Good morning Jenny! We finally have a storm rolling through. It only brought 2 tenths of an inch this far, but it was a downpour and my poor Anabelle hydrangeas are now on the ground. Soccer ball size blooms on them this year and boy do they hold onto the water! I took pictures of them last night because I figured I would have to trim them back after the storm.
By far, the best tour of hydrangeas I have seen! So helpful to see these growing in the landscape. I'm going to bookmark this as a great reference for future use! Thanks so much!
Great tour and SO much wonderful information! I bought a very small PW hydrangea on clearance a couple years ago… no tag and it was the only one. Based on your video, I’m really thinking it might be a Quick Fire. Will definitely pay more attention this year as it’s budding up now so hopefully it will be easier to identify.
That was a great tutorial on the different hydrangeas. I have 3 Little Quick Fires and love them. I’m going to look for Pufferfish next! Thanks so much! Zone 3 🇨🇦
I love all the hydrangeas. I have 3 Limetta Invincible on the eastern side of my house, and they do very well there. I also have 3 Little Limes on the North Side in part Sun/part shade and they are doing great as well. Hydrangea definitely benefit from protect from the full hot sun.
I wish I could send you a photo of my quick fire hydrangea. I planted it at the corner of my porch. It receives sun from Noon to about 3pm. My porch is four foot off the ground and the hydrangea almost touches my spouting. It’s well over 8 feet in width. Since my porch ceiling is 7 feet and the floor 4 feet off the ground I’d say it’s a good 9 feet in height. She is just loaded this year! I wish I knew how to trim on her in the early years. I also wish I would have stepped her out about 3 feet more from the porch. Because I believe she would be 10’ by 10’ and just as happy as a clam. Making and absolutely beautiful presentation of herself standing alone. I planted her in 2011. I also had planted a Annabelle along my driveway. Just one plant. And it spread and covers the entire length of a 20 foot corner of the flower bed that runs about 100 feet along the property line down the side of my driveway. It covers a great swath of garden approximately 20 feet long and 8 feet wide. She went from a one plant habit to a bunch of individual sticks that sprout up every year. In the beginning the follow spring I had pulled out some of those twig sprouts.. Then realized one had a small hydrangea leaf on it. So I let them go. So glad I did. Some of the flowers get as big as basket balls. So beautiful. I have to admit my three other hydrangea’s struggled then I started watching Laura then she introduced you on her video and through watching I realized I need to cut them back. Now….they are beautiful. I also planted a Nikki blue hydrangea that sent out a runner and moved itself forward in my back flower bed. I though oh great that is going to be awesome another plant. Then the next spring I noticed that I could wiggle the base of the older plant and it just pulled out of the ground. I was sick about it. Then as spring moved on I realized the shoot was growing with vigor. It actually moved itself about 2 feet forward and has never done this again!!!!! My quick fire has also sent out a shoot last summer and I have a small new plant and it will bloom this year. I am going to move that one since it has sprouted up very close to the porch lattice. It can not stay in its spot from the vigor of the parent plant. Which by the way is like a small tree or and over grown rhododendron habit. I’m so glad Laura introduced you on her platform. I’ve learned so much from you both. However, I’m your on my side of the country. My growing zone is a 6b. Therefore, I can benefit from you both. So fun. Thank you Jenny! I can not express how much I have learned from you! I just finished a huge renovation in my house and have been on the struggle bus to put my home back together that my yard and gardens have suffered. I can’t wait to make some changes out in my front yard and move some plants from around my deck. But, I need fill and loam. Because of your berms I have a whole new plan. When I had my driveway replaced last fall I made them place the base they dug out and fill an area that has just been waiting for me to loam up. Now my mind is filled with ideas… That sprouted quick fire will find its new home there with more benefits than its parent. Again, thank you!
Happy Anniversary Jenny and Jerry! 🥂🍾I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Thanks for the hydrangea tour, this helps me to decide which one I want to add to my garden next. ~Margie🤗💐
Got a couple pufferfish after seeing your previous video-they are doing great and about to bloom in Raleigh- have problems figuring out things that only get a few hours of sun but full late afternoon sun- burned up mountain hydrangeas, katsura pieris, Wolfpack azalea- just learning though and appreciate your info greatly- hoping to get to your nursery in next month or so! She wasn’t kidding-big rain for a week here
We had a massive downpour this afternoon -much needed but would have been better if the rain came more gradually. My hydrangeas all look great-no flopping. But my dinner plate hibiscus is splayed flat. Hoping it bounces back as it dries out. And the Phlox is pretty battered too. But my hydrangeas are loving life.
Jenny, did I miss when you talked about fertilizing, I’m a little confused in that area! Do you fertilize all of them the same and the same time? Also problem shade of leaves. I have 12 different hydrangeas and it seems they all have a different problem! Maybe a separate class on the problems. You take the confusion out of things, thanks!
My firelights in Michigan has a much thicker, lusher, full white bloom. Must be the southern weather that makes them not look as good as the Northern states.
I got 2 hydrangeas from my local garden center that were labeled as incrediballs but they are most definitely not. I have no idea what they are but they’re by proven winners.
It is helpful to see the difference between the hydrangeas. I planted an oak leaf last year and I think it’s in too much sun even though it’s between large oaks. My limelight is huge too & I’ve pruned it up. I also have some of the pink and blue varieties. Love how your garden is turning out!
