Larry King? Yes. yes it was.
Hahaha
@@Diegesis I think I'm falling...
No no that's clearly Hugh Hefner
Hehe 🤭
Captain America remains my favorite part of the MCU. This movie is solid, but he just gets better from this point on. Also, that line of "I had a date" always kills me.
definitely agree that he gets better from here and also love the "i had a date" bit
he's always been my favourite marvel hero.
Grew up in the 90s, in the UK. Was the geek kid who actually read the comics and watched the Saturday morning Marvel cartoons. I always liked Captain America but when I tried bringing him up with the other kids, well they just responded negatively. They either thought his costume was stupid (to put it nicely), his shield/powers sucked or (seriously) they thought the character embodied the worst aspects of America. I found it upsetting back in those days, other kids didn't get Captain America.
This movie is high on my MCU ranks, the perfect tone and introduction for the character everyone from my childhood misconceived.
One of the kids that hated Cap when I tried introducing him to the character? Well now he's more than happy to wear matching Captain America shirts with his new born son!
@@HenchmenNo616I imagine it went down on the playground. "Stuff those bludy Yanky, Oi bruv pahs me dat bottelohwaAh Fam Four yah Get shAnked Inet"
25:30 Steve thought that jump was impossible and wasn't even thinking of attempting it, but Bucky refused to leave without him, so Steve had to make that "impossible" jump to save Bucky's life. I always loved the way that demonstrated how powerful the loyalty and friendship between those two is.
I never thought of it that way and now my heart is in pieces
13:27 Her touching his chest was unscripted. The actress did it instinctively and immediately caught herself, but the director loved it and kept it in.
so weird. she's a super hot actress. you'd think she'd be around hot actors all the time
@@Diegesis humans are still humans and most "hot" women don't believe they are in one way or another.
@@Diegesis the sad part is that she got her own series from how well they acted together!
@@craiglortie8483 Sad? Ironic, maybe, but that show was great.
Lol fr
Germany, just like ALL countries, has a wide variety of regional accents. A person from Bavaria, for instance, will sound different to someone from Brandenburg.
This idea of a German accent is so cringy...
There aren't too many Hollywood actors who can pull it off convincingly.
Taika Waititi is one amazing exception, he blew me away in What We Do In The Shadows.
I was looking for this comment. There isn't one German accent, any more than there is one American accent, or one English accent.
The Stan cameo scene is a double cameo: the person Stan is sitting with played Captain America in an early 90s version of the film.
Never noticed before and I have seen TFA at least a dozen times. However, you sir are correct. That is Matt Salinger, son of JD Salinger. After his appearance in the gawd awful 90's Captain America film I thought he had been taken by aliens. He actually looks pretty good. Shame that much like the also unreleased 90's Fantastic Four it was made apparently to retain film rights...certainly did his acting career no favors.
@@witchking8497 It truly was gawd awful. But I can't help but think that if they'd had a budget of more than $156, it might have been reasonably good.
@@PhilBagels but a lot of the gawdawful parts were in areas where budget isnt the main issue...I think of all the terrible things in the movie the worst was the writing. As I understand it in Hollywood writers make their equivalent of chump change. It was so bad at times I think they just filmed the first draft of a script.
@@witchking8497 Yes, but for example, with a bigger budget, they could have hired some more extras, so that World War 2 didn't have to be portrayed as Captain America vs a dozen (Italian) soldiers. Maybe they could have found an actor who could do a German accent to play the Red Skull, instead of making him Italian.
@@PhilBagels no way did they have a dozen extras...Ten bucks says no more than six.
That scream is called the Wilhelm Scream. "The Wilhelm scream is a stock sound effect that has been used in a number of films and TV series, beginning in 1951 with the film Distant Drums. The scream is usually used when someone is shot, falls from a great height or is thrown from an explosion. The sound is named after Private Wilhelm, a character in The Charge at Feather River, a 1953 Western in which the character gets shot in the thigh with an arrow."
Audie Murphy became a national hero during World War II as the most decorated combat soldier of the war. Among his 33 awards was the Medal of Honor, the highest award for bravery that a soldier can receive. In addition, he was also decorated for bravery by the governments of France and Belgium, and was credited with killing over 240 German soldiers and wounding and capturing many more........Why mention this you ask??? He was turned down by two military branches ...He was 5'5" and weighed 112 lbs....About the size of "the little guy" in this movie.....After gaining the required minimum weight the US army took him in.
