Here in NZ all good quality knives are expensive but what I like about cs is the price is about 100-150 bucks cheaper than say spiderco,I love the lawman for it's build quality ,hollow grind back lock and quite lightweight
Nick Shabazz. I'm not a big fan of the name of this knife either but I really like it and enjoy carrying it, its a knife you're not gonna hurt or worry about hurting. It's the only cold steel knife I own and probably the last. If you want to review it, I can send you mine :)
I'm glad you used the words, "Working Knife". That's what I do with knives. No Pretty Boy or fun to Fidget knives for me. I need a knife that is going to perform. I have the Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter and it is a workhorse. I'm also thinking of getting the Recon 1 S35VN and American Law Man in either CTS_XHP or S35vn. Thanks for the video my Bladed Brother!
just got mine becouse of your reviews, instant favorite folder holy shit that hollow is screaming sharp, super slim and for that price? what a steel steal! awesome man
getting my second one...in S35vn because I stupidly sold my XHP version. Great knife. I bought the first one because of this review and I concur with your take on the knife. Thanks.
I love my AD10 but I’m gonna pick this one up after watching this review. If you are talking good about a product I believe it. I bought the crazy Spartan because of your review and I absolutely love that knife
I'm glad you pointed out how the exposed tang can catch pocket fluff , my pockets invariably are half full of sawdust and dirt, so much so I seal the charging port on my phone with putty. Up until that point I was tempted.
You have an excellent eye for detail. Good work. It appears the pocket clip fasteners also attach the scales to the back spacer. The lightweight Manix ll uses a similar one screw attachment. I think, if Cold Steel used one larger pocket clip screw they could straighten the pocket clip and still hold the knife together i.e. the lightweight Manix ll.
I couldn't agree more.. Not a CS fan but the AL is a stand out..I'm a big guy with large, meaty hands. I wish it was a tiny bit wider for better grip.. But, it's still very good..The knife really has no faults.. If only one knife, I'd still take it over my Spyderco PM2s, Manix2s (close though), ZTs, BMs.. Funny, you nailed the pocket clip thing. It makes no friggin sense. Someone needs to contact CS and tell them they can get by with one clip..
Like all your reviews. Have just bought the Code 4 and am very very happy with it. I've carried it all of 2 months. I didn't buy the American Lawman because I have the CRKT Ken Onion Outrage and thought it was too similar in size. Albeit of course not quite equal in performance in terms of blade steel. And G10 scales don't grab me too much! So I'm most happy with my Code 4. I also have 4 Victorinox 110mm blade knives in that size category : the Swiss Soldier knife, Forester, Hunter and Outreach. And several 91 and 93mm Victorinox knives. I feei biased against the Cold Steel Recon1 because of it's shear size, very coarse scales and tactical connotations. Sorry too hear that Cedric is no longer with us. Best wishes for the coming year. Monty Momcilovic, Nairne, South Australia.
My favourite folder as well. Solid, proper, straight forward knife. I have had the first generation for sometime now. It's an indestructible tank & much heavier with steel liners & has gimping in the steel of the lock back as well as the handle & also on the top of the blade where your thumb sits when choked up using the finger choyle. (Sp?) It does have the aggressive G-10 which I am used to & don't mind but it does weigh down light weight shorts, knickers & pants a bit at times. I would no doubt enjoy a lighter version of this knife so & I must needs get this newer one with the CTS XHP steel. I will not replace my old original with it but instead just add to my modest collection. As to the pocket clip, I like it. It is not only an aesthetic design feature in keeping with the curve of the handle but it is quite functional in that it forces the knife to the back/side of your pocket & allows more room to slip your hand past it to grab other items you may have in your pocket. As far as your huge ring of keys; unless you are a janitor or security guard you have no business carrying around that heavy & geeky load every day. A house key & vehicle key should suffice. Any other keys besides being an unsightly burden, can be carried on a needed basis. Just one crotchety old man's opinion after years of carrying stuff around & discovering the freedom of lightening the load. Another good review on a superb knife. It really does cover most bases for almost anyone who wants or needs to carry a pocket knife.
