c'mon dude...that's genius
That would never get through today, yet it is hilarious!

Classic Invasion humor
🤣
The writing in these bits is so dense and brilliant. It's so much better than it needs to be.
Packed with so many jokes and old references. Needs a few viewings to catch them all.
This writing is pure GOLD. A shout out to the actor as well. He's SO believable...and awesome!!
It's so dense, every frame has so many old timey salesman jokes in it.
@@jessemast5319 Brian Stack. He's also the writer.
The audience can't keep up
Hannigan probably would have sold more stuff if Conan didn't have such a hot Irish temper.
Maybe he needs to hear the song on that from Artie Kendall.
Baba ba boo
I once heard a nice little ditty about Irish people. Catchy AND informative, for example did you know Irish people have corn for brains and spray whiskey when they sneeze?
"nostrily-sweep!
he's not irish tho
"The court orders me to say it, not repeat it."
One of the best comedic lines ever written.
lol......my favorite is the relaxation pistol
And it got no laughs...
it was not one of the beat comedic lines ever written you bozo brain
"Did you just say it lowers sperm count?"
"The court orders me to say it, not repeat it."
These are great.
My god, Brian Stack is criminally underrated.
yeah conan lost more than just a writer/performer when he quit the show...
@@LickMyMusketBallsYankee yup. just another thing that could have been prevented if california just wasnt the worst place in the country anymore... i blame gavin newsom... lol

@@LickMyMusketBallsYankee Then why doesn’t Colbert use him, his show isn’t funny.
“Comedy, eh? It must be that new kind where the audience laughs on the inside!”
that's just viciously funny
He doesn't miss a beat, and never stumbles on a single word. Amazing
Conan was blessed with that guys talent.
Absolutely incredible talent
10:03 is the closest he came to a stumble. So slight it's almost unnoticeable .
.
Minor stumble at 27:52
Correct. That is not easy.
Conan keeps forgetting who this man is. Sounds like he needs memory rejuvenater from MemoryCo

Its Lobotorific!
Ah, too sentimental, eh??
"This job has killed the part of my brain that lives in the present" 🤣
"My late salesman father. Killed in his sleep by a shifty creole prostitute..." may be my favorite line of the whole video. Lol.
Brian Stack had to be the best writer AND actor ever on the show. His delivery is unreal
And he played probably the most bizarre character that was ever on the show: The Interrupter! And he was also responsible for “Frankenstein Wastes a Minute of Our Time,” a bit that shouldn’t have worked but always did.
His old timey intros are the best part of all of this. Conan must've been dying on the inside, this is 100% his sense of humor.
Brian Stack currently works for Colberts Late Show, and he has been the head writer there for a long time.
@@jmp01a24But has he done anything as classic as this on Colbert? Does be have new characters?
@@wellesradio He has appeared on Colbert lately. In certain funny situations.
Conan has mentioned before that he loves this kind of early 20th century scammer, kind of similar to the monorail selling guy in the Simpsons.
Makes sense, he wrote that episode. I'm sure y'all already knew that.
@@cleverusername9369 did he write any other episodes
@@wuffalo he wrote four in total, i believe. Homer Goes to College, Marge vs. The Monorail, New Kid on the Block, and Treehouse of Horror IV. some of the best, imo.
He said he grew up on old movies like Jimmy Cagney stuff.
He loves this kind of fast talking type character.
@@nicholasmoose6574 yeah! I heard he said that while talking to Michael Chriton, amazing episode of the podcast!

"Let me guess: you've been burned by shoe trees in the past.....who hasn't?"

He's fantastic👍
AGREED
I wondered who this guy was. See him(and especially hear him) all the time on Colbert.
@@Taijifufu you know sometimes, just sometimes folks i like to slap a wallabee to a high jump bar, huff some orange surveyors paint and stack frozen squirrel carcasses and set them with mortar mixed with kitty litter and flop sweat to create the back alley olympic medal stand that i like to call "Meanwhile"...

This is solid proof that you can use the same sketch over and over and it never gets boring. Lol.
There is also a supercut on youtube of the Drunk Uncle segment from SNL. Same sketch every time and kills every time.

