Hey, guys. I just wanted to take a moment to say how much I enjoyed this video, and how much I like your style. I just purchased a CIB Wii U and have not had a chance to even play it yet, so I was intrigued about everything you mentioned. I think the first thing I am doing is going to the shop channel and purchasing Earthbound. I am priced out at this point and I am a 100% genuine gamer with no desire for the modding nonsense so I figure the Wii U is the ultimate experience for Earthbound sans the SNES experience. Please keep up the great work and stay true to yourselves as this format is incredible, and top of the line. Take care, all!
About a year ago I unleashed the beast! Now I actually play my WiiU. Before it sat in my closet collecting dust. One day I took it out cleaned the vents of dust and hacked it. Amazing! Recently been playing Sega CD games and arcade games with my son's. WiiU is the best.
I love the wii u I sold my switch collection and re bought everything on the wii u since they are all the same games with some additions. Thank you for making content for it. It doesn't get the love it deserves. I just wish more DS games came to it...
I hear everyone complaining about the battery life for the gamepad, but if you actually charge it fully, it lasts for fucking hours. It takes a long time to fully charge if it's dead though. You can tell it's fully charged if the charging light on the gamepad turns off while on the charger, which I believe should be pretty obvious, but so many people miss this.
Thank you for being maybe the ONLY channel who never were against the Wii U !!! P.S. please do not use the external drive without the electric adaptor, what happens is the usb port from the Wii U does not give to much energy and will brick your console, trust me on that, i have a lot of videos on that topic and ive seen the issue happen !
That Wii u extended battery info is a lifesaver! Thank you! I find the Wii u tablet more comfortable to hold in my hand than the switch tablet. So glad there is simple solution.👩🏽🎤
Dude Zelda games in general are hammer. Windwaker HD, TP HD, BOTW, and all the downloadable games. Literally the ultimate Zelda console to date. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
Tiramisu hack just came out! I wasn’t able to hack it the old way bc I could not make a eShop profile for some reason. Now I finally get to play the games your recommended that are crazy expensive. Thank you for all the games you recommended.
a modded WiiU can play GameCube games on the Gamepad ! PS4 and PC games make bored after a while and make me feel sick , but the WiiU draws a big smile on my face . especially when playing with friends , games like smash bros wiiu, mario kart 8, Mario Bros U , and even Nintendoland , are unique games that give you an amount of joy that no other platform can give .
Wii U is one of my favorite consoles now. Glad I discovered it because of hearing about the eshop closing or I never would have probably. I will continue growing my Wii U collection 💯🙏🏻

Remember folks you can use any old usb hard drive enclosure, doesn't have to be a fancy ssd (though its awesome). Everyones got some old hard drives lying around. It's a cable mess with old stuff but whatever it gets you started.
Cool video. Just discovered you guys. Here's a free tip for anyone who's had issues with gamepad connection stability issues: the gamepad connects to the console via a 5ghz wireless band. If you have a WiFi router broadcasting a 5ghz band, it will interfere with your gamepad connection. As most devices now connect to WiFi via a 2.4ghz band, I just turned off the 5ghz band on my router and it resolved my issues completely.
I just found your channel and subscribed. The WiiU is my favorite console. It's underrated and underappreciated. It has such potential and a great, if small, library of games. I love that I can also use it to control my TV.
It will expensive one day soon to collect for. Im picking up any loose game pads I can find because without one it's gonna be impossible to use some games. In about 5 years the kids who grew up on the Wii u are gonna get nostalgic for it and it'll be in demand.
Hey guys, first off I appreciate these videos you have given us so I will share this to you, your viewers and you reading this... Now that Microsoft is buying Activision and Blizzard now is very important to go for any digital or physical game that peaks your interest (3DS/WiiU/Switch) before they disappear from the Eshop or might become overprice in the future.
