Eklund is a wery good driver
And to think that the night before this race, his team had to go to the nearest SAAB dealership and grab a stock, off the shelf 2.3L Viggen motor and install it in that car. So he essentially was running 800 hp through the same motor that came in the cars on the show room floor. There were no special pistons or other engine internals. The problem was that he had built that car over in Sweden and it's race engine was tuned for Euro gas and when they got to pikes peak, with the elevation and American gas, the engine wasn't running right. So they had to pull the specialty tuned and built race engine, throw a stock one in, tune it to push crazy numbers and then win the race. Imagine what his time would have been if the engine that they had specially built for the race had worked flawlessly. Amazing that the stock engine was still running perfectly as he finished the race. but hey, that's a saab 4 cyl Turbo for ya!

@@saabturboguy they also said most veterans doing pikes peak used oxygen to get enough air to the drivers, and they didnt know that so they went without making him much more tired near the top.

When they got to the race site and Per sat in his race car waiting on his turn, one of the race master’s said “watch the sun, watch the sun!” because per didn’t have any sunglasses on. Per reply’s “I’ve seen the sun before”. He quickly did realize that the warning wasn’t for nothing. So on places on the track he had to drive with one hand and shield his eyes from the sun with the other. Proper legend 🇸🇪
I wonder what time he would get or do today, since that road now is all tarmac..
and this car they built in a garage basiclly with the hometown petrolheads, no big sponsors or company beeing there diddeling with the car. and he crushed racers who had tuning companies etc behind them.

YES the T5 stock internals on a b204/b234 (Saab NG900/9000/OG 9-3) can handle about 800HP. If you still don't accept reality. Talk to the big Saab tuners in Sweden, Nordic, Maptun etc. they will tell you the same thing. End of discussion
This was a TROLLSPEED engine - NOT a stock T5 - :-) They fitted a extra EXTRA large turbochagrer so it could pump enough air way up at 4000m above sealevel too.

@@TeamDriftEVO Could you also elaborate on TROLLSPEED manufacturing new cranks, conrods etc etc, or might they just have been. STOCK SAAB INTERNALS? Maybe it was the Hörsgård special edition
