friend. I absolutely loved the place, like a giant Cornwall without the people, whats there not to like? I hope your adventure continues without too many unexpected budget-busting developments, although that always adds to the drama! Good luck and thank you, I shall keep watching.
@@chrisdstard5644 So funny you should say that Chris, we have lived in Cornwall for the last 8 years and in that time it’s got busier and more crowded with lots of second homes. The landscape in Kerry is similar to Cornwall but fewer cars on the road. Whereabouts in Cornwall are you?
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland Yes, it certainly has become much busier. Im from Falmouth, but its changed since the University came to town so I now live on the north coast near St Agnes. Penzance is probably my favourite town, but it's like camper van city in summer! Its ironic that people are slowly destroying the very thing they've come to enjoy.
@@chrisdstard5644 I entirely agree. We took a day trip to St Agnes when my family came to visit. You’re in a pretty spot. All the best with your future plans Chris. Keep us posted! 😊👍❤️
Did you almost expect to see dolls there? I had a few dolls when I was young, but they were special because my grandfather gave me one and my mother made the other and my great grandmother made one. My mother also made Kanga and Roo, who sat on my bed, but the dolls sat safely on a shelf. I passed them on to my children but all of my grandchildren are boys. Part of me would like to go into their boxes and send them to you but I suspect they will be missed when a great granddaughter comes along some day. The oldest is only 22 and though he would like to see a girl, he vows he will never have children. We’ll see. There are quite a few antique dolls in the family, my mother being one of 8 girls and so I wonder if your daughter is still young enough to enjoy dolls? Such an odd, random thought after a 12 minute video but now I feel that a few dolls should be back there again. :::::shrug::::: feeling foolish, now, and with children there, you might have quite a few dolls already enjoying the house and the air and the laughter in the house once more. Great video and great to have another great old house being spiffed up once more. The last adventure was a great little house on the Isle of Skye. So I shall press the bell and await another video, press the like button as I surely did (enough to make a fool of myself) and check for more videos. It has been 3 weeks, after all, and maybe you are taking steps to move everything to your new old house? Exciting days and congratulations!

They certainly were religious and we plan to honour that with a sacred heart light, possibly in the entrance porch. I’ll be looking for a modern version of it though. 😊🙏✨
I would save all those tiny trinkets as an homage to the prior residents who made this place possible. I was surprised to breezed passed the cupboard filled with unusual items since it seems u appreciated the other trinkets on the plate. Fun stuff tho… 🫶💫

Amazing story and you are a wonderful storyteller wow! I wish you love joy and a happy home! Exceptional adventure. Every blessing.
Good luck with all the work. Can't wait to see your progress!
Thank you Karina. Welcome on board. 😊🙌❤️
What a lovely video, I loved the story of the hidden house and the little dolls. Looking foward to watching all the changes etc that you will make, what an exciting adventure.😊
Thank you so much Sarah. Lovely to have you join us on our journey. Welcome! 🙌❤
What a magical journey you are on, all because of a sweet story book of a once loved home needing to be found and loved again❣️So exciting❣️❣️🌸🌸🌸
It struck a chord all those years ago… maybe our lives do have a blueprint that unfolds…😊❤️🙏
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland I agree lol
I had and still have that book, and I love the story...it's so magical!
Looking forward to follow your journey with you!
It’s my favourite book of all time! 😊
Oh wow! I love this and loved the story book. I live in a city in Australia but long to live in a cottage in the country or especially by the sea. I’m subscribing to watch your journey.
Great to have you on board and thanks for subscribing. 😃🙌❤️
It's lovely!! I can fully see the potential beneath the dust and dirt that has accumulated through the years. The house itself appears to be in decent shape all things considered. Best of luck with the restoration. I too have been considering getting a property in Ireland as well as I have loads of family over.
Thank you so much. 😊❤️
You have an amazing story to tell. Transformative and rebirth. Always remember the "big picture" and mind your familial relationship and dont sweat the little stuff and the naysayers.
Thank you so much Jack! 😊🙌❤️
You just popped up in my feed. Have looked at a few places in Ireland but the time isn’t quite right yet. Now I can watch and hope and wait.
Absolutely, at the right time the house will find you! 😊👍☘️
Very envious. What an exciting journey. It’s been my dream to have a homestead but I’m still in suburbia. I have a large allotment so I’m making the best of it. Good luck! Amanda
Thanks so much Amanda. Allotments are great. We’ve had one for 5 years… as practice for the homestead! Hope you get yours one day. 😊🙌
Blessings to you all in your new adventure.
Thank you so much 😊❤️🙏
Lovely house , good bones, fantastic setting.
Congratulations! A magical find and love the storytelling quality of your vlog. Its charming!
What a delightful comment. Thank you for your kind words. 😊🙌❤️
Omg your story is so similar to mine! Delighted to find you!
Like attracts like lol. Welcome! And do tell me more… x
I hope you are able to achieve your dream too. Thanks for your kind comment and for the follow. ❤️
How exciting ❤ the cottage congratulations on your new home.
Thank you 😊
What a beautiful story soo far.
❤ lovely story... 🙏
Thanks Sarrah
I came across this and I am so thrilled what a wonderful adventure I can't wait to see your journey . Thank you 😊
What a delightful comment. You made my day… and I’m so glad you’re here to join us! 😃🙌😊🙏❤️
What a magical true story!
Everyone can have their own fairytale to tell! 🙌😊❤️
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland it is indeed. Sending good wishes for your adventure.
Very similar story we are going through right now!
Fell in love with a French house…
Buying it unseen
Good luck! 🙌
Oh, we had this book too when my kids were small :-)
I read it to both my children. 😊
💚Congratulations of your Dreams coming true,Such a Magical place...with you all every step..So exited 💚x

