    Ron, you da man 🙏
    It's so very difficult to find a convincing copy of Sabbath albums
    The overwhelming amount of different issues from which to choose was the most frustrating experience of my "music journey".
    The same happened with Judas Priest albums, such a headache 😖
    Thanks for your point of view!!

    I have the "Rhino" of the first Sabbath record, sounds great! I also have a "misprint" pressing of paranoid, where the label has songs printed that's not on the Album!

    I have that WWA and the actual UK swirl of The 1st album. The swirl sounds better. Side 2 of the WWA sounds exactly the same as the swirl but side 1 doesn't, something is missing in the sound, like the stamper had been more worn down on side 1 than side 2 or something.

    • @brothajoe2139
      @brothajoe2139 2 роки тому

      I noticed the last 2 songs on the WWA version of side 1 were lower than the start of the record (earlier songs). This is also present on the 1st Japan pressing. Side 2 does sound fine on both.

    Thank you Ron you are very kind to make this video upon my request. Great information. Will look out for WWA VO6 and Castle editions and being U.K based i hope to be successful but will keep away from U.K sellers. Anyway i have made notes from your commentary and will start my quest probably with Discogs. Thanks again Ron!!!!

      Be careful with Discogs. There are a lot of shady sellers on there who purposely overgrade. The records they claim is NM isn't even close.

    Thanks for the video Ron. I recently picked up the Castle remasters of the S/T debut album and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Definitely more slam and better bass than the Rhinos IMO. Unfortunately the Rhinos and these are all I have to compare but I am definitely liking the Castles a little more.

    Hi Ron, I was wondering if you have listened on the new Black Sabbath Collection box set 1970-1978 , by Warner , and what are your thoughts about it. I' m one step away from buying that but I've seen your video about Castle/Sanctuary 180grams , versions and got me into thinking

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  4 роки тому +1

      Haven't done a lot of research on it but the records I was reviewing were older 2009 2012 editions the new boxset was remastered at Abbey Road Studios from digital files Bella on discogs compared them to the original Warner Brother pressings said you can hear the difference in the drum kit the bass the separation between instruments all the good analog stuff is missing I know they did a UK reissue as well in the early records are on the vertigo swirl that was cool

    On analogplanet I read that, according to some people, the german vertigo swirls have more bass than the english swirls, which for black sabbath might be a good thing. Another thing, when you buy on discogs you can give feedback about the seller after the sale. So if lots of people gave feedback saying ''items as described'' you can trust that seller, even if he's english.

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  5 років тому +2

      Okay thanks I'm just learning about discogs you know on eBay you're always so afraid to say something because they're going to give you negative feedback but all that's changed as well but I did purchase a German vertigo swirl of paranoid and it was not very good it did not have more Bass just less fidelity than the WWA or the sanctuary and for that matter I think I didn't compare them but I think the Rhino would even sound better

      @@RocknRonni....on eBay a seller can no longer give a buyer negative feedback. On Discogs a seller can give a buyer negative feedback, which is why a "neutral rating" is just as good as a negative. Buyers are afraid to leave a negative because of retaliatory feedback so they leave a neutral. Also, Discogs always protects the sellers and it's a hassle to go through when you have a dispute.

    The pressing to look out for are the UK Vertigo Spaceship label pressings . They are the identical stampers to the swirl pressings and sound identical too ( I have both ) Much cheaper and easier to pick up than the swirls or the WWA bit of a hidden secret buy them before the secret is out and the prices go up.
    Always take ebay conditions with a huge pinch of salt unless you know and trust the seller , there are a few honest ones out there.
    All The Black Sabbath albums up to and including Vol 4 are available on the Vertigo Spaceship label pressings.
    In fact the Sabbath Vol 4 on that label is quite rare but they are out there and have picked up all 4 albums for around £20 or less each.

      @rayking9781 4 роки тому

      Well, you certainly won't be able to find any Sabbath spaceship LP's for that cheap of a price. People are buying those as an alternative to the swirls and the higher priced WAA. The only ones currently being offered are VG+ and below or from sellers with bad feedback scores who nobody should be buying from. It's getting harder to buy true clean copies. That's why it's better to buy the reissues now and wait until a clean original or spaceship comes along. I wouldn't even buy a swirl from most of those sellers from Discogs with their high negative feedback rating.

    Hi friend, I have a "UK Vertigo Phillips Record Product of Black Sabbath I LP," Also, a Blue Phillips 1st Japan Pressing LP and a German Vertigo Pressing LP. I was interested in getting the WWA LP pressing from your description. I have a chance to get a mint condition record of WWA, what would your opinion be for the WWA versus the very first UK pressing, do you think they may be close in sound? I also have CLACD 196 castle communications on CD and wondered what label they were transferred from. Thanks for your help and great video!!

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  2 роки тому +1

      Well I don't have a lot of information but concerning the 1st UK Vertigo swirl Sabbath record I do know that the Stamper number in the dead wax is v06.
      This is this the same Stamper number v06 on the WWA so they're using the exact same stampers.

      @@RocknRonni Hi Ron, thank you for the response. So I did manage to order a WWA pressing of Black Sabbath I. The funny thing is, the sleeve has the vertigo label? I thought the seller had misplaced the correct sleeve. It turns out that it is the 1973 UK release of the WWA record in a Vertigo sleeve according to Discogs. I will test this record out when it arrives and let you know my opinion if you like? I love the Japanese press as it is clean, detailed and smooth sounding (not too loud). I wasn't a fan of the German press. The Japan press was better than my WB 2016 remaster from the US. The 1st UK press sounds completely different as it is louder than the other pressings while still maintaining clarity. Vocals are loud and clear, the guitar whales with power, drums shimmer and the bass guitar is distinct from other instruments. So far, the Japan press and the UK press are both great but completely different in sound.

      @@RocknRonni I got the WWA version in the mail. It does sound excellent with great clarity and some noticeable bass. There is just something about the Phillips Pressing..it is almost like it was recorded completely different. The sound stage is very wide and the guitar is the cleanest I have heard. I really enjoyed the vocal detail on the WWA version and also the reverb on the drums. Cheers, and thanks for the video on this topic!

    Its a UK thing with overgrading. Im from the UK but i am fussy with what im buying. Like you, i want Near Mint copies that are truly NM. I ordered a copy of ELO out of the blue Near Mint for both cover and record. It arrived and the cover was coming away at the top and the record was noisy as hell and had some hairlines. He even said in the comments that it was a top copy and pretty much perfect. When i got annoyed, he left me a neutral saying i was ‘irritable’ 😆😆😂😂
    Even UK sellers mostly dont use great mailers. Theyre always that basic bare minimum mailer, that means a knock on the corner means a corner ding, its so frustrating. I always use oversize mailers.

    Great video again. About the Rhino reissues, I've just noticed that they were only made in USA. I believe that Castle/Sanctuary ownes the rights for reissues in Europe/UK. There are 3 different Castle reissues, the first one (2001), and 2 others (2009 and 2015). I wonder if those later Castle resisues are as good as yours - I hope so. I say that because the second Rhino reissue (released in 2016) it's worse than the first one (released in 2010). The first one was praised by everybody, but the second one got some bad reviews - at least for Paranoid. BarakPDub done a video comparing both Rhino editions.
