I really like "Who Scared You" which was an outtake from The Soft Parade.
It is possibly the Doors' (Morrison era) weakest album, but I'd still give it a solid 7 out of 10. I've grown to like it more as time has gone on. All of their albums are great.
Released on my -1 birthday, Soft Parade is my favorite Doors album. A tenuous grip on sanity has always loomed large in the Doors legend and this one takes the cake. Because of the individual song writing credits, i like to think of the track listing as a friendly competitive back and forth between Jim and Robbie as to who's got the crazier creative vision... which Jim, of course, wins hands down with the closer.

@@ericcrawford3453 Who Scared You and Whiskey, mystics and men are really great tracks that should have been on there and maybe also Rock Is Dead if they would have developed it and maybe Someday Soon would have fit that vibe. So great left overs
As a longtime fan of The Doors, I can agree with some that the Soft Parade is their weakest album, but it’s certainly not a bad album. While I’ve always loved the title track, I’d never been overly wild about the incorporation of the trumpet into their music. I never thought it was very fitting for the style of the Doors and it’s used rather extensively on this piece. However, all things considered, it’s still a decent album. It was just never my first go to. Nice review !
I think Morrison hotel is their weakest. The Soft parade has some very strong songs like Wishful Sinful, The Soft parade and Wild Child. You gotta give Tavistock credit they could make some great creations to sway the masses!
The song "Soft Parade" I loved how this song shifted gears and ended into an explosive frenzy just like Deep Purple's song "Child in Time" However as a Christian I did not care how it started out plus John Densmore made a similar comment about that as well.
The Doors are one of the bands where I believe there was no “weak” album (excluding the couple post Morrison albums). I’d say Soft Parade is their most different. I love it though, the string & big band arrangements are fantastic, I find it really taps into Jim’s appreciation for the big band crooners like Sinatra who played a significant influence on his vocal style.
It’s an interesting different album, experimental and sometimes too light pop sounding, but with a number of strong songs as well as a few weak ones. They return to their better hard rock, blues, and jazz roots in the last two albums: Morrison Hotel and LA Woman -- better conclusion there then the somewhat muddled Soft Parade album.
I came in to this world 75 days before Jim Morrison died, I've always loved The Doors. Soft Parade is their most unlistenable... fantastic video now I know why, I do like this album, but it's their worst. I've subscribed.
There are no "weak" Doors albums, at least for as long as Jim was fronting them. The Soft Parade sequence alone makes this a great album. For the ages.
Look at what the Doors accomplished during their short time together...they recorded their debut album late '66 (released '67) and their last ...LA woman as a 4some late '70 (released 71) plus another 4 albums during those 4 (recording) years....in total 6 albums bravely taken in multiple directions without fear of the critics and each standing the test of time. On top of that they toured extensively. IMO there was no other band apart from the Beatles who reinvented their music as much from album to album in so short a period of time
Not my favorite Doors Album, but I do like it very much. I guess it's their experimental album. Every Doors Album sounds incredibly different from each other. That's one of the things I love about them. 🎸🎸🎸🎸

This is a great album! Jim was actually very proud of it! Especially the title song. Jim actually suggested a horn section to change things up on this album. This guy is obviously reading some wikipedia or some critics review.
No, it was the other three who wanted the orchestral parts. That's why the songs written by Robby have horns/strings while Jim's songs don't (the outtake "Who Scared You" being an exception). Jim didn't want the horns and strings, the rest of the band did.
IMO, Jim Morrison was trying to invent new genres of music, or at least boldy mixing unexpected musical genres together. The experiments mostly failed, spurring the stripped-down blues-rock sound of the following album, "Morrison Hotel." But you already knew that, right?
I can't get my head around where this hate for Soft Parade comes from? I think Ray Manzarek said it perfectly "and the public went oh they've changed their sound, we only wanna hear Light My Fire..." People are going on about strings, there are strings only in two songs! and there's bunch of jam tracks with really great playing by the three of them. Sound of the album is really great, might be their best
Yes that is true People always complain when Bands change their sound. I didn't think the string sections were too much although maybe the use of the horns and brass might have made it sound much different
I think the Soft Parade song is one of their best songs and I don't think the album is weak at all, Shaman's Blues with it's somehow strange loping feel is another high point to me on the album. I accept that it might not be to your taste but I don't think the word weak should be applied to it.
I use the word weak as a way of saying if I had to rank them from my least favorite to my most favorite I would put this at the bottom but that doesn't mean it's a bad album.
Good album with wild child, shamans blues, touch me, tell all the people, even filler like do it is good. Good Album and I also think the cover is pretty cool.