Good tip but even more urgent for Sony platforms. MS seems to have them in the crosshairs. Meanwhile MS is making nice with Nintendo for the moment and doing stuff like Banjo Kazooie on the Switch's expansion pass. Probably just waiting for the right to strike. ;)
I bought a wii u a while back and to get it I had to sell my ps3. I wanted a wii but my brother owned part of the ps3 and wanted something that could play more modern games. We settled on the Wii u and I've loved it sinse. I still miss the ps3 time to time but oh well. The only downside is we have no pro controllers and a small amount of games. Ive homebrewed it but we dont even have the Wi-Fi to take it further
The best part in my eyes is, that the modding scene (especially softmodding) is still active, and back then it was possible to coldboot to a cfw directly but only with a DS Virtual Console game which had a brick chance if you manage to delete the title somehow without deleting the mod from the wiiu before. Now (a few weeks back), hackers found another exploit to do it even without a ds game and its safer. i am wondering why the wiiu even had so many negative reviews, it truly is a really well developed system for me.
I actually modded my Wii U 2 days ago. Super easy. Sd card with sd to usb, pc, Wii U. All you need for softmodding and the easiest way to mod it altogether.
That sounds awesome! We plan on picking up another Wii U to do it someday soon! We always like to have at least 2 of each console the way it is but it will be nice to have a modded console to have the whole catalog! Cheers!

@@wouter1930 anything up to 2TB with an external power source. You can also use a Y cable like they showed in this video. Your Wii U will automatically format it .
Like that tip on the external--that's a good one and an absolute must for sure. Ooooh, didn't know about that better gamepad battery--digging that tip too.
We got the one we have from ifixit.com. It's been a beast so far and has doubled the battery life. I think there are some on eBay too but some of them seem sketchy
The best combo to have is a WiiU and gamecube... u can double up or even triple up ur library on the wii u with the wii games n the games on the eshop. On the gamecube u have that whole library and if u got the gameboy player it a wrap u can quadruple that library with gb, gbc, and gba games
The Wii U Pro controller is one of my favourite controllers, and it is one of my 2 main controllers that I use on my PC. It has the longest battery life of any controller I have ever seen. If you mod your Wii U, you will have the ability to fully play Gamecube games upscaled to 1080p through Nintendont app, assuming that you have already ripped your games to a USB or an SD card since it can't the mini discs.
I was upset to have my used Wii U getting banned from the previous owner before me. Homebrewing my system afterwards has led me to put the system as my 2nd favorite Nintendo console. I can run GC games with Nintendont and play NES/SNES games on Retroarch. Wii backwards compatibility is also a huge plus for me as I missed out from that era and can play some (at this point in time) exclusives from the Wii U.
Thanks for the video,I also would like to chance the battery of my gamepad.Fact for recent Wiiu owners “Captain Toad treasure tracker”Came to Nintendo switch. But they took out some levels and replaced It with Super Mario odessey levels instead. Also get “Duck hunt”for Nes they improved the controls now you can play it with the Wii remote!
If you're comfortable with soldering there's some nice hard mods you can do. I added USB C power to the console, Gamepad charging cradle, and the Gamepad itself so I don't have use those proprietary cables. By bridging the two 5V pads in the rear USB ports, you can essentially build a Y cable into the system as one port can draw power from the other. I hate Y cables because its super easy for either plug to get knocked loose and crash the game/cause corruption. It is technically possible to get a SSD physically inside of it and wire the cord to a USB port.
@@LennyQUMFIF Transfer speed will no doubt suffer over USB2. I'd think access speed should still be noticeably better over a hard drive. I've seen modder comments that a cheapy M2 SSD on a USB adapter is at least 3x faster than the Wii U's eMMC. Certainly piqued my interest. I think I'll be trying that out for myself in the coming months.
@@bubba842 That's incorrect, the Gamepad charger connector that was used by the Gamepad and charging cradle is proprietary. I'm not sure why, it's pretty much 5V along with the GBA SP/DS, DS Lite, GBA Micro, and DSi/3DS chargers but all of those are different connectors. Case in point, there's USB C mods for almost all of these and USB adapter cables have been available for years. You're thinking of the Wii U Pro controllers which were Mini USB.
