Hey Fenton, the engine in the 05-06 (face lifted models) rsx type s is actually the k20z1. The difference between the z1 and the a2 is that the z1 has the same cams as the ITR unlike the a2.
Also has stiffer dual valve springs and better breathing cylinder head.. Respond really well to Valve train upgrades and better Intake Manifolds like the RBC.. Mine shockingly made almost 230 to the wheels with just full 3 inch, RBC, and Supertech valvetrain upgrade.. And this was a more mild tune. I coulda pushed the redline all the way up past 9000 easily if I wanted to and made more power.
I really like your videos more than a lot of the bigger car review channels! You are serious and reasonable, you have knowledge about the car, and you like normal "cars for 20 year olds" even though you are used to an NSX. I hope your channel can grow fast for you.
Thanks! I enjoy any car that's fun to drive in the canyons. I often find that older, cheaper, low powered cars are often more engaging to drive than high powered, high tech cars.
i love my 05 rsx type s. i have some add ons to it such as short shifter clutch, godspeed mono rs coilovers, cams and a tune and she drives very nicely. i baught it at 123k and it is now at 137k and is comfortable daily yet has the power when i need it
best intake for this car is the stock air box, open it up and shave all the fins and restrictors. Aftermarket intakes for this car lose power due to heat soak and CAI's continue to remain stupid(excessively long piping for no gains and you need to have a bypass when there's any chance of water getting to it, such a stupid concern to have when driving your daily.)

My CAI made almost 10hp over my stock box... A properly placed and maintained CAI will beat a stock box all day. Now SRI's are complete trash for these cars.
yeah, with coils it really helps to corner balance and get as much stroke as possible. i have bc's and it can be a little stiff, then again, I'm running 8k/5k springs too, lol.
To the owner of the car, I'd highly recommend against a 2nd gen IS250. It does have a 2.5 liter V6, but that motor leaves a lot to be desired. There aren't a lot of modifications that are worth doing for that car. It does have the appeal of offering a manual transmission which is why a lot of people try to get them, but that transmission is pretty disappointing even according to the owners. You can get an F-sport short shifter but even then, it's just not that great. Just go for the IS350 or maybe a first gen IS300 with the 2JZ
Most definitely. Just just make sure you really throw it into 3rd gear otherwise it can pop back into neutral if you don't do it right. Other than that it's an *amazing* daily driver, and great for someone who simply wants to enjoy driving, yet every once in awhile put a big smile on their face as they get thrown into the back of their seat at 6000 RPM and realize there's 2K to go until redline hits. :)
Yes sir. If you want a little more hp and keep the reliability, put full bolt ons and a tune and you'll be pushing 260hp with no problems. Just like the other guy said, throw it into 3rd gear and you'll be fine.
I drove my friends bone stock base model dc5 on bald front tires. The tires were so bald I swear they actually acted like slicks, they had really good grip on the dry but there wasn't much steering feel so it was sketchy when I really threw it into corners I wasn't sure what I would get. The chassis balance was awesome though. Even though the rear tires had good tread I could make that car rotate off throttle and on turn in I was really impressed.
+Daniel Ness It's not cambered out, but the suspension height and wheel fitment caused a lot of rubbing in the corners. Still a fun car but not set up for hard driving.
Yo its Zeke. Lol 3rd. My buddy's typeS I had the hardest time finding 3rd and/or missing it. Glad it wasnt just me. You can attribute the poor clutch feeling in the new WRX's in part to the poor build quality/engineering. Very common for the firewall to crack and the mount for the pedals to break off. If you ever get a chance have someone press on the clutch pedal and under the hood, watch how far the firewall flexes where the clutch master cylinder is mounted : )
+haskino Interesting, I think the newest 2015 WRX clutch felt a bit better than the 2012 WRX I was referring to. That one has the most vague clutch I've ever used.
+haskino I have the 02 RSX-S and it's hard to find 3rd in her too. But if you're careful, it works out..

@@tylerd3951.. I have owned 6 Type-S's and if you have any gearing issues it is due to the driver, plain and simple.. Lets be real here, most people just odnt know how to drive manual properly and maintain their clutch/tranny.. @ of the Type s I bought new, and the other 4 I bought and built myself.. None of them have any grinding or gearing issues..
@ lol at over 230k miles, the trans is holding good, but the synchros in 3rd have been rough since I got it 4 years ago. Car had a rough life before me lol
RSX models may return. Will be pricey NSX came back and hella nice.

If you have a clean 05-06 Type S, you will have a great asset in the future.. They are becoming incredibly rare to find in good condition and the Z1 is the most coveted K-series for its cylinder head over the A2.. I wouldnt be surprised to see them selling for 15K+ in 10 years time, kinda like an S2k now in good condition. I just sold one of my 06 Type S with 80K miles for $10K.. Was incredibly clean and was bone stock with Kpro V4. Had a couple people get into a bidding war over it which drove up the price a bit.
Rev match into 3rd to avoid the grind. Its your synchro

it would 100% be a great move... G35's suck and will only depreciate in a value, and the VQ isnt a great engine in my opinion. On the other hand, if you find an 05-06 Type S in great condition, jump on it quick. These cars are becoming incredibly rare in good condition and the value will only go up in the future. The Z1 is the most coveted K20 along with the Type R K20A.. They both share similar cams and the stiffer, dual valve spring combo giving them a better breathing cylinder head.. And the K20 has some of the best aftermarket there is. Can go wrong with an RSX.
@@CreativeBoy100.. Not mine... The RSX is a far superior car in almost every way other than the stock suspension... But after suspension upgrades, the RSX blows away the older DC models.. Its an overrated car in my opinion.. Yeah, its a great car,, but you'd think the thing is 300whp and a track demon the way people talk about it.. The RSX is better all around on the track and its been proven time and time again. The only downside is the Macpherson struts which are not kind towards lowering. The double wishbone provides easier suspension mods and geometry adjustments.. But a proper Coil setup done right on the Type S will make it as good, if not better than the older ITR.

totally agree

Forgot that the IS250 motor is a V6, I incorrectly said 4 cylinder in the video. No wonder that car gets poor fuel economy for only having 200ish hp.

2005-2006 type s have the k20z1 making 210hp

Am I hearing things or is this guy grinding gears every time he shifts?
Yes, he's either not holding in the clutch fully, or he's releasing to soon... That or the syncros/clutch are trashed.
Mmm isn’t it a k20z1 with 210