Love the missing (and quite lacking) intro. Love the on point, no BS approach and honest opinion. 10 out of 10 review! ❤️ ( despite the fact that I hate Cold Steel for their bullying on the sanmai BS)
I really like the look and size of the lawman, and I've been debating on getting one, but I just don't know if I want a G10 pancake in my pocket all day.
The lawman is my only cold steel knife and it's a helluva strong knife. CTS-XHP blade, dlc coating, tan scales. The triad lock basically turns a folder into a fixed blade. It's very thin and very light for its strength. G10 is nice and grippy, similar to my pm2 in digicam scales and black dlc. Thinking about getting a code 4 or recon 1. Leaning towards the recon. Enjoy your videos!
Love the lawman, Prefer the holdout 3 though that thing disappears into the pocket. The holdout gets more carry time, but I've killed a lawman through use.
"...somebody who has left hands." Lol I'm not sure if that's an Australian -ism, but I've never heard anyone say 'left-handed' on that way and it made me chuckle just a little bit. I like it, I don't care if it's a legit colloquialism or just a misspeak in this video, but I'm 1000% going to start saying that moving forward. Lmao... That fucking outro... Lol wtf, you're great man lol.
BOOSTEDLASER. I've been carrying the lawman daily for the past 4 months. I was carrying the 940 Osborne and the mini griptilian off and on for the past year, just occasionally switching them out with the lawman, but for the past 4 months the lawman is the only one I've been carrying. I absolutely love it and it's a great "If I only had one knife left." My top 6 carry knives (yes 6, I couldn't do just 5) are the Benchmade 940 Osborne, Spyderco Paramilitary 2, Benchmade mini grip 556, Cold Steel American Lawman, Spyderco Delica 4, and Spyderco Slysz Bowie. I will say that I'm not a huge fan of cold steel and this is the only cold steel knife I own but it's a great knife.
I gave away all folders the day I got my Bark River JX4 Bushbat CPM 154. Neck carry it everyday. Testing my new Bark River JX5 Vengeful 1 for the last 2 days. Loving this thing
I so need to pick one of those bad boys up. I only seen them in stor once I should of picked it up that day. I don't know if it has the same dimensions as the recon but if it does I dont think pocket fluff or pocket junk with stop it from locking up because that is a deep locking hook.
Defrim Isai that is an interesting knife - the ultra sculpted handle kinda puts me off, with the exact finger shapings and stuff, but I'll try it some time
I agree with everything except getting it for a non knife person. Only cause of the back pressure of the triad lock. I have had so many cold steel blades. I really like them but have almost had the blade bite me so so so many times while taking out of my pocket. Either catch a thumb stud on pocket and it half draws like a unintended wave. I just think cs knives are better suited to knife people or at least handy tool oriented guys, or real operators
Maybe it's lacking detent, some CS are tighter than other, it depend on the spring. You can adjust the tension by taking apart the knife and bend a little the spring in the desire direction. Go look on YT, there are probably tuto on how to do it.
Hi, just got mine in a few days ago. So far it seems great. And i like that the new black s35vn is flat grind. As Thin as the small recon1. So far so Good. Easy carry. I like it. It might push my broken scull (what a fucking name) out. It even starts to threaten my pm2. So high hopes. All your fault by the way. Great vid. Keep it up! Thx Johnny, Sweden
"And here is the American Lawman next to the funeral procession of the recently deceased, beheaded widow, loving daughter, caring mother, and wife of the late, great, decapitated chocolate tiny teddy." Then you eat THEM and pour the whole bag on the table. "Aaaand here is the Lawman next to the candelight vigil of mourning chocolate tiny teddies gathered together to remember those lost in the recent tragedy that cost the lives of an entire funeral procession for the beheaded widow and her late, decapitated husband."
Try leving it half open overnight/for a couple days. It should ease that spring up a bit. Maybe try leaving it half open in the fridgerator over night...
For my uses I prefer the manix 2 lightweight in XHP for an all around best under $100. Steel, grind, blade length, weight, ergos, pocket clip, and lock.
Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors Knifecenter-It's still available. Just received mine last week. 🔪👌🏼 Good vid though....there are some great folders to be had from $65-$110
Did You do a choil mod and regrind on this? If so I'd like to know how much You had to grind of the choil, and what angle You reground it to. I just ordered mine a few hours before Your video, and planing to bring the grind back to about 30-35 degrees inclusive.
