There are a lot of disappointed people who think full sun means ... FULL SUN. Therefore I think the plant tags on all these hydrangeas need to be more descriptive, such as zone 2-7 zones 5-7 plant in afternoon shade. I would hate to see any hydrangea in FULL sun in my Missouri summer sun... maybe a cactus lol

Steph when my day lilys start looking ratty I just cut them down. Some times harshly with a weed wacker or mower. They spring right back and look new like an ornamental grass.

I’m fascinated by that idea. My yellow day lillies are just done blooming and I have a wonderful hedge of the on the back side of my oak tree with proven winner begonias in front with a little grouping of mini hostas right around the tree. But it takes quite awhile to go in and clean them all up. It looks really nice but if you can simply cut them down and have them flush back that seems much easier

Hi Steph, I'm trying to decide on a compact hydrangea against my greenhouse, which will directly face a hedge of little lime hydrangeas. I thought about the Wee White, but worried now about them getting fried on a northeast side. The little limes are happy getting full sun. How are you liking the Firelight Tidbit hydrangeas a year later? I was just wondering if having two beds of panicles facing each other would be too repetitive? I also plan to plant Rozanne hardy geraniums in front of the hydrangeas for color.

Hi Holly! I usually prune my little limes end of winter beginning of spring. So sometimes in March, usually. I mostly prune off all of the real twiggy growth that couldn't support the weight of those big bloom heads. I think they take some time to firm up and become stronger, the stems. But Over time it should get less floppy as the shrub grows and ages. With that said, even though my little limes are over 3 years in ground now, I still get some flopping with heavy rains. The blooms are so large that they hold on to lots of water, and so once they become weighted down, they hang low. After it rains you can gently shake off some of the excess water, and as they shrub dries, most of the hanging branches start to perk up again. Getting enough sun can also help them stay more upright, and hydrangeas in general like water. Are yours getting enough water during those warm temps? They could be drooping from heat too. Some things to consider. Hope this helps.

Did you replant the wee whites somewhere with more shade?

Are you keeping the hydrangeas you took out?

Hi Liz, I wasn't sure where to put them as I dont have much shade yet. I also didnt want them to potentially get to stressed waiting in the gorilla cart, so I gave them to a gardener friend for her garden.

Another reason your wee whites look like that is too much water. They need to dry out completely