I enjoy your videos so much! You are the type of person that I wish I was friends with! You’re so sweet! I’m older and am on limited income but would like to start a flower garden that people could come walk through. How could I get help from people like Proven Winners to try some of their new plants to see how they do in my area? I could take notes for them! I live in Downtown Greer, SC some say I’m in Zone 7b others say I’m in 8a? Can you tell me how I could get in touch with someone to help me?
My quick fire fab are not blooming what am I doing wrong? Live in VA 7a-help. Also notice my -leaves are vey light colored not dark green like yours-appreciate your advice thanks
Jenny, thank you so much for this tour of your beautiful hydrangeas! 24:50 what a beautiful shot of your back lawn! I remember when you planted those young evergreens across the back to keep your privacy in case someone ever bought and developed the land behind you and cut down those trees. I hope that never happens. It’s such beautiful, magical sight to see the woods as a background to your beautiful gardens!
I'm sure it wasn't in bloom, but sometimes I feel like I'm the only other person with a Phantom hydrangea and I'm always waiting for you to talk about yours. When it's blooming can you give more info on them? Mine is now in year 4 and last year was wonderful. I'm in Maryland, zone 7, and it's just barely starting its flower buds but looks like it's going to continue to be another good year. Thanks!!
This was so helpful and informative. Even though I live where it is hot and dry, sharing your experience with all the varieties in the climate you live, gives me much needed perspective. Your garden is so beautiful. It looks peaceful and private. A garden sanctuary!🥰
Hi Jenny, as always when you describe each plant’s characteristics I really appreciate how you emphasize the zone and growing conditions that you have. Now I’ve added two more hydrangeas to my list, meaning I need to enlarge my gardens! 🌸❤️🇨🇦
I’m up nearer to Cleveland but I’m starting to grow very food of these beauties!!! My brothers gave me a grocery store hydrangeas last Mother’s Day and I planted it in the ground and now it’s blooming and gorgeous!! So exciting!!
Beautiful, I do miss my big garden. My garden now is in pots, sadly where we are now, with trajectory of the sun I can no longer grow any hydrangeas 😔. Thanks Jenny 💋❣️😉
Jenny, thank you so much for this video. I’m a big fan of yours. Please, what is the earliest bloom hydrangea, that give the biggest impact. I’m building a cabin and want hydrangeas, but the growing season is short. Thank you. Polly from Idaho.
Thank you for this. Decided to ditch my Annabelle and get either Incrediball or Little Lime. So undecided. Tired of trying to keep Annabelle upright though I do love her.
Is there anything I can give to jump start my Little lime punch hydrangeas. I had to overwinter them in their containers and although they are coming back (planted), they are quite sparse (zone 5b).
Awesome tour! Incrediball hydrangea owner here. Zone 7a. I have a miniature hedge of three outside my kitchen window and next to my front door. Three full seasons in ground, it is shaded and on irrigation. 5 minutes every 48 hours seems to be enough, 10 during hotter months. The floppy nature has improved a lot but still one of them tends to get downturned in heavy rain, they are not staked, although I did consider that this season. This is the first season I noticed a beautiful fragrance on mine, light almost like perfume, omg the bees could not get enough. I fell in love with them all over again. They are just about 5 feet tall now And about 5 wide. I did a light trim on them in the spring to encourage stronger blooms this year but ended up with smaller blooms which I am grateful for. Next year I may prune just a little more to try and get bigger blooms.
Love yours videos I’m a true fan/subscriber, wat about the frannys hydrangea that u moved from the shade garden to pond, I’ve thought about that one every time you’ve talked about your beautiful hydrangeas
Everyone I know in cooler weather that has Little Lime Punch said it turns brown & latest one was friend nearby. She was told it was the weather but even with changes in weather per season she said it never turned red - went straight to brown.
I love hydrangeas but the mop head type doesn’t flower so well for me so thank goodness for panicle types! I’m in zone 5 b northern Illinois, my Annabelle hydrangeas are very reliable, I have heard they were discovered growing in Anna, Illinois and is native to southern Illinois 😍
I'm 99% sure she does (I was at Jenny's nursery last month). I have 4 in my yard (zone 7b) and they are full of leaves and flower buds, but none have bloomed yet. She is probably featuring ones that are in full bloom.
Good morning, Jenny ☕️ What a great comprehensive explanation of all your Hydrangeas 👏🏻👏🏻 It’s helpful to see the size differences through the years. Well done, Jenny. Have a Blessed Day 😊🐶
Fantastic!!! I have been watching for an update of the line of hydrangeas planted last year in front of the tall evergreens. This was a new bed created last year. I believe the hydrangeas were not PW. Interested as they were not on irrigation and a bit away from the house.
What happened to your Phantom hydrangeas that you planted last year? Hope they are doing well, because that is my personal favorite :) . Very beautiful hydrangeas and garden space you have. Always pleasure to watch.
So flowers are just like humans. There's all different kinds tall skinny fat short. That's because god made him that way that's why they grow different
I also can not keep up with weeds. I have just my own yard garden but Colorado has rained all June and the weeds are out of control. I can't pull them all fast enough. What can use that's safe around my plants?
Captain jacks dead weed brew, be careful where you spray it. I have put the sprayer nozzle on top of the weed and spritzed and the plant next to it was fine.
I really needed all of this valuable info on hydrangeas. Thank you! I will be sure to save it in my Garden Playlist. Then, I will be certain to read the article you've linked.

