THORNHILL | THE HELLFIRE CLUB (guitar cover with tab)

- So... this is the opener of Thornhill's latest album Heroine. Everybody was waiting for a second The Dark Pool, but they went in a totally different direction and knocked it out of the park imo.
I transcribed the track by ear and it was .. challenging. Not sure how they processed their guitar sound but they have a very warm & fuzzy tone, so that made it quite difficult to pinpoint the patterns. So this is not so accurate.
Anyway, TAB here (.gp, .gpx, .pdf) : bit.ly/3O9pojf
Gear : SubZero Rogue VI Baritone | Stock strings (.24 - .84) | Guitar tones : Neural DSP Nameless for rythm, Archetype Gojira for the leads | Tuning : DADGCE (1 octave lower than usual drop D).
I do not own the rights to this music | All rights go to Thornhill and UNFD Records.
So what do you guys think of Thornhill's latest album Heroine ? My favorite track so far is The Hellfire Club for sho !
Get the tab in description if you want to learn it and have a guitar that can tune down to drop D1 hehe. Cheers
ON POINT SIR!!!!
Great cover man! Would be great if you tried Leather Wings too! Such a great track!
@@paulh.8094 thank you good sir ! :)
@@chr0my850 Thanks a lot man ! Maybe I’ll try Leather Wings in the future, I kind of want to wait for someone to upload a tab because I still can’t entirely wrap my head around the guitar parts at some points haha 😛 See you around buddy !
Currently learning this on my Gretsch Jet Baritone. Thank you so much for the tab, cheers!
The dogs playing, ironically enough, describes this song so well with so little context
That's it, from now on I'll refer to them as The Hellfire Pups 😅
so glad to be able to dive into the baritone community! thanks to you and everyone else in this little neighborhood of low notes that takes the time to tab these songs and help the rest of us out
It is my pleasure, sir! Thanks for stopping by :)
The producer for this album mentioned he utilized a fuzz tone for this album to veer away from everyone else in the same scene tone wise
Yeah I saw that Nail The Mix video, George Lever has a really interesting process and really great mixes
Loathe also uses fuzz with their guitar tone, both are surprisingly similar. Loathe uses bright amps, distortion and fuzz for their baritone tone.
Gored and Heavy is the Head are prime examples.
Such a sick cover dude- my fav song off of Heroine for sure. Really appreciate you tabbing it out. Just got an 8 string and will be trying this out on that
Thanks so much dude ! Hope you have fun playing it, such a vibey song
the fact that they took your vid down for copy right reasons is only a testimony to how an insanely good job you did
Welcome back my dude, and thanks a lot for your kind words, really means a lot ! This cover is back now since I disputed the strike a second time, but if UNFD maintains it, it will probably be gone in a month :(
YOOOO LET’S GOOOOOOO!!!! this song is easily my favorite from the record!!! this cover is amazing!!!
Hey dude, thanks a lot ! What an opener, right ?! This one is my favorite too, it just oozes Deftones and Loathe, while still being Thornhill.
the feroucious dog fight really set me into the song.
hahah glad it did, buddy x)
this kinda music for me is like high metal or like trip metal my friends and I like to call it, it’s like happiness and anger at the same time🤌
That's a cool way to see it, definitely digging the heavy feels ! 🤩
This album has quickly become one of my favorites for this year! Maybe even AOTY for me. Great cover! Tone sounds great :)
Wow, and we're only halfway through the year hehe ! Agreed that this album slaps, in a totally different way than TDP but still. Was not so sure about the new direction when the singles dropped but they quickly grew on me, as well as this album. Had to listen to it a few times to soak it in but I do like it a lot now ! Thanks for stopping by, buddy !
i agree, this might be album of the year for me as well
@@KEOSOUNDS I completely agree with that 100% with the singles scaring me, while having the album sending me into orbit with a breath of relief for how much I ended up loving it. Great stuff
Omg I love your dogs and this cover!! You’re so talented :)
Haa thanks so much for the sweet compliments ! Dogs say hi :)
Witnessed this live last night and it's easily my favorite from the new record. You've inspired me to learn it. Love that SubZero by the way
Lucky you, really want to catch them on tour some day ! Hope you’ll have fun learning this awesome song :)
Amazing video, was that a guitar smith cable you were using to record??
Thanks so much dude! For the cable, I'm using the brand Planet Waves :)
This is insanely good and underrated content! Thanks a lot for providing tabs in all formats, too. You 100% killed this one
Thank you so much bro, means a lot ! I checked your cover of Nurture, you killed it too ! See you around and take care man
@@KEOSOUNDS Thank you mate, I really appreciate it! Hope to see more from you really soon 🔥
This is fucking flames!! That guitar sounds so good, wtf 😩
Thanks my dude ! 🙏 As for the tone, the Neural DSP Nameless plugin does all the work for me, really 🥲
@@KEOSOUNDS Pfft, I'm more of a drums person so I can't say I know the ins and outs of that stuff, but you're still shredding the guitar and that's what matters 🔥
That's my boy ! Ton tone est incroyable ! Et la cover est juste nickel ! T'as tout tué, encore une fois !
