That's a pretty good rise to hook up ratio - well for me it would be anyway !!!! - I couldn't even tempt them to rise to a dry on the Derwent yesterday - got two on Mayfly nymph and they both came off !!!! - Must sharpen me hooks !!!! was lovely watching the Mayfly hatch though - and I saw a Kingfisher - I will console myself with the old saying - "There is more to fishing than catching fish"

Fly Fishing is a funny old game. There are days where everything hooks up and days when nothing hooks up and they seem like the same day - just inexplicable. Still a really good video, I was highly entertained. Congratulations IB, you seem to fish a lot better than Andy when under pressure!
I'm going out for likely last session of spring Trout as water temps are getting too high. Rumor is the Green Drakes are out!
Thanks Tom, I don't think I'm better, I just had a lot more practice prior to that whilst Andy's been working every day and hasn't been able to fish so a big advantage on my side

Love the video guys, but please crimp those barbs on the commercial flies. Much rather see it in your fingers with the forceps crushing it, than the website image. Tight lines!
Had the exact same thing on Wednesday on the lower Dove. landed 2 out of 7 risen. Sooooo much fun though.
Great watching you two fish all the same pools we fished together Andy. I think IB is very brave going head to head with the seasoned pro - and then winning a penalty shoot-trout. You've taught her too well! Been fishing dries with renewed confidence since our session but with a similar hit rate. I'll definitely be back for more tuition.

Just watched it to the end. Not a great ad for detached bodies! I'm using long shanks but still having the same problems. Testing ahrex mayfly at the moment and will report back!

A great competition, but all you seem to have achieved is that it does not matter which mayfly pattern you use, they take everything, it all down to presentation.

Well, from what I could tell you both did nothing wrong, flopping the fly on the water prior to casting and a tiddler comes up for it, that's just tough luck, as Mayfly patterns are generally largish maybe the fish don't get a good hold of it?. What line i.e. manufacturer are you using on that Sage? it just sounds as if it is scraping through those guides.