Thank you Jenny. I think I'm getting hydrangea fever! As you are going through the descriptions, I'm thinking of where I could "tuck" some in. 😂
I too suffer from that condition 😉😂
I really appreciate how well you described each type of hydrangea. Your property looks amazing!!
My favorite plant , I want every one of them !!
Wow, Jenny! Hydrangea Heaven! What a beautiful tour!🤍
By far, the best tour of hydrangeas I have seen! So helpful to see these growing in the landscape. I'm going to bookmark this as a great reference for future use! Thanks so much!

Hello Joyce
How are you doing today?
Smooth hydrangeas and oakleaf hydrangeas are also native to NC. Hense the reason they grow so well there.
Thanks for great info on Hydrangeas
You bet!

Hi. I really appreciate all your work and approach.
Thank you thank you for this video,im in zone 8a and this is informative jenny.
You’re welcome 😊
I was hoping you would show your hedge of hydrangea you planted last year. As I am struggling with planting a hedge of Vanilla Strawberry hydrangea.

Hello Brittany
How are you doing today?
Anyone have any advice on keeping deer out Of the hydrangeas? They have munched on everyone I've got this year.UGH
Will you do a tour of hydrangea macrophylla and serrata?
On your tour you have this beautiful tree I believe by your garage it has these dark green with like a maroon pink tint. What kind of tree is that ? 😊
That is a Forest Pansy redbud
It is helpful to see the difference between the hydrangeas. I planted an oak leaf last year and I think it’s in too much sun even though it’s between large oaks. My limelight is huge too & I’ve pruned it up. I also have some of the pink and blue varieties. Love how your garden is turning out!
Do the Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangeas turn pink/red in the South?