Heey mec, grand merci pour les gentils mots comme d'hab ! J'espère que tout roule pour toi :)
were there any other modifications you made on the guitar or is this completely stock? thanks
Hey bro, 0 mods ! Conpletely au naturel
This might push me over the edge to get a rouge VI. Great cover.
Thanks man! Yeah it’s a pretty good guitar right out of the box, and I think with a few mods it can sound even greater :) thanks for stopping by dude
@@KEOSOUNDS Have you done any mods to yours? I feel the same as Spooky, your videos are what's pushing me over the edge.
Bruuuuh, this sounds so damn accurate. Mad props! Massive thanks for including tabs in the description. Makes this bouncy guitar-boi from Germany veeery happy! Keep up the great work! 🔥🤘🏻
Thanks for the kind words dude ! This french boi is very happy to read this :)
What an absolute lord providing the tabs in gp format.
Great cover of a brilliant song. Love the video production. Subbed.
Thanks a lot my dude, hope you'll have fun learning it :) And thanks so much for the kind words!
What strings do you use? At an entire octave lower I’m sure normal gauge is way too floppy
Hey man, sorry for the late reply ! I was still using the stock strings that came with the guitar, I believe this is a .24 - .84 set and it plays pretty well for that string size (it kind of feels like playing a bass)
Just downloaded the GuitarPro tab file and it confirms that string 2 is tuned to C and not B. In your notes you state - "Tuning : DADGCE (1 octave lower than usual drop D" - whereas Drop D an octave lower is DADGBE. Which is correct? (it's only played once in your GuitarPro file so not really important).
this song is definitly in my top 3 from heroine, good cover dude !
Thanks buddy ! What are your 2 other favorite tracks from Heroine ?
@@KEOSOUNDS I would probably say blue velvet and raw, overall I really enjoyed the whole record despite the change of sounds from dark pool
Loving the baritone
Thanks man! Sounds actually pretty good right out of the box, for that price :)
Covering all my favorite songs my dude!
You sir have great taste behehe 🤜🤛
DUDE WHAAAAAAAAAT (THis is the best thing ever and i really hope you do Arkangel and Varsity Hearts)
Hey buddy, thanks a lot ! Arkangel might be in the works :)
Top ton son sur la cover!!
Et en bonus un combat de chiens d’une rare violence 😂 🐕
Haha merci mec ! Faudrait que je mette un disclaimer "no furry boi was harmed in the making of this cover" :)
great work, thank you
Thanks buddy !
Solid cover my dude! Sounds amazing 👌💪
Oh man, thank you so much ! Still jamming your Arkangel cover to try to learn it, by the way :)
@@KEOSOUNDS
Bro check your IG dm's
@@yiftachmeged7492 thanks for letting me know man, I never check IG haha
Great stuff
Thanks a ton man!
Dude, I was working on trying to figure this song out yesterday! I had the same issue with the guitar tone just making it flat out hard AF to hear some of what they were doing in certain parts 😆 Sick cover and appreciate the tabs! 🔥
Haha exactly ! After repeating some parts about a hundred times I was lowkey starting to go insane and to hear melodies that do not exist ! If they release official tabs one day I'd be curious to check that. Anyway thanks for stopping by dude, I see you in every comment section of every band that I love haha, glad to see you here :)
@@KEOSOUNDS Good to be here, dude! That definitely doesn't surprise me based off the stuff you've covered on your channel 😁 Man, I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one who starts to have auditory hallucinations after excessively listening to parts of a song over and over again 😵 I've actually had to come back to stuff the next day or at least a couple of hours later for it to sound normal again lol. I'm working my way through Leather Wings now and I swear it's even worse than this song 😩
@@DJENTISNTNOTAGENRE OOF yeah I already passed for Leather Wings haha, you are right it is definitely worse than this one ! Good on you for taking breaks and getting back to the song later, hopefully you'll get it one day !
@@KEOSOUNDS Believe it or not, through sheer persistence I've figured out (as close as I can given the extremely dense mix) pretty much the whole song aside from the bridge section now! I'm not sure what method you use to try and learn songs by ear, but I like to try to at least get rid of the vocals from the song with iZotope RX 9 (you can also do this in your DAW depending on which one you have), then I'll slow it down and sometimes pitch everything an octave higher for stuff like this where the tuning is really low. Apparently, Leather Wings is in F#1 instead of E1 or D1 🤔 Hopefully, I should have a cover up within the next few days!