We have oddly similar views and opinions about knives. I am not a fan of the looks of this knife, it's not bad, but just meh. However I am taking your word and just ordered one in green. Hope it works out, if not it's surely your fault.
Nice knife, but... seems too thin to me, like a ladies knife. That's one of the drawbacks of Cold Steel folders. They look too thin. Also the G10 is not checkered and seems a little utilitarian design, without frills. The pocket clip is standard, no innovative design such as Pohl Force. Also strange that the closed blade has a sort of notch catching into things, and the blade is too short, just like with AK47 folder. Otherwise seems ok, but not my personal preference.
ThisIsAPrettyLongUserNameWhyTheFuckWouldHeDoThatSoThatEveryoneWouldThumbsUpIt totally forgot! I'm uploadig a video with all my pets in it now to make up for it

Can't wait for the review of the Australian Lawman. But in all seriousness, this is high praise, I'll check this knife out :)
+Nick Shabazz jeez you've got me halfway towards a new character there
after the video i really wondered what Nick would think about this knife. Great review Pete. i kind of want one. do they make one in carbon fiber?
Nick Shabazz. I'm not a big fan of the name of this knife either but I really like it and enjoy carrying it, its a knife you're not gonna hurt or worry about hurting. It's the only cold steel knife I own and probably the last. If you want to review it, I can send you mine :)
Tactical Center Yes! I do wonder what Nick would think of this one.
You already did a review of the Australian Lawman. I believe you got it listed under CRKT Wrinkle
The most objective, not nitpicky reviews that I've found. Thanks mate.
Great Review! I love my American Lawman. I have used it extensively and it's never let me down. R.I.P. Mr and Mrs Tiny Teddy.
I'm glad you used the words, "Working Knife". That's what I do with knives. No Pretty Boy or fun to Fidget knives for me. I need a knife that is going to perform. Lots of positive opinions about the American Lawman.

thanks for the review -- you opened my eyes to some subtle positives of this classic blade from CS. love that CTS-XHP!
My recent addition to my cold steel SLR1 lite and CJRB crag as my carry knives.
My favourite folder as well. Solid, proper, straight forward knife. I have had the first generation for sometime now. The size comparison is hilarious. 😂😂😂

Can you explain the last sentence? As a non-American I'm not aware of the different buzz around the knife world out there...
I really like the look and size of the lawman, and I've been debating on getting one, but I just don't know if I want a G10 pancake in my pocket all day.
Hey great video totally agree with every point one of the very best general use knives out there
Its excellent, and one of their best, if not their best, IMHO!
Ya you're wrong. It sucks, and cold Steel sucks too. Total mall ninja knives, which is most likely why you love 'em so much
@@jacobdaus3835 Lol And I suppose you got a Gerber or a SOG instead ^^
The lawman is my only cold steel knife and it's a helluva strong knife. CTS-XHP blade, dlc coating, tan scales. The triad lock basically turns a folder into a fixed blade. It's very thin and very light for its strength. G10 is nice and grippy, similar to my pm2 in digicam scales and black dlc. Thinking about getting a code 4 or recon 1. Leaning towards the recon. srg914 Recon One, 2 thumbs way up. 🖒🖒
Tylee MacDaddy I did get the recon 1, spear point. Super impressed. Fits great in my hand, love the G10 texture. Simply put it's a bad ass knife!
Hell yeah!
Love the lawman, Prefer the holdout 3 though that thing disappears into the pocket.
The holdout gets more carry time, but I've killed a lawman through use.
I've always loved the Lawman!!!
"...somebody who has left hands."

Lmao... That fucking outro... Lol wtf, you're great man lol.
I waiting for this colour on EBAY.😍
I would have to say that imho the Tri-Ad lock is the strongest production lock in the knife business.
Marines I know that use this knife LOVE it. Always wondered why.
Seems like a huge handle and small blade
BOOSTEDLASER. I've been carrying the lawman daily for the past 4 months. Something tells me that you might like the Gayle Bradley first gen. Just hard to find these days.
Ordered it. Thanks!
I so need to pick one of those bad boys up. I only seen them in stor once I should of picked it up that day. I don't know if it has the same dimensions as the recon but if it does I dont think pocket fluff or pocket junk with stop it from locking up because that is a deep locking hook.