The Soft Parade is certainly not one of The Doors worst albums. There were very good songs and legendary ones like Touch Me and The Soft Parade, and several others were good songs also. Rather, say that The Soft Parade might not be The Doors best album, but it was a good album based on it's merits.
I still think it's a good album but if I have to rank them from worst to best, I would probably put this one lower, but that's only because the other ones are just great albums.
It’s ok, Morrison became one of the biggest radio show hosts I the world… Rush Limbaugh. ( also the name of Jim’s favorite poet. ) hiding from the cabal in plain site.
Definitely at the bottom of the Jim albums. Which means it's still better than what most bands put out. The bounce back was coming. Hotel is damn good then the masterpiece and my favorite album LA.
I've actually seen this album at the top of many Doors best album lists, l never thought so personally it is also my least favorite, but it's still an excellent album it's The Doors come on!
If you replace "Do It" and "Easy Ride", with "Who Scared You" and "Whiskey, Mystics And Men", I think it becomes an even better album. As it is, it's their weakest album with Jim Morrison. But it's still better than a lot of other 1960's rock albums.
I think "Soft Parade" was a decent album. I still pop it on fifty+ years on. But, hey, what about "American Prayer"? Can we petition the Lord to bring back Jim? Peace on earth.
I don’t think they did a bad album with Jim but I think think this one and Strange Days are the weakest. Jim wasn’t writing as much so they’re are too many Robby Krieger songs. Not to mention I don’t like the horns and especially the strings on it.
If you are going to rank an album by ranking charts and not by pure art, nothing to talk about. Not my view of music as art expression. I think soft parade is a masterpiece and is the only doors album that I frequently revisit as a whole and not track by track.
The Soft Parade is a fine lp-not my favorite-other than the namesake song at the end; ie. The Soft Parade, which I always thought was just 8 minutes of noise and confusion.
Fur sure no# 01 DOORS NOT OFTEN THE HIT TRACK IS ANY OTHER THAN song 1 side 1 . Not the case with TOUCH ME .. ISN'T IT AMAZING BRIDES MAID R.I.P. JIM ROBBIE JOHN RAY
The Soft Parade was a mess and is still a mess. Listen to it without the horns and strings...most of the songs are improved so I would guess adding these new instruments as a mistake. But as a critic wrote, "But, hey, it was 1969 and everybody was using horns." Irony comes into this a bit when one considers that Who Scared You was left off the album. I imagine because if you put that in, you'd have to redo half of the other songs and in effect create a whole new album...which I am guessing would have been a whole lot better than the Soft Parade. Having said all of this, Wishful Sinful remains one of my favorite songs of all time.
It is their weakest album by a long way, probably because only Morrison and Krieger contributed, in truth it is a big mess, but it is still listenable 😅

Yes that is true People always complain when Bands change their sound. I didn't think the string sections were too much although maybe the use of the horns and brass might have made it sound much different
Actually my favourite Doors album even if it is not their best.
Yes I've heard people put this as their favorite.
I love the album.
Cool. Glad you like it.
this was a great album!
It is good compared to other albums from 1969
I Love The Doors This Definitely Is there Weakest Album But All ( Morrison Era ) Albums are great 😊
Yes I agree that all the albums are great
I think the Soft Parade song is one of their best songs and I don't think the album is weak at all, Shaman's Blues with it's somehow strange loping feel is another high point to me on the album. I accept that it might not be to your taste but I don't think the word weak should be applied to it.
I use the word weak as a way of saying if I had to rank them from my least favorite to my most favorite I would put this at the bottom but that doesn't mean it's a bad album.
Yes it is.
Yes I would say so
Good album with wild child, shamans blues, touch me, tell all the people, even filler like do it is good. Good Album and I also think the cover is pretty cool.
Yeah I still believe there are some good songs on here
I like it.
That's so cool
Could've included "Gonna Build Me a Woman" but LPs only could hold 40 minutes without losing sound quality.
Yeah, there are diofferent reissues of this album with additional songs.
Figuring The Doors’ worst album is hard because there is no bad Doors album (the last two were good just needed Jim singing on them)
Yeah, I agree with the post-Jim albums. They needed him.
even if it's their weakest it's still good, theyhad a helluva run in a short period of time
Yes every band has to have one album called their weakest so does it necessarily mean it is bad
I wouldn't call it their worst album. I would call it sixth best. Although it doesn't measure up to their others, it's not bad.
It is still one of my favorite albums of the year 1969
I also think that it is the weakest of the Morrison-era albums, but I like it. I like all of the other Morrison albums better and about equally well.
Yes this is one of those bands where every album is almost as good as the other
The band released 5albums 4 of them classics and 1 " duff" ( soft parade) still not a bad record.
Yeah I still like it.
