    I’m in USA and I cry every time I see all the dead ash trees!!! It’s soooo sad!!! The emerald ash bore Beatles from china and evasive species have killed them almost completely off!!! I have one big one that is still alive and may be the last one left! So sad! This tree was my life saver as I burn wood for heat all winter and if I get in a bind and run out of wood I always knew I could cut down a green ash tree and burn it! The only one that will burn green… besides the pine but you can’t burn pine in a woodstove… anyway I’m hoping I can bring them back here!!! Thank you my brother!

    Thank you so much for your incredible work!
    I am interested in mythology connected to trees, and there is zero content on this topic on UA-cam or elsewhere in such a beautiful and poetic format❤ I am incredibly grateful that you decided to make your knowledge available to anyone interested. The thing I love the most, though there are many, but the one I want to highlight is how you cover different European mythologies and add a lot of invaluable background information. Just amazing❤
    A big thank you from Ukraine👋

      Ah thank you so much my friend, I'm certainly no expert by any means, but am hugely interested in comparative folklore and mythology. I would love to know more about the stories from your part of the world, especially as many people believe the original 'Indo-Europeans' came out of modern day Ukraine somewhere. Sending all the good thoughts to you and yours during these difficult times ❤️ 🇺🇦

    Runes! I learned a tiny bit of that stuff in the 80s, but it was all because I had heard something similar to this topic from a hedge-witch I had met at a party. I am full on binging your channel... Your presentation of these stories has been so beneficial to me .. I have read them and I do know of them.. but your approach is perfect for me to understand in a way that my mind "gets it".. having ADHD .. I get distracted so often..like, I will know what's going on but forget part of it because I got bored or saw something sparkly 😊 ... but you keep my attention entirely and I would love so much to have longer videos and more and more.
    What you speak of are things i find very interesting.. so who cares if many know the stories, myths and such.. your narrative is so entertaining... the ones who already know will enjoy hearing it thru you and those who don't will dig you way of presenting

    • @TheStoryCrow
      @TheStoryCrow  11 місяців тому +3

      ADHD here too. In a way it’s good for making content, because your mind just wanders and most of the time your mind is moving faster then your lips. No need for much prior planning 😅
      Perhaps if your mind is similar, that’s why it holds your attention more than someone speaking slower and less meanderingly 😅

    I lost my 80ft ash tree in march this year and it’s August and so hot in Los Angeles!
    A arborist told me to get rid of my tree because it was 6ft from the house and it had a slight lean and the deck was not good for my ash tree in the long run. Ashy has survived with the deck so I don’t understand why he told me to get rid of my ash tree.
    I am still hurting !
    I used to have birds in the backyard and sounds like I live in the forest surrounded neighbor’s oak tree , my ASHY , sycamore and other oak trees and now I want my ash tree back .
    I have seedling growing , can I plant 🌱 in the ground so I can have an Ash tree grow back??

    • @TheStoryCrow

      Sorry to hear this. But ash trees grow so fast and coppice really well. Is the stump still there? Keep it a little watered, you will see new shoots in spring and in a couple of years, a short bushy reborn tree bustling with birds. ✨🌳☺️

    Do you think ragnarok already happened and was a metaphor for the proverbial death of paganism in that area and the rise of christianity, or is it a futuristic "apocalyptical" event to come..... i mean both speak of a great serpant in the ocean....just curious. I love all your videos. However, the plant/tree ones hold a special spot in my heart. I love the concept that odin and his brothers carved " atom and eve" from wood. Thank you for another amazing video. 💚

    • @frankieberry
      @frankieberry Рік тому +1

      Oh that's soo cool about the folk magick part. My grandmother ( Appalachian magick) she would sware by this. You take a penny and rub it on the wort and then slice a potato. Put the penny in the half of the potato and burry it. As the potato goes back to the earth, the wort goes away.

    • @TheStoryCrow
      @TheStoryCrow  Рік тому +1

    • @TheStoryCrow
      @TheStoryCrow  Рік тому +3

      Oooh. Great question, and I think one thnat divides many Mythologists. I think a Norse specialist (which I am not) would tell you that these are always described as 'future' events in the sagas. In terms of interpretation though, this could either be a future apocalyptic event and part of the eternal cycle of dissolution and cosmic rebirth present in many mythologies. Put I've heard the more poetic 'death of paganism' interpretation too. Another interpretation could be that these events exist in Mythic time, therefore outside time, and neither past nor future but kind of... happening now and always. Or any combination of the above. Myth is fun!

    My whole life I had no idea what my own last name meant…and then a bizarre sequence of synchronicity events led me to Odin and Paganism because my last name means “at the Ash tree”.
    While it’s too long to summarize here, I’ve been endlessly fascinated with Pagan/Heathen culture since Odin reached through the æther and demanded my attention.
    The æ is actually derived from the ᚨ rune.
    I see the ᚨ as a representation of my family heritage, and it’s connection the High One, who initially brought it all to light for me. It was surreal finding all this out with the context.
    If you’re willing to entertain the idea that “Shakespeare” is a pen name, maybe you’d like to see the connections between Odin & Shakespeare on my channel!
    Spoiler: Odin was called “spear shaker”

    • @TheStoryCrow
      @TheStoryCrow  10 місяців тому +1

      The rowan isn’t represented in any runic script as far as I’m aware. Just Ash. Birch. Yew and also Oak in the anglo Saxon futhorc.
      Rowan is represented in the Ogham script though. I’ll do a video about it when the leaves pop out later in the year 😉

    • @TheStoryCrow
      @TheStoryCrow  10 місяців тому +2

      Also Rowan is called ‘mountain ash’ so your confusion is totally understandable - they’re similar looking if un related trees 😊

    • @sophievautour8573
      @sophievautour8573 10 місяців тому

      Yeah. Super confusing. Now I understood that rowan fruit are those beautiful, edible berries. And Ash fruit are Samare, Keys, or Helicopters! And they are also edible...elm also has edible keys, and the leaves can me drank as an infusion.

But we also would see pictures in stars (constellations) that are unique to our culture and when we meet other cultures and they have different animals/plants/pictures in stars , we combine them because they are up there and don’t change therefore both cultures constellations representation,somehow, have to be true. I have watched a few scholars on the runes and most agree they are not representations on their own, but just letters of the alphabet. Makes me sad, I wish the runes did have magical meanings... But they do not.

    • @TheStoryCrow
      @TheStoryCrow  11 місяців тому

      That is probably not, in fact, correct. Runes definitely have meanings. These are given in source material, such as the rune poems, for eg, and later source material too, such as the prose Edda. Runes are letters, yes, but also symbols with a semantic value as well as a phonetic one. The ‘just letters’ theory has taken hold on the internet it seems, but is not shared by the majority of academics.

      Words have power and runes have poetry in each stroke of the pen; grounded in what they convey as the meaning of things and in what they describe