Jimmy Stewart, Hollywood legend (tho in 1940 just famous) attempted to join in Nov 1940 also failed as underweight/too thin. After the holidays (lol) he had added weight and was enlisted in Feb 1941.
Audie was also under age at first I believe but joined any ways.
I'm new to the channel and I'm already in love with Maple after her LOTR reactions 😍
Hey me too!
you're in good company cause everyone's new to the channel lol. we had 1400 subscribers like 3 months ago
Thats how I found this channel, Maple's LOTR reactions 😂
@@Diegesis Yeah, I've been here 2 and a half weeks I think. During that time I've seen the subscriber numbers going up. Means you're doing something right, if I understand UA-cam correctly.
Well go married her Maple bro that why you are interested with her relationship hahaha 😄
I really love the jumping on the grenade scene. It shows that the serum gave Rogers super-strength, but he was already a hero before it.
"Build a boyfriend...throw him in there!" is maybe the best comment, ever. It will never cease to fantastic.
This should be fun. I just saw an Endgame reaction a little while ago. It’s cool to revisit the early phase MCU films. It’s cool seeing how the template was developed.
I love watching reactors ride the End Game emotional roller-coaster 😂😁😊😩😩😔😊😭😂😭😂😭😂😭😂😭
13:15 "Build a Boyfriend" that has to be the best line yet to this scene
The first season of "Agent Carter" is an excellent 8-episode self-contained adventure well worth watching. If Maple would like to see more of Peggy, you should get her to react to it!
No!
yes I enjoyed it a lot, shame it was cancelled.
I would say Peggy is best in the animated "What If...?" series with her getting injected with the serum and becoming Captain Carter instead of Steve. The episode principle this move with the characters flipped
"pack your inhaler bud" I swear you crack me up!
I love the bittersweet ending of this movie. We want to see him get his dance with Peggy, but we also need to see him become the man-out-of-time in the present day.
He get his dance tho
No spoilers dude
@@cydra_infinity1423 - I respect your comment and agree, but you’re the one confirming spoilers by what you’re saying. The other guy could have just been saying something stupid or cheeky.
(But I don’t think Diagesis is reading these later comments either way, so it should be all good.)
When Peggy said, "You're late!" Steve should've replied with, "A captain is never late nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to!"
"Break the tesseract, or something!"
The tesseract cannot be destroyed, Gimli son of Gloin, by any craft we here possess.
Somewhere in the galaxy,, Eitiri is blushing.
@@jean-paulaudette9246 Wanda raises eyebrow... 10 bucks says I can
nahhh.. lol
Lord of the Rings was written while he was frozen. He'd just be surprised that book Bucky read got a sequel.
Don't know if you caught this but when Zola was charging his machine he stops at 70% because the reaction is becoming unstable and Schmidt becomes impatient and kicks it up to 100%, when Steve is in the machine Stark stops at 70% percent even though everything is working fine because Steve is in pain and the doctor orders the test cancelled until Steve tells him he's ok.
Shows the kind of people the doctor and Schmidt are, one is impulsive and will take unnecessary risks even if it might kill himself and many more, the other is patient enough to wait for the right man, and shut down his greatest achievement because it hurts one person.
"they should've sent him in there with a camera" i love how maple forgot what year was this. 🤣
Cap to me is like the benchmark for all superheroes.
He doesn't need to be anyone's favourite because whoever your favourite is they want to be just like Cap.
Cap's cool and all, but my favorites are Wolverine and Thor, and they both never expressed any inclination to be like Cap. Wolverine respects Cap *a lot,* but he is much less of a boyscout, lives a much darker life and although he often reflects on his brutal actions he also often makes it a point, that he is the most "get it done, whatever it takes"-kind of superhero.
Thor and Cap respect each other as equals in terms of bravery and values and Thor is 100% confident with who he is, he definitely doesn't want to be someone else. Wouldn't change with anyone in the universe.
@@mawangshallhang You are a bad person and i do not like you
Spider-Man better I fear.
No. Spiderman -> Stark.
@@mawangshallhang just curious, what do you find cringey about Cap?
Usually hate reaction videos but Maple actually makes it seem genuine and enjoyable. Looking forward to watching more MCU with her :D