@@DJENTISNTNOTAGENRE whaat?! You’re a beast dude, very curious to see how your transcription goes! And damn, F#1 tuning? That’s insane, how is that possible haha! Pitching everything 1 octave up is actually a very smart way to do it, wish I had thought of that :o
My process is finding out the tempo, slapping a guitar vst (Odin II) in my DAW next to the original track and figuring out everything by ear by slowing down the track a little bit. Looking forward to seeing your cover, buddy!
Excellent job! I had seen them awhile back and was rewatching some clips my friend had and the way you are playing it is actually making it a little harder. Though for tonal reasons I could understand why you'd choose to play it as you do at the :30 mark, it appears as though he would play it 12-14 on the lowest string as opposed to 5-7 on the second lowest string. It makes accessing that 16 on the second string far easier and less of a jump.
Hey dude, thanks for stopping by :) interesting, yeah after uploading the video I saw a few live footages and saw the same thing! I actually thought about playing it like them at first but I really liked to play it on 5-7 to get some movement with my arm, kind of like a cboreography you know? I got that from a Joao Medeiros video about composing riffs where he told that if it sounds the same, going for the more visually aesthetic way is cool :)
I love the fact that baritone guitars are comically larger and a menace in every way
Honestly, it is a 10-15 minute difference. You really notice it only when you go to regular 6 string - that thing seems like toy guitar, lol. But hey, i started on baritones, so Im a bit biased
Amazing!
YOU’RE amazing !
If you're interested in getting the tone closer to the album, I highly recommend you watch a video by George Lever on the NTM UA-cam channel where he goes over the guitar tone and processing.
But in short, you wanna have a slight octaver first thing in the signal (not too much, just barely audible) going to Archetype Nolly with the 2nd overdrive on and amp 3. Turn off the stock IRs and use GGD Studio Cabs Cali. There's much more going on so definitely give the video a look, but I hope this helps out!
Hey man, thanks for the recommendation ! I started watching it when it came out but forgot to finish it and it did not even occur to me to check it again while preparing this cover haha. Crazy how much is going into the guitar signal, and it works super well ! Take care man
I use George’s “Drop E again…” tone on Archetype Gojira. It sounds very very close.
Cute dogs and beautiful cover :')
Thanks a lot mate, take care :)
Jesus dude your sound is divine, very impressed! better promotion for neural DSP plugins then I have heard before
Thanks for the kind words buddy! To be honest I’m not so good at dialing tones but the Neural DSP plugins already sound amazing right out of the box. Also the guitar tone from the original track is godly, that helped a lot haha
Awesome cover/montage dude, keep it up !
Thanks for stopping by to say that man, means a lot ! Take care
Hey man this amazing. Is there any chance you could upload a non-guitar pro version of the tabs?
Thanks dude ! Sure thing, I'll make a .pdf version after work and will add it to the link. Will let you know here when it's done :)
@@KEOSOUNDS thanks so much!!
@@markschwarz9139 Hey man, the .pdf version is now in the folder!
@@KEOSOUNDS 👏👏 thank you!
Bro this is sick! Can you do one with tabs for Arkangel as well? Much appreciated for these tabs.
Hey mate, thanks for stopping by ! I have not planned on doing Arkangel just yet, but when I do, I’ll definitely upload my transcription. Stick around I guess :)
Not a huge fan of the direction they took but with this new album (was a massive fan of dark pool) but you killed this cover. Also this song is kinda the exception off of this album for me. Really atmospheric and I love it
Yeah man, TDP must be one of my favorite album ever as well! Perfect from start to finish. While being very different, I really dig this album too ! Somehow I still get this floating feeling (especially with this track) which was the main reason why I fell in love with Thornhill. Anyway thank you for the kind words and for taking the time to comment ! Take care
what do you use to connect the guitar to pc?
Thanks for stopping by, dude :) I plug my guitar in my sound interface, it's a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
is that subzero guitar good for the low price
In my opinion it does. I don't play that much with it (waiting for the next Loathe album to cover hehe) but it's nice to have a guitar for super low tunings. Sounds good out of the box with a good amp or am sim, but it can sound godly with the right mods (even though the mods would end up costing more than the guitar itself). Hope it helps!
@@KEOSOUNDS thanks man
what tuning is this in. I really wanna know
Hey man! It's drop D1, so like a regular drop D but one octave lower :)
You crushed this. Subbed
Thanks bro ! Take care and see you around :)
Share that preset! Sounds so sick
Thanks bud! I recall that it was the same preset I used for my cover of Loathe’s New Faces In The Dark but with different IR. You can check the description of the video, I put screenshots of the entire signal processing. I’ll get back to you with the exact IRs I used for this one
Hi again dude, I shared the screenshots of my whole guitar processing chain with comments, you can check them via the link in description. Hope it helps !
