Silvera carries a message of social criticism regarding things that humans are doing to the planet and themselves and therefore it had to be easier to listen to and more approachable for the message to reach a broader audience.
You prefered them having done this way before, and than get in the intricate stuff, but as you now know, it’s the other way around. They started out with their demo / EP ‘possessed’ under their former name Godzilla, which was basically Morbid Angel but some Gojira flavour, absolutely love that too, than early 2000’s, is where they really created their own sound with crazy stops and tempo changes. And their live performances peaked for me in de 00’s. I highly recommend Clone studio (first song on their very first album) and the live version at Garorock. I’m pretty sure you’ll prefer this as Silvera is actually of the heaviest tracks on Magma (has been written during the passing of the brothers Duplantier). They also mention they stay true to theirself, they make the music for them, not to please their audience. They know their songs became a bit simplified structure wise, but i guess that’s how they were feeling. Personally, their are some great tracks on both Magma and Fortitude, but it’s not my favourite Gojira. Give Clone a shot and see if you dig it, cheers.
One of the most powerful and emotional song on Magma is low land about the passing of their mother during the recording .ther is only a official clip video , no live , for obvious reason , but check it out ,but yeah there is an interview of Joe ' Joe Duplantier explains Gojira's vocal evolution " where basically he said that he wanted to sIng more in cleans and play simpler ...25 years of Growling ..i understand the man ...at some point ..you want to have fun and doing less technical hardcore stuff.
Good morning from New England...I feel Gojira did the same thing with Magma that Metallica did with the Black album..They did become more mainstream but there are some deceptively hard and progressive songs on the album...But a majority of the stuff is more accessible..Now the Red Rocks concert is in my top 3 Gojira shows..You should check out the entire show..Also Gojira always sounds better live and that's a hard thing to pull off..I can't hate on a band for becoming more successful.. They've been around for 25 yrs so they deserve it . Peace ☮️
I stumbled on your vids and instantly subscribed. Been checking out your videos. Good stuff. I have a band you may not know that is right up your alley (I think). Sorry if you’ve already heard of them. SOEN!!! They are heavily influenced by Tool, Opeth, and Pink Floyd but have definitely found they’re perfect blend of all 3 and then some. I would suggest “Opal” for the first track. But watch the official video. This is the band the ex drummer from Opeth started. Martin Lopez. Checkout Opal by Soen. You won’t be disappointed. 🤞🤞🤞🤞
For me this song is like that roll you get in a restaurant before your meal comes out
Gojira live is so much better than studio stuff
