Bill, to remove the expanding wall anchor you remove the screw almost all the way out, then tap gently on the screw head to unexpand the anchor behind the wall. Then you can easily pull the whole anchor out and in fact reuse it if you want.

Ah, finally an Aussie and with the info I needed. Already had one disaster with that metal ramset plug thing leaving a huge hole when it didn't catch.. Have a box of some wallmates i haven't used and i'll be using those now. Cheers.

Great helpful video, just fyi for you and other viewers, the kilograms to pounds conversion is wrong, 10kg = 22 pounds, 20kg = 44 pounds (easy way is to multiply by 2.2, or double the initial weight in kg, and then add 10%) in the video I believed you just added 10%. Cheers

I'd always suggest making sure that the plug is a tight fit. Then I'd normally screw into drywall fixings by hand. Every tradesman I know has their own preferred fixings to be fair. Horses for courses. Great vid from London, England
i use them all the time , they are the best thing for down ward force items and the quickest to use .
Can the steel wall mate ones be used on hollow doors to hang a towel hook?

What would you recommend for wall mount TV, the mount is two pieces a L&R bracket. On each piece it says use 4 screws, obviously 2 of them will be in a stud, what would you recommend for the other 2?
Hi there. Just watching your video. You answered alot of questions for me. And saved me alot of headaches. But just looking at the plastamate anchors and cannot find the ones that take 20kg. Can you please tell me where I can get them
The wall plug that pushed through is only good for bricks and masonry jobs. Those wall mates can be troublesome too and spin in plaster when fixing. I prefer anchor plugs which grab really hard , secure and are quicker to install .
I want to fix an Outdoor Sensor Lights to the Suffice (Eaves) of my House. The Eaves are standard thickness Fibro..What would be suitable Anchors for Fibro ?.
Good video. Never use those plastic anchors that come in your installation kit. Guaranteed , I'll come out to fix the towel rail you've just installed. They're actually designed for masonary. One of those anchors needs a setting tool to work correctly. But love the wallmates. If you use the Ramset range, I'm sure you'll find a good anchor for your purpose.

Just double checking...with the Wallmate, would you say they safe enough for not just side plaster walls, but as ceiling mounts - such as mounting ceiling lights like LED panels - probably only 1 to 2 kg?
Do you use a wall anchor setting tool and if you do, which one do you use?
Great video. 👍 With the Wallmate, I was thinking of also using a picture hanging hook to hang something via a wire. It may be more durable if not over 15kg or so as the hanging hook will have limitations. What do you think?

When removing wall plugs in the US we have three terms.
Pull it: obviously this means to pull it out of the wall, trying to do as little damage as possible of course.
Send it down the road: this means you don’t want to give it a whole lot of force, the idea is to get it into the surface but not through.
Send it home: obviously means bang it threw the wall.
This is all for the courtesy of the next Trades Person. Which would be determined by the amount of damage done during the removal process.
The Painters will only fix a hole on the wall the size of a $.25 piece or smaller, this is due to drying time which could impede the speed of the job.
So if the hole is bigger than a $.25 piece because of unexpected damage during the pulling process you will need to call a Drywall Finisher.
Or on the off chance that you may be the next guy in line.😉
All so if you “send it down the road” it leaves a little backing, making it so the painter can use a smaller amount of patching compound which will speed up the drying time. With the toggles that leave a little plastic lip on the wall, what I do is grab a 6 inch “plaster board knife” we call it a Broad knife. Take the drywall knife and lay it on the wall flat about 2 feet away from the plastic lip, using the palm of your hand on the butt of the handle quickly sliding the knife up the wall cut the top lip off. With some practice this becomes extremely simple. Next you want to turn your Broad knife over and using the butt of the handle which should have a hammerhead on it, some do and some don’t so if you don’t have a Broad knife with a hammer head on it it would be a good purchase to make. Use that hammer head, lightly tap the plastic “ Sending it down the road” leaving a little backing in the wall to again speed up drying time. Although you want to make sure you do sink it into the surface about 2/32 of an inch. Or it may come through your patching compound during sanding.

Honestly, they wall mates (different name in UK) are literally the WORST plasterboard fixings. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole
Although, they are better than cheap red wall plugs.

What happens if the screw gets stuck in the white wall anchor and both come out together? Is there an easy way to get the screw out of the anchor?

Hi Bill - Do you typically use screws shorter than 40mm or do you knowingly crack the tip point after screwing in with the Ramset 10kg wall-mate anchors? I personally find that the 10KG ones lose grip in the drywall if you use longer screws.
Keeping in mind that the 20kg wall-mates are designed to snap at the tip and widen into the plasterboard for added strength.
The 10kg anchors are not designed for long screws. The 20kg anchors are designed to cater for longer screws and hold more weight so I tend to always purchase the 20kg. 👍

@@billshowto thank you. It’s always scary hanging up a TV on a drywall/plasterboard. As well, using 4 or more of these would increase the weight distribution and stability. TVs are getting larger these days.
I am constantly repairing the aftermath these spiral drill in fixings make ..general builders and lazy fixers use them a lot. Especially in new builds

I use the expanding hollow wall anchors as a get me out of trouble fixing. Toggle fixings help sometimes.
Tests have proven that wall mates fail under less load than the little plastic ones you were mocking.

1kg is 2.2 lbs 20kg is 44lbs.
To remove the aluminum plug... you can carefully use a angle grinder to remove the outer lip. Once you’ve ground away the outer lip with the two small teeth... push the rest through the gypsum board and it will fall inside.
It’s not an ideal method but it works and leaves a much cleaner hole than trying to force the plug out.

I say avoid self-drilling-type wall plugs like the plague. The mere act of inserting them grinds up the very gypsum upon which they rely for shear load support, and their lack of any purchase on the rear drywall face renders them useless at tensile or cantilever loads. Jostling them in any way further chews up the already-compromised gypsum holding them in place, and once the paper sheathing inevitably tears they rip out unceremoniously leaving you with a nasty hole in your wall and your shelves on the floor. The only thing they do reliably is fail.

plastic Wallmates have a tendency to cam out on the Philips driver end and break in the commercial grade gyprock sheet
you used the wrong screw with the first 3 plastic ones making the installs fail on purpose...
those wall anchors should come with screws. at least the ones i get do, and i have no issue removing them...
never had to shove them into the wall. just back them out so a few threads are holding it and gently pull..........
all the holes they make take exactly the same amount of work to repair so no use crying about it either way.
unless of course you punched the anchors into the wall with your fist its an easy repair.
Zinc zip-its and toggle bolts. There i saved you 18 minutes.
The plastic self tapping ones are absolute crap sir. Use the metal ones instead. Zip togglers are actually the best to use to hold the most weight.

Alot wrong here, weights all wrong, didn't look flush on the wall, hole repairs would be the same, not hard to remove the first three definitely dont need to be destroying more of the wall to get them out. Looks like a paid partnership but no notice of it being an advert

I'd never use those self-tapping 'helter skelter' type plugs. They're absolute shite, and shame on you for pushing them.

Don't see the point of using those things. With studs at 450mm centres, why not fix into that for a strong long lasting fix. You would only need a screww which you can easily remove and patch. At worst you would be 200mm away from your ideal location which isn't a big deal.