It’s ok, Morrison became one of the biggest radio show hosts I the world… Rush Limbaugh. ( also the name of Jim’s favorite poet. ) hiding from the cabal in plain site.
That's an interesting theory I don't know if I've heard that
Because it's pure BS.@@jcrockandmetalreviews
"Five To One" was not from LA Woman.
Waiting for the Sun
Yes thank you It was one of those things that I thought to myself maybe I should fact check it before I record but then I forgot oops lol
Definitely at the bottom of the Jim albums. Which means it's still better than what most bands put out. The bounce back was coming. Hotel is damn good then the masterpiece and my favorite album LA.
LA Woman is one of my favorites
I've actually seen this album at the top of many Doors best album lists, l never thought so personally it is also my least favorite, but it's still an excellent album it's The Doors come on!
Yeah, it depends on if you prefer the style of music they were going for.
If you replace "Do It" and "Easy Ride", with "Who Scared You" and "Whiskey, Mystics And Men", I think it becomes an even better album. As it is, it's their weakest album with Jim Morrison. But it's still better than a lot of other 1960's rock albums.
Yes despite being the weakest I still rank this as a top 10 album of 1969
I think "Soft Parade" was a decent album.
I still pop it on fifty+ years on.
But, hey, what about "American Prayer"?
Can we petition the Lord to bring back Jim?
Peace on earth.
Yeah, I need to revisit American Prayer. It's been a while since I heard it.
I don’t think they did a bad album with Jim but I think think this one and Strange Days are the weakest. Jim wasn’t writing as much so they’re are too many Robby Krieger songs. Not to mention I don’t like the horns and especially the strings on it.
Yes I agree. All the albums with Jim are really good, but when you have to rank them, I would say this one would come towards the bottom
If you are going to rank an album by ranking charts and not by pure art, nothing to talk about. Not my view of music as art expression. I think soft parade is a masterpiece and is the only doors album that I frequently revisit as a whole and not track by track.
That's cool. It was different, but I guess some people might prefer the others.
Story of touch me. Robbie and his girlfriend fought. He had a new song. Come on come on now hit me babe. Jim suggested touch
Oh that's a cool story. I didn't know that little detail.
I been jamming this album a lot recently i cant believe it was known as one of the worst. The song alone is a almost 9 min banger
The title track is awesome. It is not bad, just the worst compared to the others.
People just say this as they changed their sound.
That's what usually happens when bands change their sound
@@jcrockandmetalreviews Like the Beatles on Sgt Pepper?
I really like this album........the album im not a fan of is LA WOMAN.........only a couple of songs on it i liked..............
That's cool It's very different For me I prefer LA woman though
could at least had the l.p cover not the cd
Sorry, I just have it on CD
Thought it was a good one . Enjoy your commentary .
Glad you enjoyed it
'do it' was terrible.
Yeah, I didn't like that one that much.
its not that weak , try and write one
Yeah, I would say it is compared to the others
The Soft Parade is a fine lp-not my favorite-other than the namesake song at the end; ie. The Soft Parade, which I always thought was just 8 minutes of noise and confusion.
I like the title track, although it is kind of weird.
Fur sure no# 01 DOORS
NOT OFTEN THE HIT TRACK IS ANY OTHER THAN song 1 side 1 .
Not the case with TOUCH ME .. ISN'T IT AMAZING
BRIDES MAID
R.I.P.
JIM
ROBBIE
JOHN
RAY
Is It Their Best Album.
Boy, just listen shaman blues
I agree there are some good tracks here
I lost confidence in the integrity of this presenter when i saw the KISS jacket in the background.
🤩😈👽🐱
Yeah, it would be interesting to hear without the horns.
They should remix it again but NAKED
Without those corny horns and strings
Just them, the Doors.
Yes that would be cool
I totally agree.
Easy ride is I looked at you recycled.
Cool, I never noticed that.
No, LA Woman is the weakest. Soft Parade is damn good and the addition of horns gave them a little more depth.
I would have to respectfully disagree I think LA woman is one of the best
The albums without Jim are the 💩 albums everything else was solid and good. Strange Days is my favorite without a doubt, good record.
Yeah, strange days is a good one
I think Morrison hotel is the worst
It is their weakest album by a long way, probably because only Morrison and Krieger contributed, in truth it is a big mess, but it is still listenable 😅
I love the Soft Parade...Touch Me; Soft Parade; Follow Me Down, etc. Actually, I think their worst album was their last, "LA Woman."
It is their weakest compared to the others, but not a bad album.
I disagree it’s greatly
Its good, but at the bottom compared to the others, for me at least
Parade is puke. The monk brought lunch. His wife comes home..forget it....
LOL
