You can’t go wrong with this track, when you have legendary musicians and artist adding their talents, legendary Bassist Louis Johnson, the Brothers Johnson period, Patti Austin doing background vocals, George Duke,Herbie Hancock, etc. too many to mention on this album, George Benson is a phenomenal Guitarist,
George Benson is an amazing jazz guitarist. He did several collaboration albums.with Earl Klugh in the early 1980s that are pure fire. Most of his charted hits are jazz flavored pop which kind of downplay his guitar playing. His cover of "On Broadway" is probably his biggest hit and definitely worth a listen.
This song was 1980. The awesome back-up bass guitarist on this song was Louis Johnson from the Johnson brothers. If you want to hear Louis Johnson's hits with his brother, George aka George ("Lightnin' Licks") and Louis E. Johnson ("Thunder Thumbs"), react to: "Strawberry Letter 23", "Stomp", and "I'll Be Good to You". RIP Louis. x
I had the absolute privilege of listening to George Benson and Minnie Rippertonthankful. Good times. Roller skating, heck yeah. In that Er thankful aaa, check out William DeVau thankful
This song was released in the summer of 1980 but still had that 70's sound. Roller skating was huge around that time. Fun fact: the woman who George Benson was romancing in the video is Ola Ray, who was in the Michael Jackson "Thriller" video. I definitely recommend listening to Benson's "Turn Your Love Around" released in 1981 and "On Broadway" released in 1978, which are two more of his biggest songs. Also, since George Benson is known as a jazz artist, another rabbit hole you should start is Herb Albert. He had his biggest hit in 1979 called "Rise" which is an instrumental that you would love. It's jazzy with a touch of disco to reflect the era. You two would love it. He also has been going at it since the 60's I believe and is known for the Tijuana sound. His comeback hit that got younger people knowing his music was "Diamonds" with Janet Jackson released in 1987. That was a huge club song and I recommend listening to that one also. You guys rock!!!!!!
George Benson is from the Hill District of Pittsburgh. He earned his chops at the Hurricane Bar and the legendary Crawford Grill, where Earl "Fatha" Hines, Lena Horne, Art Blakey, and many others graced the visitors with their music.
Saw him live years ago. GREAT show. George started as a jazz musician and started singing on his records in the early 70's when he crossed over to become a multi format star. A rare gem of a talent.
A VERY talented guy who struck GOLD with this gem. Working for a Major airline I had the pleasure of having him and his entire band on my flight to Europe. Not only gifted, but in person funny a s****! Give ME the Night
Definitely a Quincy Jones production, always so classy, you can always tell! LA style, California style , recorded in 1979 and released on 1980, the video made me want to visit LA! That was probably Venice Beach where they were roller skating, I bet people were trippin to see this man I nice clothes roller skating and playing the guitar. and speaking of which, that scat he was doing , he was scatting along to match his guitar playing, that’s one of George Benson’s signatures, as he is also a jazz guitar virtuoso, he is known for that as much as he is known for his smooth jazzy singing. He was already a Jazz legend when this was released, and this became his best selling album.
One of my high school crushes. Love, love, love George Benson! FYI, GIVE ME THE NIGHT came out in 1980. You can also check out TURN YOUR LOVE AROUND, THIS MASQUERADE, ON BROADWAY, MOODY’s MOOD, NEVER GIVE UP ON A GOOD THING and THE GREATEST LOVE OF ALL. More George Benson standouts.
George Benson is one of the giants of music. He is originally from my hometown of Pittsburgh Pa. I used to watch him play at the “Swizzle Stick” Lounge in Pittsburgh many years ago. Since you guys Are from Baltimore, I hope you still like George since he is from Pittsburgh! He is the total package. Great singer, great musician and outstanding performer in person. I was pleased that you recognized another group from Pittsburgh, The Skyliners. “Since I don’t Have You” and “This I Swear”. You 2 have excellent musical taste!
Thanks for reacting to the very handsome George Benson, when I first heard his guitar & voice I was hooked & went out and bought his LP’s, still have them !! He is sooo groovy 🕺💃💜💥🎸☮️
Ahh I remember the first time I saw George in concert. I was 18 in 1983. He came out and did 30 mins of jazz guitar ... I was a fan for life. Listen to his original version of ... the greatest love of all.... or on Broadway or Beyond the sea... I could go on for ever lol
You already reacted to this song, but, not the video. Love seeing the younger generation discover the music from yesteryear. Love GB. I grew up on this. ❤
My all time favorite George Benson song ❤. He is a jazz guitarist as well as fantastic singer; please react to his music only song “Ascension”; it’s fire. “This Masquerade” is so elegant and “Love X Love” is 80’s light R&B perfection ❤
Affectionately known as "Georgie B" here in the UK. The man was massive in his hey day.... I have so many of his songs on vinyl Great tune then, and a great tune today, great music never fades away 🎶
This was actually a 1980 song. Another great song off this album is Love X Love, the first track on the album. Give Me The Night sounds like something off the Michael Jackson's album Thriller and that's because it was produced by the same person, Quincy Jones.
Absolutely LOVE this song, and I have since I first heard it as a kid. Glad y’all did the video. He’s smooth as butter on those skates. (And off) So much charisma! 🙂💝💙
I love this song and George Benson’s voice is sexy! This is very R&B/ contemporary jazz! This was a huge hit when released in 1980! We just had so much great and different music to choose from in the eighties! ❤❤
My mom had the album with this song on it! George used to wrk with the great Quincy Jones too. This song might be from “The Dude”, not sure. Quincy did a great song called “Betcha Wouldn’t Hurt Me “ featuring vocals by Patti Austin . I’m sure y’all would love it.
My father and I listened to George Benson all the time in the 70's and 80's! Weekend In L.A. was my introduction to George Benson in 1978, I was 13, great album! We both loved to listen to him sing the notes as he was playing his guitar! Another artist we loved was Lou Rawls!
Do I love the video, him on the roller skates with the guitar playing and singing, so cool! He is a legend, for real!! I just saw him a few months ago, where he did most of his famous hits!! Yes it was in the 70’s!
George Benson said he learned to play the guitar because he learned to scat. Also listen to "On Broadway" he does his whole guitar scat. He's featured on his songs breezin, turn your love around, this masquerade, and the greatest love of all.
you want the night so much until it turns into the morning and you're still listening to george Benson. no joke, i did that few nights ago until 130am listening to a lot of 70s and 80s black top singers very late.
George Benson gets little recognition compared to others, but he is a living legend....Great guitar player, super smooth voice.
Absolutely
The songwriter get's even less, but George did a great job.
I agree 100%
He’s incredible! Love George!
We did have the best music! 🎶

Damn! That lineup, whew, legendary.

On Broadway is another good one from him!
He’s on tour, go see him!
Loved George Benson growing up in the 70s and 80s ❤
Released in 1980, it was written by Rod Temperton, the man who wrote "Thriler". So, you KNOW it's a CLASSIC!!
And all the songs from Heatwave (Boogie Nights, Always and Forever) of which he was a member
@@brgreg8725 ABSOLUTELY!
And Michael Jacksons number one hit Rock With You. Strange to think he was an old white guy from England.
Real talent. He is literally singing the guitar solo.. real guitarist
He’s literally playing the scatted notes simultaneously while singing them. Whoever made this video definitely did not do him justice
This is from 1980 and roller skating was still very popular.
Much talent- happy & upbeat💪
Jazz funk at it’s finest💯
Yes she is bro. Lucky man. "Turn Your Love Around". another good one by him.
This song was released in the summer of 1980 back when skating was still popular.