“Why does my illiterate 400 lb wife get conjugal visits with death row inmates? Sometimes it’s best to not ask”
"What's the synonym for unbeatable? Shiny!"
Incredible.
"i heard more laughs during the cuban missle crisis" is a very underrated line, i love the audience reaction
This man deserved an Emmy for this
Just thinking that. Brian Stack should've won some sorta comedy award for this character.
Ive never seen so many brilliant one liners in one place.
yup
Who are the hell are you?
"Comedy eh? It must be that new kind where the audience laughs on the inside" - Savage
The fact that these all use the same basic script makes them progressively funnier as you watch them all back to back. Big ups to whoever put these together.
Back to back, like in a Swedish testicular pleasure bath
I swear, every single one of his lines is so funny I would like to learn it by heart and use it everyday, and at the same time so quick you could easily miss it (and the audience does, half the time). What a GREAT late night sketch
And btw thanks so much for the reupload, GForce
I use “Sweet Cold War tension!” a lot in everyday life
This kind of depresses me because my brain isn't quick enough to fire stuff off like this. You can tell Brian has a sky high IQ by watching this. I haven't checked but I bet money he's Ivy League
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 He definitely is smart. People would probably stutter just within the first few sentences. He has like a 99% accuracy rate, of all the sketches only 2 small little hiccups. You need decent brainpower to remember and recite while playing a character like this.
I wonder if the audience has been instructed not to laugh because it would completely ruin the fast pacing of these jokes
Conan: Hey, you're a racist
Salesman: Glad that's out of the way
👏👏😂😂😂
Brian Stack is such a gem.
Have you seen him do Brent Musberger? So good.
25:35 “It’s Oppenheimerrific!” is a magical phrase
Best actor, best script..... DAMN!!!!
yeah...one of the best..i would say it's one of the top ten best sketches Conan has ever done
Fair play to the writers for so many quality jokes in a short space of time, and Brian Stack for not missing a single beat!
Late Night with Conan really was a gem of a show. So off the wall and hilarious.
There is no other show on TV that would ever put a sketch like this on air, and not just once, but make it a recurring bit over and over. It's that completely unique comic sensibility that make Conan such a legend.
The only other host who’s gotten close to Conan’s quality is Craig Ferguson. He had that same relaxed confidence and unserious tone that permeates all Late Night Conan.
I love the idea that Hannigan is a total lunatic, shunned by society, but he still gets one over on Conan.
It's amazing this guy managed to memorize these scripts and rattle through them without tripping over himself.
He reads some of it off the teleprompter/cue-cards. But, I agree, it’s a master class of live comedy performing.
@@assmane999 He's a WRITER that worked on Conan's show, you silly gibbons.
He doesn't need to remember sh*t. He writes that sort of stuff for a living.
Just because you wrote it doesn't mean you've memorized it.@@TatankaTaylor
Brian did VO work for an old client of mine. He was so talented, witty, and easy to work with. He was also a copywriter for a while in the 90s in Chicago. Such a mensch.
"Achoo! Sorry, I'm allergic to filthy liars."
‘You’re full of tension, Hitchcock.’ Brilliant, and went right over the audience’s heads.
‘Why did my prostitute mother trade me to circus freaks for an old Newsweek magazine? Some stones are best left unturned’ freakin brilliant
He delivers jokes like poetry. It’s amazing
It's funny because Brian Stack also did a recurring bit as the singing Crooner ghost and it was basically the same scenario where Conan is shocked by his sudden appearance, Stack persistently offers something, and Conan is disgusted by it. Instead of selling crappy things, the ghost kept singing songs with offensive lyrics. 😂
See my other video compilation of the crooner ghost 👻
So good
"Ah, so you're a man who values his genitals!"
This has got to be one of my all-time favorite characters
Conan isn't only amazing writer and host in his own right, but he sure gathered an amazing team around him, too!
god, i would pay top dollar for a novelized version of this character's biography. there's just so much i need to know about his life.
I like how you think
It’s like when his father paid a man to run him over with a golf cart. Best not to ask questions.
The delivery is perfect!
Despite all the great jokes in here, for some reason the thing that cracks me up the most is when he describes joke companies like clothing companies ("maybe you'd prefer some lowbrow fare from our pedestrian Fairmount line!").
hilarious....way too in-depth....
For 20 years, I've been doing that bit where I read a card or paper and slap it away like Hannigan and literally zero people know the reference.
Cash or layaway?
congratulations
Sounds fun to be around....
@@Tooch24 Only if someone is a big wet blanket who doesn't appreciate a good bit
I love it.
"SketchCo?"
- The future head of ConaCo
I love how it’s the same bit with the same beats over and over and over again with slightly different wording, even with Conan having the same reaction of not knowing at first if the guy is a traveling salesman. I can’t think of any other bits in which Conan doesn’t have previous knowledge of the recurring character from previous bits. It’s like a parallel universe each time!
im thinking more Brian Stack bits like The Interrupter and the Crooner Ghost 😂
Totally different “wording” every time, 100%
"I prefer to think of myself as a wandering nuisance!"
"Comedy, eh? I heard more laughs during the Cuban Missile Crisis"
“Der Bingle sure showed some acting chops in that timeless weeper” *sly smile*
Had me in stitches.
Conan has a genius writing staff
This is one of the best recurring sketches ever.
The writing is so dense and so good, it's almost too much. Perfect for comedy.
Brian Stack is so good.
Gotta respect how the different "lines" of jokes come on different colored 3x5 cards.
Cash or credit???
even Letterman never got this funny Conan is king... to me at least
20:36 “Boy, that Fantastic Four movie sure is highly anticipated! That's a good way to describe modern internet humour.
I miss Conan's old audiences as much as I miss the bits. His writers said the best ones were during the summer when all the college students came to see the show.
This guy's bits are shiny! Conan and his colleagues bring me such joy and laughter.
My god THAT TALENT!
yeah.....it's scary
Swear to God, Have watched this on and off for 2 week,s, my rib,s hurt from laughing. Thank you Brian Stack!😂
Conan was right: The line about Hannigan getting a “fatherly punch in the throat” is super-depressing and a great example of the wild darkness crammed into these skits. 😂
Conan was always the best source of wacky, old-timey characters. The timing, delivery? Golden.
9:50 - 10:00 -- "Ah-choo. I'm sorry; I'm allergic to filthy liars!"
Sometime before I die, I must use that sentence in real life.
I think we all should.
If you just wanted to write it a as comment, you could use it multiple times on Twitter every day.
I really appreciate Max Weinberg playing "Pusherman" by Curtis Mayfield at the end of most of these bits.