Free on line gaming on the wii u. Mclassic adaptor makes it look even more amazing. I was able to play metal slug anthology in 480p on the wii u (not possible on wii)
Yeah!!! I believe ya gotta have at least 3 Wii U's. One to Frankenstein!!! One to keep and use stock. And one for a spare, maybe for your grand kids!!!!
Don't forget that the battery life on the Pro Controller is a beast. I don't think I have ever played with a controller that lasts as long. I think you can get 80 hours out of it.
I got a wiiu, it should arrive today, i sold my first wiiu for the switch and now i can finally get my games back, tough i need to mod it because most of my disks are sold/scratched

Thanks, Gents! The pro controller is one of my favorite controllers. Do you have a specific battery recommendation? I've bought two and both are larger batteries but no better than the standard one (even though specs say otherwise)
I just use a 256 GB USB drive, because it’s a lot smaller and doesn’t require anything else. However I would consider an external hard drive to be more efficient and better. Luckily I haven’t had any issues with my USB flash drive.
Been seeing Wii U in the news lately with the imminent eshop closure and NAND issues, so just got mine out of storage and relieved it still works. My gosh it certainly takes a long time to download and install digital games - I’ve been spoiled by Series X and Switch speeds. Will be worth it to play the HD Zelda games, Xenoblade X and Metroid Prime trilogy though.
I would add that when buying " top up nintendo cards" from yhe store you can use the same credit from the same account to buy games on wii u and switch simultaneously.
@@maniac1628 The Wii U’s GPU is essentially a beefed up Wii… which was a slightly improved Gamecube. So the Wii U is able to play Gamecube games natively, it just needs to be soft modded to be able to read the files. But you’re right, you can’t stick a Gamecube disc in the system and have it boot. But it IS capable of reading .DOL files, which is what GC is. Trust me.

I homebrewed my Wii on the Wii U, but I haven't homebrewed the Wii U itself. I've been hesitant, however with the Eshop closing I'm getting a bit nervous about backing up my digital games. I need to look into getting this done. I have two Wii U consoles, but I really don't want to brick even one of them. Guess I better get to researching.
SSD & USB to SATA is the ONLY way to go! Hard Drive = eventual head crash = extreme sadness. This happened to me, now all of my retro consoles that can have external USB storage have SSD's. Also, you don't need a Y splitter because the single USB port has plenty of power for the SSD.
I’ve tried upgrading my Wii U gamepad battery several times and EVERY time the battery is no good. I’ve tried getting all different sorts of brands and, nope, never works. And Nintendo doesn’t sell legit batteries anymore. Maybe I’m just unlucky but it sucks.
the fact that there have been a lot of ports and people think that will drive down demand for wii u isn't true cause people are already wanting the wii u versions because of the exclusive gameplay elements it provides

TOTAL MISSED OPPORTUNITY they didn't do this with their 3DS library (especially since they offered cross-buy on some games, etc).... So much potential!!!
Recently a guy made a homebrew app for Wii U that let you stream your 3ds games, and play them on tv using the pro controller. Its amazing! Nintendo totally could do this at the time
You guys convinced me to finally buy a Wii U last year. Got the black version with all components for $150 and built up my library very quickly. Also, unexpected bonus, I found a brand new SNES mini on the same day at the same shop!
Hell ya dude! Hope you are enjoying. Incredible pick ups as we consider both must owns. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Thanks guys! Love the channel. Keep up the quality content!
I just bought a Wii U before it blows up in price, and thanks to this video I'm thinking on expanding the battery since I want to play mostly portable
Inherited a wii u from my nephew. Busted screen and few flaws. 65$ later it's in tip top shape. Loving the system. Trying to download as much as I can and upgrade the system as well. Love your wii u vids.
My advice, use an SSD external hard drive for your Wii U. 1) It doesn’t require a y-cable and 2) It’s much more stable.
Will games on the Wii U load faster with a SSD vs a HDD?
