Went to Fiji for the first time in 87’ with my wife and kids. Had my first experience trying kava on that trip and I can say it wasn’t very pleasant the first time. I love the way Fijians can sit around the kava bowl and sing beautiful music and laugh like there’s no stress or worries in the world. We have since went back and visited your beautiful country over 15 times since 87’. So many fond memories for our kids growing up and making life long friends. BULA, TAKI. 😊

Tongan kava has different properties. It's lighter in taste, but not effect. It's also more heady, Fijan is usually more balanced or relaxing . (Think Indica vs sativa with cannabis)

Hi i know it has been a while since you posted your comment but since nobody said anything i will
Just in case you didn’t know, you don’t want to consume the powder/plant material itself. It’s like coffee or tea where you don’t want the whole plant but just what is dissolved.

Ouuuua !!! Nice maaa Fijian brothers !! Like us from neighbouring Tonga , we find any excuse to drink kava !!lol . Is it true that our kava taste different from each other ? The Tongan , Samoan and Fijian kava ??

Sinat T slightly different but others are more potent from the other and each person reacts to it as well. Example others may take first, second cup to kick in others more than three. Manuia🤙🏽

Yeah fijian kava like waka is a bit stronger but taste more harsh than tongan kava. Tongan kava is the best tasting if u ask me lol but as long as u get that irie feeling it's all good malo fisi

Yep! Similar concept with other root crops like Taro, Cassava, Kumala and Yams. Different soils produce a different taste/feeling/colour.

Bula! I enjoyed your video very much and have used it to share with friends what I have experienced while traveling in beautiful Fiji.
I would like to know if you could please share what is said in Fijian to open and close the Kava Drinking Session and what it means?

He said "Tarai saka tiko na yaqona vakaturaga" when he was supposed to say "darama saka tu na yaqona vakaturaga" which is somewhere along the lines of "The kava is ready/prepared."

I had a cup of kava, while I was watching a bunch of these old Tongans elders mix it. Me and my cousin were 8 at the time and it tasted like dirt, I drank the whole thing because I didn’t want to look like a chump. It was very light though and I enjoyed it a bit

Hi, I am eager to learn the casual grog session protocols.
    1. So what do you say when the grog is mixed and ready to be serve?
    2. Do you join your hands and circle the tanoa clockwise or anticlockwise?
    3. How many times do you clap before drinking the grog?
    4. How many times do you clap after drinking the grog?
    5. What do you say in when the grog session is over?