It's two decades later and his delivery is still smooth and its pattern appeals to the aspergic nerd in me.
In the most recent podcast episode, with Hannah Einbinder, Conan talked about how much he loves the 1930s way of talking. But we knew that already. :)
.... "that Kim Novak sure gave me vertigo". 😂 These 50's references are priceless, todays kids would not know half of what he refers to.
Quality writing from Harvard Lampoon's best since 1970.
"Comedy eh? Must be that new type of comedy where the audience laughs on the inside". rofl, brilliant.
This was the best late night comedy show, ever. I still laugh at these skits 20-25 years later. It gave me a reason to stay up late…
These old Conan clips are like a masterclass in sketch comedy.
This guy is just too smart and fast for the audience.
I really liked him as a singing ghost.
Ba ba ba boom, heyyy Conan
I have never laughed this much to any sketch 😂😂😂😂
Chemistry & Timing between these legends cannot be matched by anyone.
I love watching these knowing Conan is loving every minute of it. This is pure Conan comedy.

Haha seems like he slowed down on the 2nd one, I bet he was told to.
I don't know why but that phrase, "Baboon Adrenaline" is ridiculously funny.
SO much gold here, I have to remember these.
That poor man's Monroe sure used a rich man's pepper spray! 😂😂
Yes! Thats the line right there.
Amazing acting. Conan and his crew really knew how to do quality comedy. I remember staying up late as a teen just to watch Conan on NBC. Good memories. Times seemed simpler back then
Thank you so much for this video! i have watched it more than 10 times and it is still funny than most SNL skits!

Okay, some compilations are just unbelievable. To have recorded every instance of this character that until this day I had never seen (and I've watched a good amount of Conan), you must be the biggest Conan fan on the planet. Or the world's biggest Hannigan fan.
Seeing these old vids reminds you how good tv used to be, and how much it sucks now. No exaggeration.
Thank you for posting this.