Totally charming video!
Thank you 😊
Oh my goodness, what an amazing story! ❤❤❤❤
A place with memories waiting for you to add to them. Those stoves are very good if you can get it going again. It will bring the house back to life!
I love the story at the beginning of the video. Looking forward to your venture, best wishes from Susan in East Yorkshire.
Hi Susan, I know Hull and Fleetwood well as my Dad grew up there and we visited grandparents at Skidby just outside Hull. Thanks for following our journey! 😊🙌❤️
Am fair looking forward to following your journey I your wee house..from Lesley in cummertrees in Scotland. Xx
Welcome Lesley… we share first names! 😊🙌❤️
How wonderful that you followed your dream .❤
thankyou. A joy. did have to stop watching as feeling sea sick though with the camera close and moving..
👍🤣
Me too, but love your story.
I wish all the best on this journey and I look forward to going along with you.
Glad to have you here Jean, and thank you for your well-wishes. 😊🙏🏡
What a dream come true!🤗 I envy you. Congratulations 👏.!!!
This just made my heart swell.
Ah thank you. I just know it was meant to be, and spending time here brings so many confirmations of this. 😊🏡❤️
I bought a class c rv without seeing it. It will be my home for the rest of the summer while I work on my tiny house.
A tiny house - how exciting that sounds. 😃🙌❤️
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland Yeah it would be even more exciting if I could find a place to park it.
Some (important) things in your life are predestined, and you get a first glimpse of them many years or (more often) decades before they are manifested... in a book you read as a child or a figurine you bought, images you have cherished and kept for half your life - until one day you realize this is IT...
So true… has this been your experience also Diane?
Awesome!👍😎🇨🇦
Hi. Just found your channel, what a lovely story in that book. Just subscribed and looking forward to joining you on your new journey x
Wonderful, and welcome aboard! 😃🙌❤️
What a lovely story.

Good story but the whispering voices are irritating...sorry saying it as I feel it...Just speak in a normal tone and it would be appreciated...
Lol. You get annoyed at just a voice?
@@bridgwll yes, It doesn't sound normal and or natural...
The property is beautiful.
Thank you. 😊❤️
Genius Loci - Congratulations 👏
It truly is - thank you 🙏
The music is very repetitive and distracting.
Thanks for your feedback. 🙌
Magical.
West cork wonders sent me😊
@@janefinlaw2977 Ah, wonderful. They must have uploaded footage from when they met Noel. How lovely of them. Welcome Jane. You’ve come at the right time, we’re just getting started. 😊🙌
Congratulations on starting a channel!
Pleeeze move the camera around slowly so as not to induce dizziness. 😂
I think you’re referring to the part of the video where I show footage sent to us by our friend in Ireland. I have no control over this historic footage which was not originally made with YT in mind. We were just so thankful they could visit on our behalf.
Agree, the film inside the house especially.
I just bid on one I didnt see then later in the day saw it from the outside
Congrettiolations with buying this house this is going to be a intresting time for you It looks really nice and a wonderful spot to But keep in mind that 6 acers is a lot of land to keep up to And the house 😅I wish you good luck and hope you wil be sitting by the fireplace one day and think this was all worth te evert xxx
Thank you. It will be our life’s work herein. 😊
Wonderful looking forward to more.. let me ask you to pan the camera slower, have pauses and not everything should be so closeup.. check out Bealtaine Cottage.. Colette is a master with her camera of sharing her three acres in west Ireland..
I love Colette! I think you may be referring to the footage of the original viewing?
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland yeah isnt she great! I mean her camera style, she is generous with the time she takes that allows you to fully share her experience...and she hardly edits.. both footages were a bit hurried.. the interior of the house was hard not to be a bit dizzy and couldn't get a sense of the room when the camera is so closeup though occasional close ups are great..
What website did u see this house on or how did u find this little gem, would love some info, best of luck to u both❤
Thank you. We signed up to Daft.ie which sent newly-listed properties to our inbox. 😊
Thank you for the video! Did you get rid of the cooker? Or clean it up?
Unfortunately it was badly rusted, broken and beyond repair Pat.
@@TheHiddenHouseIreland okay, thank you for the reply!
We’ve bought two of our homes without seeing them 😊
Oh my, you must have a strong intuitive sense. Did you have any regrets?
No no regrets, we heard about one which we were in about 10 years, the other I gave a list to a family friend , we pray she would be guided to to right home for us and we are here 11 years later, no plans to move yet .
I bought a house all by myself. With my husband. That sounded rather odd.
I would be a tad bit concerned about the trees being so close to the house,, will the roots of those trees be damaging to the foundations??
You need to watch the video Vlog #3! 😊👍🌲
You think it has foundations? 😅
@@jjb8171 it does have foundations. as it was built in 1935. Our structural engineer has examined a test hole we dug in the kitchen. These will need to be certified by building regs of course.
Will the forestry service ever cut off access to your home?
No, we have a legal right of way. But the forestry commission don’t own the road anyhow. It’s owned privately by a herdsman/landowner who has become a good friend. He can’t be helpful enough. If the ownership ever changes hands we still have a legal right of access. The forestry commission have their own fire break paths which they will use when felling patches of trees.
Great Bones

I would save all those tiny trinkets as an homage to the prior residents who made this place possible. I was surprised to breezed passed the cupboard filled with unusual items since it seems u appreciated the other trinkets on the plate. Fun stuff tho… 🫶💫