Male loyalty and friendship as exemplified by the relationship of Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes is exactly how male friendship and loyalty is in real life at its best.
I was pretty ignorant of Steve Rogers before this movie. Once I saw it a few years back it made him my favorite Avenger.
you know he's a really good guy but he doesnt have any character growth cause he was just always a good guy. it's kinda anti climactic
@@Diegesis True but I will go with the Russo's on this one; it is fun to watch everyone react to and change around him. Also watching him be tested (because he is) and pass the test is a little uplifting.
@@Diegesis But thats kinda hos thing
his story is engaging tho
just no character development
15:45 This is the Nazis experimenting with supernatural shit to make super tech. In other words, not the '40s as it actually happened. Although some of the things the Nazis had very early stage blueprints for but hadn't built yet when the regime fell were pretty hair raising in real life, from what I understand.
26:15 The actor playing Bucky is Sebastian Stan (the Mad Hatter from Once Upon A Time).
33:23 It's called the Wilhelm Scream. It's a stock sound effect dating back to around the time this movie is set, which is, I think, why it makes an appearance here. George Lucas made it popular with mass audiences by using it in what at that time was the highest grossing movie ever, Star Wars.
Quite a number of things the Nazis had blueprints for...never actually worked. Some required technology that was decades away (ie a practical flying wing). Some 'worked' but the cost and unreliability was such that they very likely would have been better off with a less advanced weapon that worked 99.9% of the time. Great touches by the film makers to use these historical relics to give great flavor to the Nazi/Hydra Super-Science Projects.
"And the Fuhrer digs for trinkets in the desert." This is a reference to the "Indiana Jones" films. Director Joe Johnston worked in FX on that one before becoming a director.
You've heard the work of composer Alan Silvestri in several Robert Zemeckis films, including Back to the Future, Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump (for which he won an Oscar), Cast Away, and Polar Express.
Howard Stark, and Tony, for that matter, are based on real life inventor/pilot Howard Hughes, who was famous for dating many beautiful and famous stars. The senate hearing in Iron Man 2 based on a real incident where Hughes was brought before congress to answer questions about his business practices, but ended up dominating the hearing with his big personality, mocking the senator questioning him, and coming away looking like a hero for "taking on city hall".
The part of the show where Steve "punches" Hitler was a reference to the very first Captain America comic in 1941, which did feature him punching Hitler. Believe it or not, it was somewhat controversial at the time. This was months before Pearl Harbor and a large portion of Americans were very opposed to getting involved in the war in Europe.
I love when she points out the wilhelm scream. Just started watching her after LotR.
Everyone clearly recognizes Hugo Weaving from LotR, but almost no one recognizes Richard Armitage. He played Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit trillogy. He's the Hydra agent who tries to steal the formula and kills Dr. Erskin at the test.
She hasn't seen the Hobbit yet
@@Diegesis It's OK. Most people who have seen it don't recognize him. It'd be hard for two characters to look more different. :)
@@Diegesis Don't waste your time. Then again, I didn't like the LOTR movies either. First read the books fifty years ago.
"If you have something to say, now would be the perfect time to keep it to yourself." Tommy Lee Jones- Captain America: The First Avenger. That line got laughing hard. Jones, he always plays such hard nosed, stiff lipped but sassy AF characters, huh??
He had some really great snarky lines about Steve before the transformation as well.
"Vita Rays." I could REALLY use a "Vita Ray" booth in my garage.
I love how the mix you mentioned between realism and fantasy is even reflected in the color design of the film. Most of the film's in this sort of pseudo-old-technicolor color grade, but with the more fantastical elements and scenes bearing more of that bolder more modern style.
Your reactions are perfect. This is one of the best origin stories ever made and very underrated. The dialogue was so profound. And that end credits scene is among my favorites.
So sad that the guy she finds cute dies in the middle of the movie😭
that jenna marbles 'hell yeah' at the end was choice
" pack your inhaler " . LMAO! I'm dead.
The lab scene, in the comics Project Rebirth; basically use the Super Soldier Serum (the blue liquid in the tubes) stabilized by Vita-Rays to create a person at the physical peak of human potential. Steve Rogers was quite literally the Guinea Pig, once the process was perfected the plan was to run all 8 Million+ members of the US Armed Forces through it. The process worked...the rest of the plan had some faults. Thus 'I was promised an Army, all I got was you.'
Also this as the serum that we saw Blonski , from "Incredible Hulk" , get injected with.
Project Rebirth is also the progenitor to the Weapon X project that enhanced Wolverine, originally called the Weapon Plus Project after the war as it attempted to replicate the success of Captain America.
Another fun thing to note is Weapon Plus was run by the Canadian Government in the comics, which is why so many of their test subjects tend to be Canadian as well (like Wolverine as mentioned before as well as Deadpool)
Hell yeah, you get to watch the Avengers next and you won't have to wait like we all did! Enjoy!
Hugo Weaving played Lord Elrond. but before that he was in The Matrix as Agent Smith.
He'll forever be Agent Smith to me.
yeah but she hasn't seen that yet.