Very good Video!!Kind regards from Germany!!
Looking forward to the review of the Mini American Lawman to see how it stands up in its category.
Defrim Isai that is an interesting knife - the ultra sculpted handle kinda puts me off, with the exact finger shapings and stuff, but I'll try it some time
Aslo be good to get your take on a head to head comparison between an American Lawman vs Spyderco Paramilitary 2
I agree with everything except getting it for a non knife person. Only cause of the back pressure of the triad lock. I have had so many cold steel blades. I just think cs knives are better suited to knife people or at least handy tool oriented guys, or real operators
olmmedic I agree. Cold steel is not for beginner knife people.
olmmedic. I've never once had that problem with the lawman. But I don't own any other cold steel knives other than that one.
Maybe it's lacking detent, some CS are tighter than other, it depend on the spring.
You can adjust the tension by taking apart the knife and bend a little the spring in the desire direction. Go look on YT, there are probably tuto on how to do it.
The back spacer is aluminum, A+ choice for an A+ knife
Hi, just got mine in a few days ago. So far it seems great. And i like that the new black s35vn is flat grind. As Thin as the small recon1. So far so Good. Easy carry. I like it. well done and insightful...

i have a hard time getting mine to flip open easily. frustrating because otherwise i love the knife. ant thoughts or reccomendations on this?
Try leving it half open overnight/for a couple days. It should ease that spring up a bit. Maybe try leaving it half open in the fridgerator over night...
Just unscrew a little bit the pivot.
Thanks. Nice review.
Hi sir, what would you choose for edc.
This knife or the buck 110 with s30v?
Newest returns to s35vn (2018) maybe after tarifs kick in Cold Steel will start using higher quality steel???
For my uses I prefer the manix 2 lightweight in XHP for an all around best under $100. Steel, grind, blade length, weight, ergos, pocket clip, and lock.
TheAidansdaddy17 Was that the brown cutleryshop sprint run? I regretted missing that one!
Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors Knifecenter-It's still available. Just received mine last week. 🔪👌🏼 Good vid though....there are some great folders to be had from $65-$110
Put something flat up against the blade and you'll see light come threw if it's hollow
Did You do a choil mod and regrind on this? If so I'd like to know how much You had to grind of the choil, and what angle You reground it to.
I just ordered mine a few hours before Your video, and planing to bring the grind back to about 30-35 degrees inclusive.
Wish they would have kept the handle thickness of the old AUS8 version 😔
For some reason I can't see the links you said you had put on the screen and in the comments about where to buy this?
Great video
We have oddly similar views and opinions about knives. I am not a fan of the looks of this knife, it's not bad, but just meh. However I am taking your word and just ordered one in green. Hope it works out, if not it's surely your fault.
Have you ever actually seen DLC coating that was worn down?
Because I used the hell out of my ColdSteel folding knife and it still looks good
Use it in the woods. You'll see the coating start to wear
Still prefer the Mini Recon 1 CTS@XHP, it just fits better in the pocket.
a great knife, I guess it comes down to choil or no choil a bit, too!
Great review, but now I can't not see the little bird lol
In another video you said this knife is a saber grind
What was that beginning
#Valid. It was already a great knife, and then they XHP'd it.
I thought I’d have this knife forever but I just traded it for some cookies!
HOW THE FUCK... WOULD PEOPLE BE AFRAID OF KNIVES IN THE LAND OF CROCODILE DUNDEE????
Why put a finger troil on a 3 inch knife? I have it but I don't like that
Well it's there if you need it
Is the triad-lock still telfon coated or DLC as well?
It's flat grind...
No intro with Ada......Unsubbed.
ThisIsAPrettyLongUserNameWhyTheFuckWouldHeDoThatSoThatEveryoneWouldThumbsUpIt totally forgot! I'm uploadig a video with all my pets in it now to make up for it
Prefer my code 4 spearpoint.
def not, since you ask.
Stop complaining about the pocket clip
The thing is ugly as fuck. I expected it to be $25. I find it hard to believe this video wasn't uploaded on april first XD
Expected it to be cheap just cos its ugly? or for other reasons relative to its craftsmanship, materials or capabilities?