Extremely helpful! Question, do you deal with poison ivy and if so how do you get rid of it?
I'm not Jenny but I use Captain Jacks dead weed brew, I get the concentrate and mix in my sprayer at the highest ratio.
What about your Phantoms
Sorry if I missed it, are there any you can grow in containers?
We live at the beach and the soil is far too sandy for our hydrangeas to survive.
All of these can grow in coming containers. You’ll just have to get a container that nice and big to accommodate the root system of the hydrangea.
Can we ever have enough hydrangeas? No way ❤
I agree!
Jenny, thank you so much for this tour of your beautiful hydrangeas! 24:50 what a beautiful shot of your back lawn! Hello dear
How are you doing today?
Hey Jenny, What does the phantom hydrangea hedge look like now?
I totally forgot about the Phantoms 🤦🏻♀️. They are growing well & flushed with buds. I’ll do them in a tour once they begin blooming!
What was the “little friend” you were trying to zoom in on? I couldn’t see it
I loved this! Now I realize, I NEED more hydrangeas! We are a mostly sun garden, so thanks for the info!
Jenny, I was waiting for the update on you phantom hedge. I' m growing them as well.
Very helpful video! Thank you! Have a great day!🌹🌺🌻🌾🌞🌸
Thank you! You too!
Hi Jenny, as always when you describe each plant’s characteristics I really appreciate how you emphasize the zone and growing conditions that you have. Now I’ve added two more hydrangeas to my list, meaning I need to enlarge my gardens! 🌸❤️🇨🇦
Wow! I am in awe at your massive Limelight. The trunk was amazing. ❤ Panicle Hydrangeas are definitely one of my favorites.
Hello Amanda
How are you doing today?
Did the row of phantom hydrangeas make it? I know they weren't on irrigation . Just curious.
Perfect timing for Hydrangeas tour for me I’m in Ohio , along Ohio river. Zone 6a. Ready to plant something for huge impact!
Have fun!
I’m up nearer to Cleveland but I’m starting to grow very food of these beauties!!! My brothers gave me a grocery store hydrangeas last Mother’s Day and I planted it in the ground and now it’s blooming and gorgeous!! So exciting!!
May I ask which pre-emergent did you use that killed your hydrangeas? I tend to use Preen around our shrubs, and flower beds. Thanks!
Beautiful, I do miss my big garden. My garden now is in pots, sadly where we are now, with trajectory of the sun I can no longer grow any hydrangeas 😔. Thanks Jenny 💋❣️😉
Me too, I have no luck with hydrangeas in pots! We have limelights on a hill that I can’t reach!
Hope you dried out from your shade planting this week! 😂😂 sending hugs from Hamilton Ontario 🇨🇦🫶🏻🩵💕🌳🌸🌼🌻
I did! Thank you❣️
Thank you for sharing your messes and successes! What are the pink flowers behind Gatsby Gal? Some type of allium?
Yes! Serendipity allium that has just exploded into full bloom 💞
@@GardeningwithCreekside it certainly has! Looking forward to when you start shipping plants!

Beautiful hydrangeas. Annabelle smooth hydrangea will be great for my garden.
Hi dear ! Thank you for this helpful video, I enjoyed watching it.
what's the purple plant behind quick fire fab!!! you KNOW people are curious! LOL
Awesome tour, saving it to my playlist for easy access. Thanks Jenny and editing crew!
Jenny, thank you so much for this video. I’m a big fan of yours. Please, what is the earliest bloom hydrangea, that give the biggest impact. I’m building a cabin and want hydrangeas, but the growing season is short. Thank you. Polly from Idaho.

Love this video, planning to buy a Hydrangea for my garden. Thanks a lot, will have to check out what is available near me (Aust.).

Learned a lot. Have you looked at Eclipse? Such pretty dark leaves
I love this show. I just wonder why you don’t have any Tidbit hydrangeas?
I'm 99% sure she does (I was at Jenny's nursery last month). I have 4 in my yard (zone 7b) and they are full of leaves and flower buds, but none have bloomed yet. She is probably featuring ones that are in full bloom.
Bobo's
Can Limelights be transplanted? Mine have been in the ground 3 or 4 yrs and too close to my house.
Jenny, do you have bear in your area? I’ve never heard you mention them, but I would think you might.

Hello Angela
How are you doing today?
Love seeing all the hydrangeas. Great information. Beautiful selections.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful hydrangeas. I’ve really grown in how to take care of my plants. They are thriving and showing off their blooms.
This was so informative and helpful. I don’t have a garden, but I love watching your videos. Your yard is splendid and so peaceful to look at.
You are so Amazing ❤Love your channel ❤
What happened to your Phantom hydrangeas that you planted last year? Hope they are doing well, because that is my personal favorite :) . Very beautiful hydrangeas and garden space you have. Always pleasure to watch.
They are doing just fine
All the hydrangeas look beautiful! Love it❤
How do you get rid of the bugs off your hydrangea?
Excellent video! Very informative
So flowers are just like humans. There's all different kinds tall skinny fat short. That's because god made him that way that's why they grow different
Exactly!!!!

Thank you. What is the ornamental grass in your gatsby bed? I thought you had pinky winky too.
That is Apache Rose 💗. No, I don’t have a Pinky Winky
Excellent tour through hydrangeas! I like how you explain things.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was absolutely informative and entertaining, thanks for the vast knowledge and information you gave us.

Brenna is like a FBI Agent protecting the president. She loves her mama.
Hello Elizabeth
How are you doing today?
Loved this video Jenny, great information as always ♥️
Glad you liked it!!
Can those flower heads that tend to turn brown in the south be cut and dried while white? Will they turn brown when dry?
Hello dear
How are you doing today?
Good morning, Jenny! I would love to see a video about hydrangeas for zone 9.
Janey is a great resource for you as she is a zone 9b. Check out her channel youtube.com/@DigPlantWaterRepeat