@@UltraMAGA_420 nope, it's mostly for a longevity and convenience thing since the wi u only supports usb 2.0 so there's no performance benefit of using an ssd
Thanks so much for all your Wii U content guys. I've been playing mine all week and having an absolute blast. It's just so fun to flip between playing something like Tokyo Mirage Sessions on an HD TV to seamlessly playing one of the GBA Kirby games on the gamepad. Keep it coming!
Never knew about the game pad batteries, definitely gonna look into that! Thanks fellas
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. Really appreciate your feedback. Enjoy that Wii U! Cheers!
Injections :D
I hear everyone complaining about the battery life for the gamepad, but if you actually charge it fully, it lasts for fucking hours. It takes a long time to fully charge if it's dead though. You can tell it's fully charged if the charging light on the gamepad turns off while on the charger, which I believe should be pretty obvious, but so many people miss this.
we are speaking overtime. it does wear out. but yeah its important to make sure its fully charged
@@GamingOffTheGrid I've had my Wii U since the beginning of it's lifespan, and I still have the original battery.
That gamepad battery swap just blew my mind, you guys are amazing. Will be doing that asap!
²⁰
I love the Wii U Pro Controller so much that I use it on my Mac for emulation. Works so well!
I bought a Wii U in 2019 two years after buying a switch. I love it and I play it more than my Switch now!
Thank you for talking about the external hard drive. I had asked y’all about it the other night on the live stream. Great show as always.
That Wii u extended battery info is a lifesaver! Thank you! I find the Wii u tablet more comfortable to hold in my hand than the switch tablet. So glad there is simple solution.👩🏽🎤
yeah you definitely need it because it feels like battery life can be short on the tablet
The Wii U was a fun pick up after I had been going hard with the ps4 and Xbox one. HD windwaker felt insane
Good luck in your Wii U journey! Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid thanks guys! I’ll make sure I watch the rest of your Wii U related content, I’ve seen some of the other ones you guys did on best Wii U games
Lots of good information in this video, thank you!!!! I underutilize my WiiU but you guys are making me want to take a deeper dive into all the possibilities. Hope all is well for you guys, Cheers!!!
RIP Wii U eShop
yeah unfortunately all these systems shops go away. the reason we like physical
Remember folks you can use any old usb hard drive enclosure, doesn't have to be a fancy ssd (though its awesome). Everyones got some old hard drives lying around. It's a cable mess with old stuff but whatever it gets you started.
Yeah. SSDs have no advantages because its USB 2.0, so no extra speed
Glad you found us! Thanks for the tip as well. Appreciate it. Cheers!
Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid using nusspli, I’m able to download any game that is on the eshop, free of charge! I didn’t even know I could do this!! I’m downloading Mario kart 8 currently and the best part, I didn’t need to spend a penny.
By the way, nusspli is a home brew app that comes with installing the home brew environment, called aroma. So totally suggest you homebrewing a Wii U in the future, cuz there is so much stuff that you can do with it
You guys seem like super nice dudes. True fans. Love the energy and excitement in the video.
Just picked up a free white Wii U (only have to replace the console battery) to download some of the cool eshop games.
Nothing better than $FREE.99. Great deal for you. Cheers!
I loved the Wii U. I would play a lot of Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition on it.
Great advice lads.
I wasn’t aware of the bigger battery for the gamepad 👍🏻👍🏻
I absolutely love the Wii U i still play it too this day from time to time i havent played it lately but i still enjoy the system and im glad i got it last year
These Wii U videos are going crazy on your channel
I’m disappointed they couldn’t find a way to make the Switch handheld and on TV at same time.
I literally just bought a physical copy of Game and Wario for like 35 I snagged it so fast I couldn’t believe it
Hell of a deal! Well done sir. I bet your heart was racing when you seen that price. That's what happens to me anyway lol. Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid Guys my freaking heart was racing and I was checking out so fast lol and that was on a ask too o saw him posting WII U games and I said do you have Game and Wario and he messaged back saying game and wario is posting now incoming after that I had to ask if he had Devil third lol Cheers! Guys
Great video guys! I just ordered 2 brand new. Original Nintendo oem extended batteries for my 2 Wii U gamepads! Just to keep for the future. I have 2 Wii U consoles, a Japanese one for imports and an American console as well. Loving the Wii U content!
