Kraftwerks original sounds were so experimental that even today it’s hard to recreate them. But I’m glad to see this tribute to Kraftwerk. It made me smile
You can recreate them, 99%, without sampling in mind of course, but you need to know how to recreate (choosing appropriate synthesiser) and program sound. And this takes time.
Also: Programming modular synths, like is, haven’t changed much at all? You still need lot of wires to plug and lot of screws to ehm ”screw”until you get any sound out of them. Though that one also has keyboard in it, that is - i suppose - no-no for analog purists?
Pink Floyd’s “time” clocks and “money”’registers where all done manually to get the sound in synch. Today you can do it on your phone while on a toilet.

Except that's a generalization and not true: What didn't exist and had to be built was an electronic drum kit that could be played live. The electronic magazines of the time were full of circuit diagrams for simple drum sound generators and they had to make something like that. For everything else their initial difficulty was more in obtaining the scarce and expensive instruments. Their works also document the evolution of their equipment from electronically processed natural instruments to increasingly complex synthesizers.

Finally some real music on this thing, instead of mere experimental noisy short sequences, a synth like this has Kraftwerk written all over it, like almost it was designed for this style of music. Multi tracking really lets it shine, to its bigger potential...i would like to hear more Kraftwerk covers on it, like 'computer-love' or 'home computer' and of course 'radio-activity' :)...

I believe he is using a talkbox of some kind, whereas Kraftwerk used an actual vocoder, which was crazy expensive in the day. Vocoders do not require a tube. Actually he might be miming with the tube, usually a microphone is involved :)
I once ran into a Matrixbrute in a shop. I knew nothing about it and had previously only briefly glanced uppon a picture of one. When I started playing it I just couldn't believe such an extensive synthesizer to be monophonic.

I like the title 'How to be A Kraftwerk' - you hit the nail on the head my friend, with Kraftwerk being a single cybernetic entity (and the coolest thing to come out Germany since saurkraut)
not bad! but the musician is moving around too much, and displaying far too much emotion. the real kraftwerk guys would be apalled by this drama queen. get control of yourself and be stoic, like a real robot.
And as a precision-engineered German, I am appalled (in the most logical possible way) by the excessive emotion exhibited by the Kraftwerk guys. Their lack of discipline and self-control make that hysterical emo Mr. Spock look like a full-blooded Vulcan in comparison. Their synthesizer and Autobahn privileges are hereby revoked until they can demonstrate absolute stoicism in their programming. End of line.
I bought Computer World on vinyl when it first came out. (How many people do you know can say that?) I was considered a bit of a nerd for doing so back then. I even had to keep it a secret from my friends, because most of them never heard of Kraftwerk , let alone a computer! Everyone was still typing on typewriters! It’s the most prophetic album of all time. Anyway, great work on this video!
1st Vinyl 12" I bought [from Woolies in UK] was TD's Rubycon - in about 1975! A year later punk exploded here but like you I had to keep my passion for the electronic to myself most of the time especially as I was in a punk band. I tried to introduce self made oscillators into some of the tracks and was totally slagged off! You can then imagine how utterly brilliant it was when Gary Numan hit the screens on TOTP with Are Friends Electric in 79 and I'm like 'told you so...'

This is the closest I've heard anyone come to recreating this song perfectly... and with one synth that's just even more impressive
Nicely done! Been a big fan of Kraftwerk since I was 14 (now 52!) and I saw them live in Brixton in 1991. Great version, loved every second!