When Maple said she couldn't wait to see Stan Lee, I thought she meant Mr. Tucci.
haha Stan lee Tucci
For me Steggy is the Best MCU couple ❤

The First Avenger is MCU most Underrated movie
Definitely! I think it's still my favorite of all 27 movies they've done so far.
May of 2012 I was stationed in Germany with the Army and had the opportunity to see the Avengers in theaters and I even got the 1st Avengers coin 🙂
it's funny because Zola in the comics actually was in a big robot with his face on the torso screen like George Lopez in Spy Kids 3
It blows my mind that this channel "only" have 26k subs... it's one of the best react channels out there IMO.
thank you so much. youtube is fickle
I have no doubt that it will climb steadily. Most of the current form content is relatively recent, and most of the subscribers are as well. It just takes a little while for new (or newly restructured) channels to gain traction.
Just mentioning that Germany has a ton of different regional dialects. Just because your grandma might have a different german accent, that doesnt mean the scientists is bad or inaccurate.
I know what you mean about "Erskin's" accent, but I think he was going for hint of Yiddish with substantial emersion at MIT or Oxford in advanced studies before returning to Germany in and around WWI. That would be a viable analysis as an actor, but it was a tiny bit off. I honestly thought it was so his comedic lines would have better delivery.
I think they were trying to emulate Albert Einstein
@@Diegesis It's all relative... "Buh dump bump."

I thank all men for making living possible on this earth and thanks for so selflessness that u protect these kind of humans who don't understand the meaning of freedom and dont appreciate you for their freedom, u keep dying for their freedom and these girls keep living in a dream till reality hits them and they starts appreciating men for their freedom cause without them any other men will invade the land and start doing every bad thing possible... @15:42 “This is the forties.” Submarines existed prior to the forties and that one was built by HYDRA.
That is still one of the most heartbreaking endings to any movie, and the main reason why I wish they hadn’t brought Peggy back for Winter Soldier: “It’s just . . . . . . I had a date.”
Not mercenaries, the are Captain America and The Howling Comandos
Also I can say that Ersinn has a pretty accurate accent. Some of my classmates talk exactly like that, even after 5 years studying English. It's true tho that it stops being that extreme after you talked English for a while :D
I’m waiting for CA:TWS personally

Captain America (in the comics) was made in 39 as war propaganda before WW2. After the war, he reminded people of WW2 and they killed him. In the 60s when superhero comics were popular again, they revived him.
I like how he says that red skull is the dude from Lord of the rings and everybody knows that... I guess I'm old cuz that's agent Smith

I've been following your Marvel watches and I feel this may have been your best one! Maybe it's the personal connection. I enjoyed watching this one immensely! You startled me at one point. You said, "There's that scream again!" It's rare that anyone notices it! You can hear that scream in a lot of movies and a few video games. It's been floating around Hollywood since 1951. It's called the Wilhelm Scream and it's something of a tradition among sound designers at this point.
I would love to know why it's called the Wilhelm scream, and its earliest use in film or television.
@@jean-paulaudette9246 The scream dates back to 1951 and a movie called Distant Drums. In 1953, poor Private Wilhelm gave that scream after catching an arrow in the leg in the film in the movie The Charge at Feather River and the Wilhelm Scream got its name. It's been in tons of movies since them. (Hint: Listen carefully to the Stormtroopers when they're shot.)

Captain America is unquestionably the greatest super hero of all time.
His loyalty, pureness and solid moral compass is the embodiment of everything a super hero should aspire to be.
MAPLE IS MY FAVORITE 😍
“Wouldn’t it almost be better to have a soldier who wants to…?” - Yes, Maple, exactly!
Steve's plan was to get caught so that he could get on the inside, be told the enemy's plans, and provide a diversion for the full attacking force, including his team.
29:47 Captain America using the shield both defensively and offensively, hurling it to knock enemies down and stuff, that's been a part of his character since the 1940's. Over the decades that shield has bounced off and knocked down HYDRA thugs, AIM scientists, gods, monsters, super villains and more. You don't mess with around when Captain America throws his mighty shield.