Where did you find your official OEM extended life batteries? I see some on Amazon and eBay and it's hard to tell if they're fakes
I own 2 Wii U’s thanks to you guys! A white one and a black Zelda one. Both connected to beautiful HD CRT Tvs. I have a 2TB external Hard drive connected to both. Also, the updates of the games are massive in data size sometimes.
Which external hard drive is compatibel with the Wii U?
Bought mine in 2020 just before everything shut down from COVID. Love it!! Retro arch on it is amazing as well!
We love the controller also! We plan to mod a Wii U someday! Cheers!
I was upset to have my used Wii U getting banned from the previous owner before me. Homebrewing my system afterwards has led me to put the system as my 2nd favorite Nintendo console. I can run GC games with Nintendont and play NES/SNES games on Retroarch. Wii backwards compatibility is also a huge plus for me as I missed out from that era and can play some (at this point in time) exclusives from the Wii U.
oh dang that sucks. part of buying things off people. yeah the wii u is very underrated we definitely love it. thank you for watching. cheers
Oh man it’s good timing for UA-cam to recommend this video. Sad that eShop has a year left got to prepare
yeah we are sad about it but all consoles go thru it. thats why we recommend physical if possible
You can also do Surround sound, but you need a LPCM HDMI decoder to use it.
Yeah.
But the thing is that Dolby Digital with the TOSLINK (optical) cable is compressed 5.1, while LPCM is uncompressed and sounds better.
But its USB 2 right? So no extra SSD speeds
The cables are not proprietary. They are either micro USB or mini USB.
Haha what garbage mods
@@bubba842 That's incorrect, the Gamepad charger connector that was used by the Gamepad and charging cradle is proprietary.
I'm not sure why, it's pretty much 5V along with the GBA SP/DS, DS Lite, GBA Micro, and DSi/3DS chargers but all of those are different connectors. Case in point, there's USB C mods for almost all of these and USB adapter cables have been available for years.
You're thinking of the Wii U Pro controllers which were Mini USB.
I just picked up my first Wii U system for $50, I can’t wait to start playing it!
awesome pickup. we think you will enjoy it
Great tips! I didn't know about the extended battery, but I'm definitely getting one now.
The USB Y cable solved the problem of the drive disconnecting for me. Thank You!
Sounds like us :). That’s a great battle plan for sure. Cheers!
Homebrew it, and you're set for life. MY GOD, the amount of good titles playable on the WII U is insane.
For sure we need to do that! We like having physical also! Cheers!
For the record, those are not OEM batteries. I’ve looked into it and those are all made by 3rd parties. They still can work but they also can be bunk.
Don't forget that the battery life on the Pro Controller is a beast. I don't think I have ever played with a controller that lasts as long. I think you can get 80 hours out of it.
Yea 80 freaking hours.
I've only charged it like 5 times in my entire life LMAO (i have it since like 2014)
Got a Wii U for Christmas, great investment! Thanks for the video!
Ok ok ok...I FINALLY bought one and I think the first game I'm going after is Breath of the Wild! You guys talked me into it and I took the dive!
Enjoy brotha! Pretty sure you’ll love it. Cheers!
I got a wiiu, it should arrive today, i sold my first wiiu for the switch and now i can finally get my games back, tough i need to mod it because most of my disks are sold/scratched
Excellent console to mod. I have our Wii modded but still need to mod a Wii U. Enjoy. Cheers!
Got mine in Christmas of 2012. Best console I’ve ever owned. Amazing rig, Pikmin 3 was legendary
I'm very new to the U so this video was great to watch! Appreciate the knowledge drop!
The Wii U videos are absolute gold!!
They been having a lot of sales lately as well , I also noticed that the Majora's Mask and Punch out stay on sale which is odd , but 2 bucks can't beat it .
For which system? Majora's Mask on N64 is currently $9.99 on the WiiU eShop.
Damn. Makes me miss our Wii U. Loved playing retro games on the tablet lol. Once I soft modded the console man. Total game changer. REALLY opened up the library
Yeah we plan on doing it someday! Wii U library is amazing! Cheers!
@@GamingOffTheGrid so is the Wii and GameCube library. First played Gauntlet Dark Legacy on the Wii U thanks to Nintendont. What an awesome machine. It does not get the love it deserves
It definitely doesnt! Absolute powerhouse!
Greetings from the QC! Heading up there in a few weekends and then back up to Decorah for y'all know what's up there :) anyways. Yes thank you from another Wii u enthusiast, I've argued your points so much around here and it's the only system hooked up to the projector. I have all my other systems but go back to wiiU time and time again. Yeah I need that extended battery too... right now Playing Axiom Verge and holy cow, just perfect for the system. Great video and good beer indeed!
Hell ya dude! Good ol' Toppling Goliath :). Enjoy Axiom Verge. Epic game and just a tough sweeter on the Wii U. Cheers!
I definitely just went and bought an OEM 3600 mAh replacement battery for my game pad after watching the video. Good looking out guys!!!
Great video guys and you raised some awesome points. The WiiU so great but unfortunately overlooked by many. Our WiiU is one of our most played consoles thanks to Mario Kart. Keep up the great work guys!
Great video! Love to see the Wii U love
The wiiu has become my favorite console after Re modding it again. I own the wiiu since day one 😎 great video 👍
We love it also! So underrated and under appreciated! Cheers!
Yeah that is one perk of newer consoles is load times are fast so when you go back there is definitely a wait! Cheers!
I would add that when buying " top up nintendo cards" from yhe store you can use the same credit from the same account to buy games on wii u and switch simultaneously.
Nice to see Firetrucker randomly on a UA-cam video.
Haha for sure man! We like sprinkling in those kind of nuggets! Cheers!
The Wii U is also one of the best consoles to mod because of it can natively play Gamecube and Wii games.
The Wii U can’t play GameCube games
@@maniac1628 The Wii U’s GPU is essentially a beefed up Wii… which was a slightly improved Gamecube. So the Wii U is able to play Gamecube games natively, it just needs to be soft modded to be able to read the files. But you’re right, you can’t stick a Gamecube disc in the system and have it boot. But it IS capable of reading .DOL files, which is what GC is. Trust me.
i love using the wii u pro controller on my raspberry pi as the wii u.i have had my wii u since launch and modded it when a mod was released and you just cant beat it.love playing snes a genesis light gun games on the wii u
I have a Wii U had it since 2019, had ordered a Switch Lite It had came in today
Guess I better get to researching.
yeah for sure. gotta get your games locked up before you cant get them at all
SSD & USB to SATA is the ONLY way to go! Hard Drive = eventual head crash = extreme sadness. This happened to me, now all of my retro consoles that can have external USB storage have SSD's.
Also, you don't need a Y splitter because the single USB port has plenty of power for the SSD.
I installed Satellite Navigation on my Wii U and I keep it in my car. It helps me when I got on my game hunts.
No you didnt
I’ve tried upgrading my Wii U gamepad battery several times and EVERY time the battery is no good. I’ve tried getting all different sorts of brands and, nope, never works. And Nintendo doesn’t sell legit batteries anymore. Maybe I’m just unlucky but it sucks.
the fact that there have been a lot of ports and people think that will drive down demand for wii u isn't true cause people are already wanting the wii u versions because of the exclusive gameplay elements it provides
The best part of Homebrew your wii U is to have FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY with ALL GameCube Games!
I'm astonished Nintendo didn't add Gamecube games to their eShop. The hardware can do it and the Gamecube has many games that would sell.
@@classicpctinker5070 gamecube games could be a system seller of wii u during 2015-2016. Nintendo potentially lost a lot of money by ignoring this
Where can we learn how to play GC games on a WiiU?
